reporter: this afternoon we learned from the police chief actually, that woman has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, not involving drugs or alcohol, with gross negligence generals, and a group of kevin son's friend came to the corner where he was killed in the crash. the group posted messages, left flowers, and lit candles. kevin san was a student at abraham lincoln high school, and a member of the junior rotc drum corps. his friends say the group cancelled practice yesterday because of kevin's death. so his friends decided to come here to honor him. >> he always had a smile on his face. on a gloomy day, he would just maybe give a laugh. reporter: kevin was killed when police say a speeding mercedes suv slammed into the minivan he was in. his mother and sister were seriously injured, as were three other people in a different

vehicle. the driver of the speeding suv suffered minor injuries and police tell us she was taken to the hospital friday morning, and then medically released. she was spooked into the san francisco county jail friday. we are -- no. we understand she is facing several citations for vehicle code violations. reporting live, sergio quintana, abc7 news. >> the family of man stabbed to death near at&t park wednesday want the public's help to figure out what happened. dodger jonathan denver was killed after getting in an argument with a giants fan. cornell is live at the park. reporter: giants ended their season with a vic over the padres. fans are saying goodbye to the players. but before the game the family was searching the crowd for information in the death of their son. >> family and friends of

24-year-old jonathan denver were outside at&t park, passing out fliers to giant fans, hoping someone has information. but the strongest plea came from his father. >> today i'm making a plea to the public. asking that anyone who may have witnessed the incident, to come forward, so that both families can have some measure of closure. >> robert preece believes someone may have videotaped the fatal stabbing of his son, an l.a. dodgers fan. he got in a night with giant fans after a game on wednesday. michael montgomery was arrested by police but released due to lack of evidence. the family calls that a failure of the justice system. >> the alleged perpetrator was released from jail less than 48 hours after my son was fatally stabbed. yet jonathan is gone forever.

>> it reminded many of brian stowe who made an appearance at sunday's giants game. he is recovering from a brute brutal beating outside dodger stadium. stowe's family sends a message to the family of jonathan hunt. >> i know i have lost my son too soon. >> the city and the giants plan to work together on preventing violence. live at at&t park, abc7 news. >> one man is dead and another is in the hospital tonight following a shooting in antioch theft violence both out just after 10:00. police arrived to find two males, one 24, the other 20, both shot. the 24-year-old died the hospital. police say the shooting may have been gang-related. no arrests have been made. palo alto police need help to catch two robbers who hurt a woman in broad daylight.

the thieves targeted their woman around 3:45 yesterday afternoon. she told police man grabbed her hair from behind and pulled her to theground, and then a woman who was with the attacker took the victim's purse. she was treated for minor injuries. el cerrito police released surveillance video of two home robbery suspects. notice the camera and then the other breaks open the door. one suspect takes a tool to the camera, breaking it. there's video of the two suspects walking up to the house. police hope someone will reckons the burglars and help police track them down. >> oakland firefighters made quick work of a fire that may have been started by a squatter. firefighters arrived to the house burning on 79th avenue. it was abandoned, except for a squatter. fire officials say utilities had been cut to the house long ago. the flames briefly threatened homes next door but firefighters but it out before it could spread. >> it was another beautiful day

in the bay area. let's take a live look outside from the exploratorium cam. you can see a lot of blue there. leigh glaser tells us that could change. >> leigh: that camera was pointing to the south where all the sunshine is, point it to the noter, you'd see the cloud moving in. live doppler 7hd showing you the clouds right now, and also starting to pick up a little bit of moisture. we'll take you to the north of santa rosa, cloverdale, a little right rain, but much of the activity has been hung up along the north coast where a cold front is. it will slide south overnight tonight and tomorrow, and there could be just enough energy to squeeze out a few light showers for the bay area. we'll take a look at the timing, when you can expect, or if you will see showers tomorrow, coming up in a bit. today b.a.r.t. met with representatives of one of the two employee unions in

negotiation with the transit agency the two side have until october 10th to get a deal in place. at that time a state-mandated schooling -- cooling off period begins. b.a.r.t. has a plan in place if there is a strike, including free charter buses, extra car pool rains and limited train service run by b.a.r.t. managers. negotiations are scheduled almost every day through the end of the cooling-off period. october 10th is the last day talks are scheduled. >> former homeland security secretary janet napolitano will take over as president of the university of california system tomorrow. she has already weathered the first challenge of her tenure at uc, no confidence effort against her failed. it was launched by student activists. they believe her last job makes her a bad fit for the uc system as her new job is running campuses prone to protests and where undocumented students study. >> thousands of people enjoyed

>> a raccoon faces a long officer after getting called in what wildlife rescue services call an antiquated trap. the adult male raccoon was found mangled in two different body-gripping traps. the traps broke duke's left beau and right wrist. his tail needed to be amputated.

but duke will live despite his injuries, though it's unclear if he will be able to return to the wild. >> three young blind adults with what they call a diagnosis, not a disability, participated in the annual alcatraz invitational swim. the trio jumped from a boat off alcatraz and started pulling for the san francisco shore. they all made it, becoming the first blind group to complete the mile and a half swim. the three not only competed but sent this message. >> to prove that blindness doesn't set anybody back, and blind people can do anything that sighted people can, and i'm just -- to prove to myself and the world i can do whatever i put my mind to. >> this is not the group's first extreme event. some of them have climbed mt. kilimanjaro and hiked the rim of the grand canyon. >> up next, why case space x
