a father and his 1-year-old daughter guyed this morning. we've learned the grandfather passed away as well. >> it happened in the sunset district. the little girl sleeping on the top floor of the home. her father asleep in the basement. the child's grandfather upstairs with her. we're told the mother was awake and managed to get out of the home. >> looks like they were doing all of the right things. house was not cluttered. working smoke detectors very, very tragic this morning. >> the victims have been identified as a 1-year-old and her father. the grandfather's name has not been release ootd man accused of shooting and killing a san francisco state student appeared in court for the first time today. the 30-year-old was charged with the murder of a 20-year-old justin valdez. the district attorney says he was hunting for a victim and shot valdez in the back as he was getting off a muni street

car monday. police say they found assault rifles, mifs and other survivalist gear in the search of his home. >> the father of a young man accused of fatally stabbing a dodgers fan says his son acted in self-defense. >> the 21-year-old michael montgomery charged with killing the 24-year-old. the suspect's father says the victim, denver hit his son over the head with a chair. detectives are looking through video from cameras to determine what happened and police are still searching for several more suspects. >> they question then released one person today. in the meantime officers are still beefing up security at the ballpark. jonathan denver's family releasing a statement it pains us john was taken at such as early age. we feel the society el vals seem to have deteriorated. there is a loves respect for human life, family values, and benefit of differing opinions.

crews from vacaville all fighting these flames. officials tell abc 7 news they're going to let the fire burn out that, it will be another day or two. no word on what sparked it. losses estimated at $6 million so far. >> smoke from the fire making its way to the east bay. you can see in this shot from our camera looking forth east towards contra costa county, skies have been hazier than normally expected. spencer christian here now with conditions and a look at the weekend forecast. >> based on current conditions, wind conditions air quality my may be improving. we've got sunny skies across the bay area now. let's travel down to the area where fire is burning. and winds are variable. now, northeast out of the west at sfo and at hayward, so with

winds flowing in variable direction that's means a small fire will not be carried throughout the same community. so we don't have one direction it will be sustained in terms of wind flow. smoke levels varied. this morning we can see smoke levels rising up to a peak of 69 per cubic inch but looking at the lexes going down sharply by 11:00 a.m. then, by noon getting reports on the smoke levels so air quality appears to be improving. looking down on to the bay, under sunny skies right now, we have a first forecast it will be clear, mild this evening with temperatures from low 60s to low 70s then, cool conditions in the morning, sunny skies and tomorrow afternoon, mild to warm with high temperatures ranging from mid to upper 60s at the coast.

fleece looking for a hit and run driver following a fatal accident this morning. it happened around 5:45. the death is baffling investigators and neighbors. abc 7 news has the story from the peninsula. >> a lone shoe sitting on middlefield road is a key piece of nefdz what appears to be a fatal hit and run this, is why wr investigators believe the man was hit by a vehicle between 2:00 and 3:00 this morning but police didn't know about it until officers received a call at 5:46 a.m. leading them to the body about 250 yards way on glennwood avenue. >> we're trying to piece together evidence to figure out how the body got from that

that accident. the coroner just identified him as a student in lincoln high school. >> six people sent to the hospital as a result of this. this accident happened on goff and pine streets. >> abc 7 news joins us live with this developing news. lillian? >> cheryl and dan this, is where it happened. at one of the incline sessions of pine street. police say a woman driving recklessly caused the collision. >> she got out and grabbed her head like she was in shock. daysed. >> tonya smith says she saw a woman get out of the vehicle moments after the collision. police say it was her suv that rear ended a minivan and left both vengs in piece autos and it got stopped like that. i watched it like that. >> the sfir department says it happened just before 7:00 a.m. saying an older woman was driving recklessly on pine street rub running red lights at 80 miles per hour before
