it happened in the area of solano. the branch is completely shattered into the windshield and into the truck. so how long will these winds stick around? let's ask mike nicco. >> better part of today. that's a good question. let me show you what's going on in our hilltops, altamont pass, 24, the oakland hills, gusting to 30, same thing at alyce peak, knoxville creek 43. most of our lower elevations are feeling winds around 20 to 25 miles per hour. you're going to find a lot of debris on the roads when you're riding around this morning. trees, tree limbs, twigs, all that stuff, from such a long dry season that weakened part of the tree giving way to these winds. our fastest winds in the north bay mountains and diablo range through 3:00 this afternoon. if you have evening plans the winds will start to relax. before then they will be out of the east to northeast at 20 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 keeping the fire danger in our forecast for areas above

1,000 feet and that's until 6:00 tomorrow morning. we'll take a look at your temperatures because a warming trend is also on the way in your forecast. first a check of traffic. >> we certainly have high wind advisories issued by the chp as well. as we first take you into oakland, though, report of a tree that went down into lanes westbound, excuse me should be southbound side of highway 13 at lincoln avenue. lanes blocked due to that. as we go outside i want to show you from our emeryville camera the bay bridge and how the camera is bouncing up and down. we have a high wind advisory for this bridge and dumbarton and the richmond. for anyone driving anything that's high profile, you might not want to take that on to the roadings just proceed with caution. >> thank you. the winds have certainly increased our fire risk. we have that wildfire burning near lake berrysea in napa. it's 75% contained after scorching 376 acres. this fire broke out around 8:30

last night in the area of berrysea and knoxville road. five structures were threatened. no evacuations ordered by roads will remain closed for fire fighting. contra costa near the scene of a brush fire in martinez. it started around 1:00 in a wildland area in solano way north of highway 4. smoke and flames could be scene seen in a wide area. no word on what caused the fire, how much brush was burned and the extent of damage. firing embers from a fire at a recycling plant are blamed for sparkling 18 others fires. it broke out around 3:00. part of interstate 5 was closed for a short while. officials say it started with burning paper outside the plant and spread. firefighters say they couldn't get to it fast enough. >> in this case the fire started at the front and absolutely prohibited our units to get into the fire scene. >> the fire spread to our

recyclables including several other propane tanks that expl e exploded and homes nearby. no injuries reported. in sunnyvale investigators will be back at an apartment building today to try to determine the cause of a fast-moving fire. flames destroyed a number of units in the building on west california street and north murphy avenue yesterday. several residents were forced to evacuate. fire went to three alarms producing heavy black smoke and flames. officials say the building is too damaged to live in. >> authorities are investigating whether a post-partum depression drove a connecticut mother to try to drive past barriers at the white house and u.s. capitol. authorities identified the woman shot and killed by police after leading them on a high-speed chase as 34-year-old dental hygienist miriam carey. the fbi searched a home last night. relatives say she suffered serious post po tum depression after giving birth to daughter last year. investigators say carey tried to back into officers who tried to stop her. the chaos put the capitol on

lockdown yesterday. officers told lawmakers to hide their identities. >> we'll take your pin off. i have a -- we wears these pins around. he told me to take the pin off because you could be a target. >> a secret service agent and a capitol police officer were injured. carey was with her 1-year-old daughter who was not harmed and she's now in protective custody. authorities did not find any weapons in carey's car. and we'll bring you updates on the investigation into the capitol hill shooting on air and on-line on our website, abc7news.com where you can see more dramatic images of the shooting from the first people on the scene. the nation is entering day four of a government shutdown and still no end in sight. house republicans are proposing that the 800,000 furloughed government workers get back pay when the shutdown is over. a vote could come as early as today. conservatives are not backing down from trying to include changes to obama care and emergency spending bill. meanwhile president obama canceled a trip to asia for economic summits in indonesia

next week. secretary of state john kerry will be standing in for him. >> a bail hearing today for the san francisco man accused of operating a black market website believed to have racked up more than a billion dollars in drug sales. ralph olbrek was arrested tuesday in the san francisco library. federal prosecutors fired charges in new york alleges ulbricht operated silk road, a digital marketplace that allowed users to trade illegal goods and services in near total secrecy. he is also charged in maryland with using the website to hire someone to kill a witness. a santa clara high school teacher accused of having sex with an underage student is expected to enter a plea when he returns to court this morning. police arrested 32-year-old cortez gusmond days ago. someone tipped off school officials about inappropriate contact with a 17-year-old female. the district contacted police who took him into custody.

school officials placed gusmond on administrative leave. investigators think she's ot only victim. three high school students recovering from injuries after the school bus they were on collided with a truck in san jose at the intersection of east julian and north 28th streets. sky 7 hg was overhead immediately after the crash. you can see the bus was carrying 48 students from san jose high when it hit a white pick-up that turned in front of it. the truck hit an suv. that driver was hospitalized after complaining of pain. all of the injuries thankfully are considered to be minor. >> b.a.r.t and union negotiators will be back at the bargaining table with six days left before the end of the cooling off period. b.a.r.t management is considering the latest offer presented by the unions. workers have lowered their base pay proposal to increases below 15% over three years. both sides have reached an agreement on pension contributions. if no new contract is reached the unions could strike again as early as next friday when the

we'll talk to mike nicco about what's facing us today. >> breaking news in san jose where firefighters are on the scene of a house fire. this was the scene earlier on foothill court west of foothill park near santa teresa boulevard. firefighters say high winds were a factor fueling the flames through the home. see the flames shooting from the attic where it started. the family got out safely. we are working to get more information and bring it to you as soon as it becomes available. a community is remembering a mother who was killed when she was run over bay park worker. friends and family held a vigil for christy vonmere. authorities say she was sun bathing with her infant and dog when an employee ran her over with his truck last month in holley park. after last night's vigil organizers passed around a petition calling for the rec and park department to enforce its policy of using spotters when a vehicle veers off a paved pathway. >> that it was a story that could have been any one of us and i think when you think about

that, then you are empathetic and you want to participate. >> he is currently on paid admin traytive leave and out on bail. the d.a. is waiting for more evidence before filing charges. police are looking for the bandit who robbed a credit union. a female suspect walked into the credit union wednesday afternoon. she robbed the teller of an undisclosed amount of cash. there's the picture. police need your help to identify her. described as 5'8", 170 pounds with dark brown hair pulled back and wearing red and white shoes. the suspect left the bank on foot in an unknown direction. no one was hurt in that robbery. the most highly anticipated stock sale since facebook is moving forward. twitter has filed to go public revealing its revenue for the first time. some are questioning the timing of the offering. abc 7 news reporter lisas has more. >> reporter: twitter is going public, a look at its ipo

filing. twitter reports revenue of $254 million for the first half of this year, expenses reached $316 million. still, the company lost $69 million during the same time period. tech analyst rob egg early doesn't think twitter is ready for the move. much like facebook wasn't when it went public last year. >> we had a feeding frenzy on the stock. the financials isn't support the valuation that it reached and it collapsed under the weight. >> reporter: he also thinks the current government shutdown is a huge obstacle with twitter. >> with the government shutdown this is turning into a fry market ipo. >> reporter: twitter isn't changing course just yet and people are still talking about the newest ipo filing. >> i would probably buy it and sell it quickly. as soon as it went up. >> my answer is no. i would not get involved in

i think the coast will stay warmer sunday than what i thought yesterday. and cooler next week and rain, it may return. it's looking better than it did yesterday. here's the setup. look at the areas of high and low pressure. notice how close they are shooting the winds right through there. that sharp pressure difference. there's gradient why we're seeing strong winds here. this is a trough of low pressure, thermal trough where the warm air comes together and rises. usually that sits in the central valley because that's where it's hottest. the winds out of the east and northeast are pushing it to the coast and that's why you're going to get warmer also. talk about temperatures today. low to mid 80s down in the south bay with 82 in san jose. on the peninsula, we'll have low to mid 80s also, 82 palo alto, menlo park, 77 millbrae, you're close, low 70s along the coast today. daily city, 73. mid to upper 70s downtown, south

to the roads because gusty conditions can mean dangerous conditions as well. >> 13 members of the hacker group anonymous are under indictment. they're charged with cyber attacks against government agencies, law firms and financial institutions. the indictment says the attacks began in 2010 and the members intentionally caused damage to protect computers during the group's operation payback. the government says the hackers were going after groups critical of wikileaks. it's that time of the year again to get flu shots an health officials in the east bay were making sure seniors are covered. registers nurses game flu shots at the san leandro community center yesterday. the next will be next thursday, october 10th, from 9:30 to 2:00 in the afternoon. shots are given on a first come, first served basis. 5 bucks per person but if you're covered by medicare part b it's free. >> 4:50. coming up the video that made national headlines now learning more from a woman inside that suv.

a live look outside at the city and you can see a beautiful shot and the camera shaking a little bit because it's windy. mike nicco will let you know how long the winds will last coming up. instagram taking steps to make cash. the photo sharing app will start showing occasional photo and video ads in the coming months. the app owned by facebook has not shown any adds, though users can follow brands and businesses. instagram says it will be selective and only show the

raphael bridge, we have a wind advisory. outside right now and talk about san jose where winds are calmer. looking at 280 coming away from 17. just a couple of headlights making it in the northbound direction. matt, kristen? >> thank you, leyla. the wife of the suv driver who was chased down and assaulted by a group of motorcyclists in new york city said her husband wanted to protect his family. a group of motorcyclists surrounded a car on manhattan's west side highway. the driver then took off but ran over one of the riders. he was chased down, pulled from his car and beaten. his wife and 2-year-old daughter were inside. one of the biker's said he and his fellow riders were ready to walk away. >> look at the end of the video. he walked away. what you don't see after the end of the video is the guy mouthing off. which is more aggressive behavior. if you're worried for your family don't be aggressive. >> his wife expressed sympathy to a biker seriously injured in the encounter but says her husband was faced with a
