an an amaze sight from sky 7hd. a small plane lands safely in an intersection in the middle of rush hour traffic. >> their emergency landing made for heart-pounding moments for them and commuters, landing in traffic on capital expressway south of the reed hill view airport in san jose. mike keller is there. you talked with the plane's owner? reporter: yes, we did. the plane was towed here. it was a training flight that took a wrong turn.

the morning commute in east san jose is normally busy, but today an extra road block was in place for drivers. a small plane carrying two people made an emergency landing on capital expressaway at 8:00 this morning, coming to a stepin the right-hand turn lane. >> seen nothing like this recently. blocking my way, so i had to go straight. >> the owner of the flight school, aerodynamic aviation, told us the pilot and student lost power after taking off from the nearby airport. once there was trouble the pilot took the controls and set down the plane. >> the nice thing is the traffic lights and there was a whole empty stretch where cars were stopped. >> the owner would not name the pilot but says he has 3,000 hours of flight experience and has -- the next step is to take apart the engine of the plane.

as for the school,. >> lands once before in the last eight years. very useful road. >> the owner told me he spoke with officials from the local faa office this morning. he says he is expecting investigators to show up out here later today or tomorrow. reporting live, abc7 news. >> breaking news. there's a massive power outage in east bay right now. pg&e is reporting three outages in the san leandro area. 24,000 customers are in the dark right now. othertys affected include san lorenzo, hayward, and castro valley. this began at 10:00 this morning. no estimated time for crews restoring power. some reports of streetlights being out, so treat intersections as four-way stops. we'll keep watching new

developments. >> in vallejo fire investigators are looking into the cause of a deadly fire. firefighters arrived at a mobile home park and found the residence fully in involved in flames. man was found in the back bedroom. he was rushed to the hospital but died of his injuries. all investigators are saying is the fire does not appear to be suspicious. one down two to go in negotiations between b.a.r.t. and its two biggest unions. both sides say they reached a deal on pensions but remain deadlocked on two key issues before the cooling-off period begins. >> you can tell we're getting close. the rhetoric is ramping up. the chief negotiator for the unions came out swinging, starting the day at 7:00 a.m. with a press conference and a demand. >> it's now time for b.a.r.t. to respond. the district has not given up

warning is. the winds are coming out of the north, and that's usually a dry wind for us, and a gusty win. so let's look at the current winds at higher elevation. mt. tamalpais, 11. and you expect these areas in red to get gusts increasing in velocity today at 6:00. and that will last through 6:00 a.m. saturday. so above 1,000 feet we'll have the stronger gusts and critical fire conditions. you can use the abc weather app if you're aware from the tv. we have this information available. so that's going to be there. we'll come back in a few minutes and talk about what is going to happen with the warm weather and how long it will stretch through the weekend.

>> happening now. more grim discoveries from divers off the italian coast. they continue to find bodies from a slip that capsized and sank. at least 100 people are dead in the accident near sicily. here's the later. >> the divers have seen at least another 20 bounds around the boat, so that brings the number of dead to 114. but hundreds of people are still missing. >> the italian coast guard police helicopters and patrol boats plucked 150 survivors from the waters overnight. stunned survivors huddled together on you're. rescue crews retrieved the bodies. the mayor of the island says the vessel reportedly caught fire after those on board set off flairs so they could be seen by other passing boats.

it then capsized, forcing some passengers to jump overboard. pope francis called the tragedy a disgrace. >> let us unite our efforts so tragedies like this night be repeated. only a determined collaboration can help prevent them. >> women and children are among the dead. only three of an estimated 100 women on the ship were rescued, and only the strongest survived. >> they put them on the crowded boat, overcrowded boat. they'm are not manned to -- such a long and dangerous journey. >> the coast guard says divers have not gone inside the boat. and this boat was actually the third ship of the night head toward the island. the first two reached shore safely.

live in the newsroom. >> new this morning. san francisco policer looking for witnesses in the robbery of a limousine driver. the driver says two men robbed him near guerrero street around 4:30 this morning. the suspects took cash and jewelry, and the driver crashed into a parked car as he tried to get away. police are hoping witnesses will come forward. the chp is looking for any witnesses after a road rage shooting sent a woman to the hospital last night. it ended in richmond, but started on 880 in hayward. investigators say two young women in a black honda got spoon altercation when someone in a white truck. one of the women in the honda was shot in a leg and was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. the driver of the truck took off from the scene. >> in palo alto, police are looking for those responsible for random attack on a motorist.

this morning, police released this sketch of one of the two men involved in the attack. investigators say the victim was stabbed with a knife after he pulled over for a car trouble to check out his car late saturday night. the victim was not robbed and is expected to recover. if you recognize this man, though, the suspect, the palo alto police would like you to give them a call. >> a san francisco man will be the federal court to answer charges he rap an a massive online black market for drugs. he is accused of running silk road, the ebay for drugs. they say criminals use the silk road web site to trade drugs and illegal services like forgery. he is also accused of using the site to hire somebody to kill a former employee he thought was stealing. the web site is now shut down. court documents show they sold $1.2 million of drugs in three

governor brown signed historic legislation this morning that allows undocumented immigrants to get driver's licenses. it allows anyone who passes a written driving test to get a california license regardless of their immigration status. the licenses can only be used for driving, not as federal identification. it's believed 1.4 million people will apply for the lions after they -- apply for the licenses after they become available no 2015. >> the planning commission
