possibility of some rain for the last day of september, first day of object. we will detail that for you coming up. >> thank you, lisa. developing news. suspect in the fatal stabbing of a dodgers fan is out of jail in morning. 21-year-old michael montgomery had been in jail since thursday, the day after police say he stabbed and killed 24-year-old dodgers fan johnathan denver after a game outside of at&t park. denver and his friends got into a rivalry feud and his friends outside of the bar. montgomery's parents claim his friend acted with self-defense after being hit with a chair. a man in the jail cell with montgomery told him he was outnumbered. yesterday district attorney george gascon said they didn't have enough evidence to prove

murder beyond a reasonable doubt. he said it is vital for our office to have independent corroboration of the incident to charge in this case. stay with abc7 news forting coverage of the developing story. we will have the latest online and you can get breaking news anytime by following us on twitter at abc7 news bay area. this morning a kron4 crews crew is okay after an attempted robbery led to a shooting last night. it happened at third street in the bayview district in san francisco. hears a look at the news van as police looked for evidence inside. police tell us two armed men demanded the reporters equipment. the reporter gave it to the men and then took cover. a security guard working with the reporter fired shots at the would-be robbers. one of them was hit. they took off in a car. now a short time later police say a man walked into san francisco general hospital with a gunshot wound. police taped off his vehicle as evidence but officers will not

confirm the incidents are related. a horrific crash in san francisco has claimed the life of a high school student. the 16-year-old kevin sand was on his way to lincoln school with his mom and sister when a speeding driver slammed into his van, killing him yesterday morning. we have the moran on how fellow students are trying to copy. >> this was a morning crash that left a scene of crumpled cars and killed 16-year-old kevin sand. he was the passenger in a minivan hit by a speeding mercedes. word quickly spread that one of their students was in that crash. >> a junior or seenor that passed away. i didn't know who he was. there was a guy that was in my class that was missing. it was kevin sandoval. >> we sat next to each other in home last the last few years. we would talk a lot, help each other with homework and play games today. >> fellow students described kevin as an avid bicyclist and active member of the drum core.

three other victims were also sent to the hospital. silver mercedes-benz came careening down causing the crash. >> i saw the car going fast. it was sitting near the van. >> it was sitting there. >> it got hit and flip over. >> the driver was not seriously injured in the mercedes. mercedes may have been speeding about 80 miles an hour. officers spotted the speeding s.u.v., but had, time to react. >> the car was going so fast they didn't have time to activate their or siren to get even within a block of it before the crash occurred. police say the driver will likely be charged. abc7 news. i was at that scene yesterday, it was horrific. there was air quality problems in some parts of the bay area. a fire broke out just before midnight yesterday at a business named hay kingdom about 20 miles from vacaville. there is still heavy smoke this morning and officials say the fire could take another day or

so to burnitz self out. nick smith has the latest. this was the scene of a hay fire as it burned at its peak. firefighters from winters and five other surrounding agencies work to go get ahead of a blaze that continued to spread to barns, expensive agriculture equipment and light up the night cy as more than 200 tons of hay were consumed in the fast-burning inferno, assisted by the wind. >> certainly you smoke impacted the freeway last night. we had to slow traffic and at times close portions of the highway. >> smoke also had an affect on air quality in winters and beyond. with the help of the win the smoke was pushed down to pleasanton, livermore, and at one point could be smelled in parts of santa clara county but shifted before health officials felt the need to issue an alert. now the slow, long process as firefighters wait for the fire to burn itself out. >> we think we lost 20,000 pounds of hay and hay sales were going for 200 could

$250 a ton. >> they are switching up their strategy, choose to go protect the buildings that are not burns and prevent the spread of the fire. between the structure, the product and the equipment, the losses at this time are believed to be well above $6 million. in yellow county, nick smith, abc7 news. howe, that's expensive fuel. the man accused of killing a college student in san francisco may have also been out hunting for a victim. the man is facing several charges, including murder, in the detect of 20-year-old justin valdez. valdez was shot in the back monday while getting off a muni light rail train. district attorney says he also faces other charges for earlier in the day. >> given from the earlier assault, it looks like he was out there looking to kill someone. it seems like in the first instant he didn't quite get the courage to pull the trigger, and then in the second instance he

obviously did. police say he also flashed a handgun on the muni train several times but no one noticed. police are considering reopening the case after missing girl. a case that was closed more than four years ago. seven-year-old amber wards was last seen in 1988. the fbi and the police closed the case in 2009, two years after serial killer curtis deb anderson confessed to kidnapping and murdering her. he is now dead. but his family was skeptical of the confession because there was never any physical evidence. they have started an online pegs to get the police to reopen the case. police chief said he will talk to the fbi on tuesday to see why it was closed and then he will reopen it if he is not convince it had should have been closed. it's been 20 years since another high profiling

kidnapping case. 12-year-old poly klaas was be a slugged. her kidnapper and murder is now on death row. poly's father said he's never forgotten or forgiven the man who took his daughter's life. >> i will witness that execution with great joy, yes. i will drink champagne after he is snuffed. >> after poly's death, marc klaas started the kids foundation that works to prevent crimes against children. a man died. he started punching and kicking a woman thursday night. a parking control officer saw it happening and tackled the man. the man suffered an injury and was taken to the hospital and he died thursday night at 10:15. the transportation agency is waiting for a police report before commenting on the incident.

bart and their two largest unions have negotiations scheduled for this morning at to 10:30. the two sides remain $112 million apart. transportation officials are already planning ahead in case there is a strike. they released a $21 million strike plan this week. it includes free charter buses, extra carpool lanes and limited transbay services run by bart managers. there are negotiating sessions scheduled almost every day through the end of the cooling-off period. dates with the hash marks are dates bart plans to meet with one of the two unions. october 10th is the last day talks are scheduled. 5:09 on your saturday morning. lisa is here with our forecast. yesterday was gorgeous. >> i know. >> hot, hot. >> final days of september really going to bring a mixed bag because today, yes, we will be warmer. right now from our sutro camera it's 57 san francisco. going for a high of 72.

drizzle as soon as tomorrow from the san mateo county khost to the sonoma coast and then light rain, perhaps showers headed our way on monday. so we are looking anywhere from a tenth to quarter inch. you can see why. this is a huge system. remnants an old typhoon that is bringing a strong system into the pacific northwest, anywhere from two to four inches of rain for much of washington. but as it slides to the south, testimony weaken and the dynamics around here in the bay area. but you will notice as we go through the next day or so, things begin to change. plenty of sunshine 11:00 today. then by tonight increasing clouds for your sunday. then here comes the rain on monday. it is mainly north of the golden gate but some of it could slip over into the east bay. could see a renne grade shower as far south as monterey. it will be cooler the second half of the weekend. and the light sprinkle activity perhaps tomorrow night with perhaps a few showers following on monday.

today the smithsonian magazine is sponsoring museum day live. thousands of museums will be offering free admission and that includes the deyoung in san francisco and the san mateo museum of art. one catch, it's free if you already ordered your tickets ahead of time at the smith zonian website. tomorrow is national coffee day. you can get free coffee at krispy kreme, starbucks and pete's stores. one man found a new way to cross the bay but it requires skill, time and a lot of guts. sky cam caught him biking across the bay. he founded the bay bicycle project. since it will be 2015 before the bike lane is created. he created his own bike lane in the bay. he mounted a bike on top of pontoons and rode from oakland to san francisco. took him just under an hour and we caught up with him when he reached the show. >> it can be utilitarian. it's not like having a boat in

the water all the time and it can travel with you because the ride doesn't need to end at the water's edge. you can keep on riding. >> he plans to bring his concept to the east coast where he wants to battle across the hudson from new jersey to manhattan. the san francisco zoo is putting bugs under the microscope. a special exhibit all about the anatomy of insects opened to the public yesterday. it features larger than life models of all sorts of bugs that you would be able to recognize only if you saw them under a powerful microscope. butterflies with five foot wing spans and four foot beetles are part of the collection called big bugs outside the bugs. >> it's a marriage of science and art and through that marriage we hope we will capture the imaginationfs our visitors. >> the exhibit is open through january of next year. visitors are invited to feel their way through the collection at its touch zones where you can actually handle some of the inspect models. all right.

>> welcome back, everyone. coming up on 5:30 and we are starting this half-hour with a look at the weather and meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning. it's a chilly start in parts of the bay. a lot cooler than yesterday. half moon bay is two degrees cooler and with the 41 degrees it's pretty cool along the coast. numbers in oakland, san francisco, in the upper 50s. but in the north bay we are cool in the 40s. we are talking anywhere from about twelve degrees cooler in napa and fairfield. elsewhere we are warmer, san carlos and hayward. the forecast throughout the rest of the day features a lot of sunshine t should be a beautiful, warm afternoon. around the bay we are talking mid-70s. but we are looking at a few clouds entering the shoreline for the coast late in the day. so mid-and upper 60s. sunny to start. inland low to mid-80s. the warmest day of the weekend is today. tomorrow we have increasing clouds and even rain to talk about in the next 48 hours. katie. >> thank you.

obamacare has survived a vote in the senate that keeps the government running throughout mid-november. the senate amended the bill that the house passed last week and put funding for obamacare back in. house leaders say they will not accept the bill the senate has sent to them. now it's up to house speaker john bainer to come up with a plan to avoid the government shut down by tuesday. meanwhile president obama is asking americans to spread the word about new health insurance marketplaces. in his weekly internet and radio address, president obama said starting tuesday americans can go online and use the health insurance marketplace in their state to shop for coverage plans. >> this is a website where you can compare insurance plans side by side, the same way you would shop for a tv or plane ticket. you will see new choices and new competition. many of you will see cheaper prices and many of you will be eligible for tax credits that bring down your costs even more. nearly six in ten uninsured

marathon, until they reach the end. they will make the return trek tomorrow raising millions of dollars for breast cancer research. berkeley high school students are being told it stay away from the school's swimming pool. this after students reported strange side effects after being in the water. tests show a chemical imbalance in the water from a high ph level and ten times the acceptable amount of chlorine mixture. parents said water polo players suffered burning eyes, believed hair and even loss of body hair. school district down played the effect. >> i don't think you saw a list of things that happened, you saw a list of potential things that could happen with a chemical imbalance. the only complaint i know of is from a parent specifically saying he was concerned about that happening with students. >> the imbalance was traced back to a broken carbon dioxide tank. the replacement has been ordered and the pool should reopen sometime next week. there are now six confirmed cases of ecoli in marin

county. four are children. the cases are reported in tibiron and other places. they are trying to pinpoint the source of the outbreak. e. coli infection usually happens by eating food that's contaminated. we have linking to information on e. coli, including symptoms to watch out for on our website under "see it on tv." one of the world's biggest construction and engineering firms is giving a major boost to the effort to redevelop the presidio. the san francisco based company is donating $25 million to help fund what's being called the tunnel top parkland. here's abc7 news reporter johnathan bloom on what that means for the park. >> from far away the sidewalk along the these historic building in san francisco's presidio appears to go all the way to the bay. only when you get closer do you realize it doesn't. for decades a freeway separated

quarterback tried to make the tackle. lowered his helmet and knocked unconscious instantly. down for a number of minutes. taken off the field on a stretcher but does have movement in his extremities. a few plays later, chuck key ton, his third touchdown pass. spartans fall to 1-3. nfl news, one positive for playing thursday night, niners get a few extra days off before they face the texans. it will be october 6th. it will be appreciated by the tight end vernon davis nursing a sore hamstring but he caught a touchdown win in the win over the rams. >> vernon is i guess a special creation. he has different kind of blood flowing through him than you or i do. the tear in his hamstring, and then all of a sudden it heels back together. >> great that see him out there. a reminder college football on

we around going to see much because low fog and clouds are not around. mid-level clouds, we have nothing out there. temperatures are in the low 40s half moon bay. pacifica, you are going to have a little bit of cloud cover for the afternoon for fog fest and in the north bay temperatures have dropped into the 40s. from our exploratorium cameras we are looking at numbers in the low 40s for half moon bay with a clear sky. 57 san francisco and oakland. those are the filed spots. emeryville is clear. cool from santa rosa to napa. 45 novato and low 50s concord and livermore. our highlights and the forecast calls for a mild to warm day this afternoon. the warmest day of the weekend. light rain could arrive in the north bay, more like sprinkles from sonoma county down toward the san mateo coast. this is sunday evening. by monday looking at some light showers, mainly north of the golden gate but we can't rule them out into the east bay or even as far south as monterey.

this is why. this is a huge storm system to the north of us. it is encompassing in the only moisture from an old typhoon but it promises to bring from two to four inches of rain for much of the pacific north west. we are looking at and timing out the next couple of days where we will see increasing clouds tomorrow. a look at today, sunny skies. by sunday some clouds. sunday night maybe some drizzle and here we are on monday, 11:00. you see we have some green up in the north bay. this could sag a little to the south before it pushes on out late monday. so keep that in mind if you are looking at some outdoor activities for tomorrow and monday. anywhere from a tenth to a quarter inch is possible through monday. here's a look at high temperatures. in the mid-70s for yosemite. starting out in the 20s in the northern sierra. 68 today. a beautiful fall afternoon for tahoe. low 70s on the coast. really nice-looking weather today. high temperatures ranging from the 60s and maybe even about 70

at point reyes. this is early on. then the fog moves back in. we will look for 78 today in oakland. 79 in fremont with highs in the mid-80s today. even warmer for you in livermore and antioch. 84 morgan hill. 79 in san jose. and so later on this afternoon, say about 3:00, 4:00, rights on cue we look for increasing clouds in pacifica with temperatures dropping from the mid-60s to the low 60s for fog fest. it should be a nice day starting out and then we will look for the typical fog, but you need that for fog fest, right? then tomorrow for candlestick we are looking at sunshine, maybe a few clouds around. game time numbers in the 70s. nice to start but increasing clouds and temperatures in the 60s. coliseum, sorry. we are looking at numbers coming down tomorrow. 60s and 70s with increasing clouds. here's the slight chance of showers on monday. looking at dry and warmer weather right through the rest of the work week. that includes an offshore flow, which we just got rid of.

>> welcome back. here are the winning numbers from last night's mega-millions draw. 9, 23, 27, 49, 51 and the meganumber is 38. nobody correctly picked all six so tuesday night's jackpot now grows to $189 million. three young swimmers from phoenix, arizona are getting ready to take on alcatraz. in morning they are in the water practicing for tomorrow's 18th annual alcatraz invitational in san francisco. it's a challenge for anyone, but these swimmers are visually impaired. they are the first blind team to participate in the event. they will use guides, they are trying to raise money and awareness for the foundation for blind children. it against tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at alcatraz and ends about 10:30 per gallon foot of the high street pier. good luck to them and everyone participating in the swim. next on abc7 saturday morning
