three-year-old boy. authorities say the child was shot in the head and is in critical condition. police are releasing little information but it happened on a basketball court and is gang-related. witnesses described random gunfire that hit innocent bystanders. two teens and ten adults were shot three weeks after chicago saw a rash of labor day weekend violence that left eight people dead. >> the mass shooting at the washington navy yard is casting new light on government background checks on employees with security clearances. the government contractor that conducted the background check on aaron alexis were vetted edward snowden and an associated press review of the checks finds the system overwhelmed by five million americans who have security clearances. civilian employees and military members are back at work at navy yard since the shooting that left 12 co-workers dead. >> double shooting in san

francisco has left a man dead and a woman wounded. shots were fired near arkansas near 23rd before 8:00. both victims were found inside a car. the man died at the hospital. the woman is expected to survive. additional police were brought in after large crowds gathered at the scene. >> this morning, the oakland police department is getting a much needed boost in personnel. 36 new officers will graduate from the academy today. this is video of a class that graduated early this year. officials say more than half of the graduates are minorities and a quarter are women. two more academies will start later this year and the city will hire ten other police officers thanks to $4.5 million grant from the justice department. oakland has one of the lowest staffed police ds in the country. >> on capitol hill a showdown over a shutdown. the government could close its doors in ten days. house republicans are set to vote on a measure today that will prevent a shutdown but it

we have that story. >> if someone lies to you and you take your money that is a crime. deputy district attorney is warning of online real estate rental listingses that are fake, a scam she says has been on the upstick in santa clara county the past year. she is working a case involving this woman from san jose. the woman was renting this home and posted phony rental listings online. >> she would put an ad on craigslist, make it sound nice, negotiate a deal, take the money and the person never got to move in. >> she believes the woman may have done this several times and is hoping other victims will come forward. >> linda works for golden gate properties and the company has this santa clara listing for $3,200. someone used their information and tried to rent it for $1,200. >> it is easy to copy or to get

construction there with four left lanes closed until 5:00. the traffic through walnut creek on 680, very light at the moment and no problems at all. we do have a tragic story in the wake of colorado flooding, a 79-year-old woman gave her life to save a neighbor. this photo is the only item that has been recovered from her home. she and her neighbor, joyce, were trying to get to higher ground and she fell. joyce tried to pull her out but couldn't. she told her neighbor "don't worry about me, save yourself." she was then swept away while joyce survived. there are seven confirmed deaths this colorado and 2,000 homes have been destroyed and 200 miles of roads are no longer usable. dozens more bay area red cross volunteers are headed to colorado to help flooding victims. >> more rain pounding mexico as
