that was the man police looking for after the murder of the 20-year-old justin valdez, shot and killed monday night just before 10:00 as he stepped off an eastbound m train between randall and bright. police say they did not have a motive and believe the two men did not know each other. vald vez yez was living with his uncle here in san francisco. he had not declared a major at sf state. he was from garden grove in southern california where he was described as a passionate and persistent student and was the president of the environmental club. in san francisco, abc 7 news. >> thank you. another tragedy involving a young person. a family is angry and demanding punishment for the man that killed their daughter. christina chesterman was a student at chico state dying after a drunk driver plowed

into her as she cycled home from the library. leanne? >> it is sad, many friends called her teena. she wanted to be a nurse her dream to work for doctors without frontiers an organization helping people in poor war-torn countries everyone we spoke to here said she was an exceptional person. friends and neighbors left pictures and posters outside of her livermore home. a dozen -- cousin told us the community lost a great human being. >> we're all you know, we're all holding together to, being together and, but we're, you know, missing our christina. we always will. >> police say she was returning home after studying at the library at chico state. she was hit by a very intoxicated 19-year-old his name riley hoover. her friend rachel said she and christina had been studying

together for hours. >> i decided to stay longer. and she wanted to go home. >> her parents issued this statement through the hospital. it's incomprehensible the reckless act of a falling down drunk could cut short of live of a beautiful, talented person who had so much to contribute to our world. she exelled in her medical occupation classes. >> kids just need to stop getting behind the wheel and drinking and texting and you know realize how precious live is. because... you know, i feel blessed it wasn't my daughter but, i feel so much sadness because waits their autos the family had gone through another tragedy in february. her brother was badly beaten at chico while he was visiting her. about a month ago christine j ya skb her mother were interviewed after the man was

convicted. the family is now asking that the man police say killed their daughter receive the most severe sentence. in livermore, abc 7 news. >> we're learning new details about one of the robbers police say held up a group of casual carpoolers riding for rides in the rock ridge neighborhood monday morning. one suspect is a 17-year-old boy. a football standout in oakland. official wtz alameda county court system confirmed the teenager is being charged as an adult for the crime. he and other suspect a 22-year-old were charged today with ten counts of armed robbery. >> well, fbi has released surveillance video of the man gunned down 12 people in a washington, d.c. navy yard. the pictures show him entering then stalking the hole haulways looking for victims. this is more than a week ago, september 17th. identification badge clipped to the belt and visible.

ooxz a teacher scheduled to appear in court on charges of having swechl a 17-year-old student. the 32-year-old arrested yesterday. matt keller has more. >> classes didn't start until 10:00 this morning here at santa clara high school. a meeting aloud faculty to get on the same page after one of their own was arrested on counts of unlawful sex with a miner. >> we agree and think that the safety of our children has to be paramount so it's important and appropriate that we separate from the students at this time. >> the 32-year-old math teacher placed on leave of absence. he is known as mr. cortez on campus. principal shell by says they received a tip on monday and immediately contacted police. cortez wasn't allowed to teach

on tuesday, and was arrested later that afternoon. >> it's a tragic he venlt. it's a teacher who has been very popular several years both with staff and students this, will be very hard on students and staff. >> mr. cortez was arrested and she told me mommy i didn't believe it. he was a nice guy. >> the crisis management team is on campus and counselors will be in classes. parents sent an e mail and superintendent informing them about arrests. >> there hasn't been many problems at the school. you know? my daughter likes it. and everything seems, to run smoothly. i mean, i feel she's safe. >> i have scared feelings of leaving my daughter going to school but they have to go to school. you know? it's just shocking and sad. >> one student saying she thought mr. cortez was innocent he will get his day in court and scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow. in santa clara, abc 7 news.

federal government to implement a law requiring new cars be equipped with rear-view camera autos this is supposed to happen a couple years ago. >> we thought this battle was fought and won, then nothing happened. congress passed a law in 2008 that is when our president bush tin signed it into law requiring rear view cameras on new vehicles. it didn't require cameras but a lot more vision which would mean cameras would have to be installed. supporters say the law would save 100 lives per year, preventing 7,000 injuries but adding 58 to $203 to the price of a car. auto makers say consumers should be given a choice. under the law regulators had until just 2011 to implement the rule of change consumers union and kids and cars are filing awe lawsuit to force the government to implement that law within 90 days.
