hey storage yard near winters 20 miles from vacaville. people saw the fire all the way from fairfield and it burned for several hours. we will bring you updates here on abc7 news. the father of the man accused of stabbing a dodgers man to death is speaking out and claiming his son was just trying to defend himself. abc7 news reporter matt keller is at the at&t park. >> the father is speaking out saying his son was defending himself when he stabbed a dodgers fan a few blocks away at at&t park. police say they arrested 21-year-old michael montgomery for homicide in the stabbing death of 24-year-old jonathan denver wednesday night. the suspect's dad told the newspaper his son and their

friends were hit without warning after words were exchanged of the giants and dodgers rivalry and says the son was hit by a chair in the head and defended himself. investigators say denver was with family and friends when they left in the 8th inning. san francisco police say montgomery left a bar. the groups were going back-and-forth about the rivalry. >> an initial fight and no one was seriously injured and that fight stopped and for whatever reason one or more of the parties would not let it go and there was a second altercation and the stabbing occurred. >> detectives are looking through video from cameras. police have another person in custody and are looking for two more suspects. security was heavy last night against the giants and the giants play the padres next

tonight and no word on extra security. >> before the start of the game the giants held a moment of silence in honor of jonathan denver. >> we extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to jonathan's family during this difficult time. >> the giants issued a statement saying we were deeply saddened to learn last night's horrific incident that occurred several blocks from the ballpark. our thoughts and prayers are with his family during the difficult time. the dodgers released a statement saying this is no rational reason for this. the pain it has cost families and friends is unimaginable. words are not enough to describe our sadness. >> jonathan went to school in fort bragg and still lived in fort bragg. this is a picture provided to us by family and friends showing denver at the game with his father and brother. denver had two recent brushes

yesterday. their dogs attacked a 10-year old hunter kilbourn in antioch leaving him seriously injured. a lawyer for the dog owners argued only one dog attacked hunter but animal services say both dogs were involved and the owners have another opportunity to appeal. hunter's parents are filing a lawsuit to recoup $300,000 in medical bills. a former south bay elementary schoolteacher was convicted last month on molesting several young students. the 36-year-old seen in court here faces a sentence of 75 years to life in prison and a jury found him guilty of lewd acts on five second grade girls in class at elementary school. he blindfolded students and told them they were part of a lesson involving sensory deprivation and helen keller. in contra costa county former richmond high school and

football and basketball coach will be in court. in july he pleaded not guilty to molesting three girls. he faces 39 felony challenges including rape and assault on a child under 14 as well as those other girls in his class for three decades. >> strike dead line looms for bart talks and negotiations are set to continue every day physical october 10th. a 60-day cooling-off period ends that day. there was an update on where the talks stand. transportation officials released a 21 million strike plan that includes free charter buses and extra car pool lanes on freeways and some train service run by bart managers. >> if you feel squeezy after using an apple device you are not alone. we report that some people say the animation that pops up when you go from the home page to an app makes them nauseous.

and dozens remain missing after an apartment building collapsed in india. workers lifted parts of the five story building searching for survivors and they discovered 16 people alive beneath tons of rubble. back in may, ten people died in another building collapse in mumbai. builders cut corners to keep up with the massive demand for housing in the fast-growing cities. >> a new voter initiative to legalize marijuana is cleared for signatures by california secretary of state. supporters have until february to collect 500,000 signatures to place it on the november 2014 ballot. it would instruct the state legislature to pass laws licensing and taxing commercial sales of marijuana. a poll by the public policy institute of california shows 60 percent of likely voters support legalizing pot. voters approved using it for medical purposes in 1996. >> the same poll show as slim majority of likely california

we see more widespread 40's in the not bay and east bay valleys and along the coast while everyone else is in the low-to-mid 50's. high pressure is get closer to us and low is pulling away. the fastest winds are over novato and utah today and this high holds hire for today and tomorrow and it will keep the next cold front at bay. because of that, we are going to have a continuation of the high fire danger through 3:00 but when we get beyond that, sunday the rain starts to come down from the north bay into monday morning and by monday afternoon, it is gone. it just brings us cooler weather. in the seven-day forecast, we will be about 5- to 10-degrees cooler by monday and then we will reverse that with sunshine and warmer weather tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. have a great day. >> we have a report of an early accident this morning as we take you right over to 280 in the nobody direction.

incident. >> there are reports that two pilots on a british passenger plane both fell asleep while the aircraft was on auto pilot. the pilots were severely fatigued so they agreed to take turns napping but they both nodded off at the same time. one of the pilots self reported the incident to the british authorities and blames new rules allowing airlines to impose longer shifts over peak holiday periods. >> doctors put out a wanting about a popular exercise program. how it can literally make your muscles explode. >> pushing aside the fries, a move mcdonald's is making to make the value meals a little

raiders with hundreds of kids showing up at his vacation home in new york over labor day weekend after the party was promoted on twitter. there were party pictures of teens online and police are using the videos to identify suspects and they expect to make more arrests. >> facebook stock is opening above the $50 threshold for the first time since it went public last year to such a rocky start. shares of the social network company closed at $50.39 a share yesterday and the stock is up 88 percent this year. that is a stunning reversal from the plunging of the shares 50 percent in months. they posted strong earnings in the second quarter of the year largely thanks to growth in mobile apps. >> employers will look for fill 1,300 positions in livermore today in the gym of a college.

>> abc7 news starts now with breaking news. >> the breaking news is if san francisco. it is 5:00 a.m. >> in the sunset district a house fire turned fatal claiming two lives, one a toddler. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at 18th avenue. >> 2 1/2-year-old child and the child's father died in the fire. four people were here at the home on 18th when the fire broke ought at 1:30. the father-in-law is in very critical condition and firefighters say the mother escaped okay. they don't know how she managed to get out and they have not been able to talk to her. firefighters say it started in the basement and are trying to figure out why it turned so deadly. >> the house was constructed
