are trying to find a new place to get married. their plans suddenly scraped all thanks to the government shutdown. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm carolyn johnson. abc7 news reporter heather ishimaru is live at the cliff house tonight. one of the federal venues impacted by the shutdown. heather? >> carolyn, waterfront weddings and waterfront jobs are among the casualties of the government shutdown. a server leaving the cliff house says they were told at 2:30 not to come to work tomorrow. brides and grooms with weddings planned at bay area national park venues had only slightly more notice than that. this view should have been a backdrop for a wedding canceled atcitro heights. yesterday two weddings were canceled at other national park sites, china beach and the muir over look. a wedding planned at the maritime museum had to be relocated with the help of the caterer. >> we had to come up with a

>> the government shutdown is also affecting the bay area's blood supply. a blood drive was canceled today because more than a thousand employees there are furloughed. the stanford blood center says there is a need for type o negative blood. >> tomorrow will be the third full day of the government shutdown. there was another crisis on the horizon. the president met with congressional leaders to they will them the health care law will not be part of the shutdown negotiation. republicans say it was cor jill and unproductive. nancy pelosi says time is running out to get a deal done. >> so much is at stake. i am hopeful that in the conversation we heard each other and that we will be able to find a place to go. the next challenge is lifting the debt ceiling. >> congress will need to lift the debt ceiling before october 17th. otherwise the u.s. will default for the first time in history. if that happens economists say it will likely trigger another

drugs. the fbi arrested ulbrecht at the san francisco library. he is accused of running the silk road. a secret site that criminal used for illegal services like forgery. he is accused of using the site to assassinate a former employee he thoughtstealing. was stealing. the website is now shutdown and the fbi says he madeune frot fortune from. it tens of millions of dollars fog being the middle man in the sale of drugs like heroin and meth. >> palo alto police are trying to stop a rash of car break ins. so far this year we have seen more burglaries targeting parked cars than the annual totals for the past three years. among the trouble spots, the city parking garage and the parking lots for oak creek apartments. ama dates is live in palo alto for us. >> car break ins have become a huge problem in palo alto. i am on california avenue

which is one of the areas that was recently targeted by thieves who were after anything you leave behind. >> several cars along california avenue and palo alto were broken into in the month of september. >> we had approximately 70 auto burglaries and it is the most we have had in one month which is 2008. >> 16 happened in just one night here at oak creek apartments on sand hill road. >> the cost of living is pretty steep so the people who live here must be wealthy. the cars are nice so it would make sense people target this area as a place to maybe steal things. >> the break ins are happening all over the city during all hours of the day. there have been nine cases at this parking garage on bryant street on three separate occasions. he parks on the street for that very reason. >> there are a lot of break ins over the last few years whether it is high street or whether it is here. nobody wants to pay the deductible on the car since. >> police believe there may be several crews that will come to break into cars and the

rentals are attractive to thieves. >> we have visitors from europe and asia. and folks would not be aware and they will leave their laptop bags and luggage in the car. >> and thieves have spotted a rked tay and some are with bar codes. >> the problem with auto burglaries and why they are hard to solve is it is a quick crime and sometimes they are crimes of opportunity. they are in and out and gone. >> if you can't lock your belongings in your home or hotel before going out, police say the best advice is to take them with you. ama dates, abc7 news. >> imagine helping those in need and being robbed in the process. >> listen to this. a group of habitat for humanity workers was robbed at a site where jimmy carter was scheduled to visit. it happened at the brookfield court development. eight habitat staff members were robbed of their cell phones and wallets. it happened yesterday. a man was shot at and pistol whipped. this is a look at the site

when officer jennifer bloom pulled up to a park in newark and found an abandoned german shepherd tied to this bench. it was pregnant and in labor. >> you know, we go through training on how to -- if we ever have to help a woman deliver a baby, but we have never had to deal with puppies. >> bloom who spoke to us via face time says the dog was in distress and was trying to bury one of the puppies that was already dead. carefully bloom removed the dog and took it to the central veteranary hospital in fremont. >> i heard some puppies screaming in the back and i knew she was actively giving birth to more as i was draifg over there. >> -- as i was driving over there. >> the police officer was knocking on the backdoor and she was freaked out as i was. >> she says the german shepherd appeared to be a first time mother, less than a year old. >> and after delivering three puppies here they had a strong suspicion there may be more. >> there are four fetuses you can count in here.

you go from the skull down to the spine. >> she had a total of nine puppies and two did not survive. >> she has been a great mom. she had a rough time, a really rough time. >> police are investigating this as a cruelty to animals case. there was no microchip or tag so the veteranary workers call her bristol. if nobody claims her she and her puppies will be available for adoption. there is no video stemming from the assault of a driver in new york. prosecutors dropped the charges against one of two men arrested after the driver of an suv was dragged from his car and beaten by a group of bikers. the other man has been charged with reckless driving and unlawful imprisonment. officials are now investigating some new video found on-line. it shows bikers driving on the wrong side of the street and running red lights and speeding down sidewalks. at one point, they circle around the car like sunday's incident. it is unclear if these groups

are affiliated, but it is now part of the police investigation. a jury today found a concert promoter is not at fault from michael jackson's death. the verdict in the five-month civil trial came in late today. jackson's mother, katherine, sued aeg live for hiring dr. conrad murray. he was jackson's doctor during the come bane -- come back concerts. they uh cured -- they accused them of hiring him without knowing if he was qualified for the job. >> conrad murray had a land grao and graduated from an accredited college and we felt he was competent to do the job of being a general practitioner. now that doesn't mean we felt he was ethical. >> jackson died in 2009. murray was convicted two years later of involuntary manslaughter forgiving jackson the drugs. >> video showing a new tesla model on fire had stocks falling 6%. the car's battery burst into

jose, 50s and can you can see how good the visibility is. it is 57 in napa and mid60s around antioch and 60 degrees in concord and 57 in livermore. from the east bay hills camera we are looking across the bay at a bouncy camera here. definitely getting windy over some of our hilltops. thursday evening through saturday morning with the gusty winds and the hills and inland especially. a warmer pattern for the end of the workweek and the beginning of the weekend. here is a look at satellite and radar. it is moving to the pacific northwest. we have high pressure starting to build in behind it and the winds are fuming right uh -- funneling right across the northern portion of the state and eventually over us. a windy pattern is starting to develop, and we will sees winds heading into tomorrow afternoon. tomorrow morning, 5:00 a.m., you can see the strongest winds 36, 37 miles an hour.

as we head into the afternoon the winds will start to pick up in our inland areas like fairfield. out of the north, 41 miles an hour, so it is definitely going to get gusty. 38, 40, somewhere in that range and even along the coast, midto upper 30s. you will have to hang on tight especially as you are driving through the delta area. we are looking at gusts to fiewrt 5 miles an hour. -- 45 miles an hour. it will be difficult to drive and you won't have to watch out for blowing debris. give yourself time to get the kids off to school. breezy to windy with upperatures in the 40s to the mid50s. you will they'd that extra layer as you head out the door. 76 in san jose and 79 los gatos. gilroy. 74 in sawn knee veil. mid70s for palo alto and menlo park. 72 degrees and 68 in half moon bay. this is the time of year when you see either limited or no fog at all. and it is going to be no fog tomorrow.

the baseball gods have it all lined up. former red sox manager would win the wild card game and take the cleveland indians back to boston. the tampa bay rays had other ideas about that. the cleveland fans pumped up and indians making their first post season appearance since 2007. tampa bay opens the scoring and young is young is restless. tampa bay up 1-0 and the rays would pad their lead in the fourth. jennings with a double down the line. he scores easily and evan longoria trying to score from first and he is safe. tampa up 3-0. rays closer fernando rodney slams the door in the
