>> good morning, even. we are coming up at 6:00 a.m. on this saturday morning. i'm katie marzullo. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. here's lisa argen. >> some of the higher elevations still retaining some of the wormth and also the breeze. elsewhere we dropped into the 40s and winds are lighter around the bay. we are talking about 40s from santa rosa, 50s in livermore and around los gatos. but it's still quite warm in half moon bay. temperatures at about 70 feet are at about 70 degrees. with the clear sky this morning we are talking about plenty of sunshine this afternoon. the red flag warnings have been lifted. we are looking at a very dry atmosphere for today and tomorrow with 80s around the bay. very little testimony variation. changes come by the beginning of the work week. i'll have that accuweather seven day forecast coming up in a few

minutes. katie. >> lisa, thank you. we are starting with breaking news. all lanes of southbound highway 101 are blocked due to an injury involving multiple vehicles. this happened right before sierra point parkway. traffic is being diverted off of interstate 280. no word when the freeway will reopen. we will bring you more information as it develops this morning. more break news in oakland where police are looking for suspects information after a fatal triple shooting at a busy downtown intersection early this morning. police were nearby and her the gunfire at 14th and broadway around 1:30 this morning. officers say they also saw a crowd of people running for safety after the shots were fired. at the scene they found three victims, two women and one man. they called for ambulances. one of the women died at the hospitals. police say they don't know who fired the shots or what the motive might have been. police say there were so many people in the area the suspect or suspects got away in all of the confusion. we are also following developing news in east oakland. police are investigating a double shooting that left one

dead and one sent to the hospital. it happened last night on 106th street near interstate 580. police got the call just before 8:30 and arrived to find a man's body outside of a car. the second was taken to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound. police have not arrested anyone. they are hoping witnesses will come forward and help lead them to suspects in that case. a fire created haze across the bay area. gusty winds fanned the flames and blew smoke across the region. officials say it was caused by a combination of rare winds and marshland vegetation. allen wong has more from highway 12 in solano county. >> by nightfall fire crews were mopping up a few hotspots and a herd of cattle was looking for greener pastures. it all started around noon, the massive fire east of sassoon city burned about 1000 acres. several cows were dropped but ranch hand helped free them. it burned its say into the

nearby marshland and seemed to generate more smoke than flames. >> fighting fires out here, particularly in the marsh, there's green vegetation and it smokes more than typical than if the vegetation was dry. >> the smoke snarled traffic along interstate 80 and the northerly winds blew it right into the bay area, creating a haze in the sky. meanwhile more than a dozens homes were evacuated. >> i am waiting for my daughter to come out. they are trying to get the bird and the dog. >> the only loss was a ranch building that contained hay and farm equipment. the fire is under control, but crews are paying attention to the wind and several teetering power poles damaged by the flames. in solano county, allen wong, abc7 news. >> this fire in sonoma county came close to at least one home in roanoke park. firefighters stopped the flames after they charred about 130 acres of dry brush

sky 7hd shows a fire along interstate 880. it briefly threatened some buildings around 3:00 yesterday afternoon but no evacuations had to be ordered. you could smell smoke in just about every part of the bay area yesterday with all of the fires. viewers tweeted us all day and reached out to us on facebook and said they saw haze and smelled smoke, even miles from the fire. the haze almost made alcatraz vanish. some folks felt disappointed. then trying to enjoy the view from the hills above berkeley. >> it's a bummer when you don't see the blue sky, but it's sad to know it's from so far away and it affects here. >> i looked up and thought something was burning in my house or something like that. >> plenty of smoke was still visible in the area. see in this panorama that was taken at sunset yesterday from our sutro tower cam.

san carlos because of a pg&e pipeline beneath the city, similar to the one that caused the deadly explosion in san bruno. now a san mateo county judge has ordered the pipeline shut down. we have more from san carlos. >> pg&e doesn't know enough about the condition of this pipeline. >> san carlos city manager, jeff, is worried about pg&e's pipeline 147, which runs between 280 and 101 primarily along britain avenue. >> their records are mismatched in terms of the material, the age of the pipeline, whether or not refurbished pieces from the 1920s were used in the creation of the pipeline. >> the pipeline is similar to the one in san bruno that ruptured and exploded in 2010 killing eight people. in an e-mail from an employee to the city, the city raises concerns about pipeline 147 saying are we at this time sitting on a san bruno situation.

a pg&e spokesperson assures me the line is safe. the facility tested the line two years ago, burr the city isn't convinced. so it's in the process of serving pg&e with a temporary injunction and it requires pg&e to immediately shut off service to pipeline 147. pg&e has already voluntarily reduced the line pressure by 20% and says it will consider further reductions if it can be done without jeopardizing service to customers. both pg&e and san carlos want to assure residents there's no need to panic over pipeline 147. >> there's no reason for them to panic to have to think about leaving their homes or make any changes to their lives that they would on a daily basis. >> the california public utilities commission will meet with the city monday to see if there's anything they can do to get the issue sorted out. >> sky service hd shows us where a gas leak forced the costco in danville was evacuated last night. they said it happened just after 6:00. it took crews about an hour to patch the leak and shoppers returned to the costco when firefighters gave the all-clear.

san jose fire crews were at the scene of a pair of fires that broke out. both mobile homes were empty. fire apparently started in one of them and spread to the other. oakland police have made an arrest in a case of a fender-bender that led to murder. charles butler was shot to death in 2011 after bumping another car while trying to parallel park. abc7 news reporter sergio quinn has more on the attest. >> the arrest is the latest chapter in the murder case of charles butler jr. just days before christmas in 2011 police say butler was killed after accidentally bumping a car while trying to parallel park in an oakland corner store. douglas was arrested tuesday. investigators say he's an accomplice.

the accused gunman, cartier hunter, is still on the lose. police are trying to track him down. >> there was a fundraiser that was happening around the corner that day. >> butler's sister described the scene when he was shot in 2011. >> he was coming right down the street. they were chasing him. there were six bullets. they weren't happy with that. drove up and put the last bullet in his head over nothing. >> as an organ donor he helped save several recipients that holiday season. >> the fact he gave his organs to someone else is the most wonderful christmas gift ever. my brother was giving life to other people. >> police say they got new tips on the case after a recent plea by butler's ailing father. >> we had a news release a month back, month and a half back, where the father, who is dying, requested that before he leaves this earth that someone police -- please someone help him find the killers. >> his family tells me they are happy about douglas' arrest. they are hoping that cartier hunter will also soon be in custody.

abc7 news. >> a 12-year-old is in a coma after being hit by a car on a freeway in oakland. with witnesses say the boy, who has autism, was in his pajamas and walking from lane to lane on 580 yesterday morning. chp investigators are still trying to figure out how he end ed up on the highway. they have found the boy's mother. the driver of car that hit him will not be charged. a big gap separates both sides in bart's labor talks, but how big depends on who you ask. bart says there had an $89 million gap. at least one union says it's really $30 million. they disagree on how long a new labor contract should last. bart officials want a four year contract and the unions want three years. talks resume today to prevent another strike, which could come next week. two dogs that strayed into a rural brentwood property were shot to death, not killed by a shovel as first reported. john originally told officials he beat the dogs to death with a

shovel and cremated them, but they say he was covering for his father, who shot the dogs last saturday after they began killing his chickens. state law does allow an owner to kill a dog that is attacking livestock. >> lisa is here mao with the forecast. we understand some lanes have reopened. a bad crash around 4:15. this has been an hours-long process but some lanes starting to reopen. now weather. >> yes, and good news too. with lighter winds around the bay, the red flag warnings have been dropped but the elevated fire danger stays with us as temperatures climb through the 80s once again from vollmer peak. we are looking at very clear conditions. winds are much, much calmer, but the heat remains over the weekend. your forecast is right around the corner. >> lisa, thank you. also up next, chaos at the capital. the sisters of the woman shot and killed by police are asking questions about what happened and why it had to happen.

kevin's mother remains in a coma. his sister suffered serious injuries. authorities say 58-year-old jeanne was going 80 miles an hour when she slammed into the family's minivan. the sisters of the woman killed by police after a car chase in the nation's capital want to know why she had to die. 34-year-old woman was killed after she tried to ram through a barrier at the white house. her sisters say she didn't show any signs of being unstable and didn't need to die. >> deadly physical force wasn't the ultimate recourse and it didn't have to be. and you have to ask yourself as americans, is it okay for that to happen? because it can happen to you. and if we are okay with that, then i feel sorry for all of us. >> the woman's mother told abc news that she suffered from postpartum depression last summer. abc news also learned she was hospitalized three times for mental issues last december.

the partial shut down of the federal government has entered its fifth day. president obama is urging house republicans to pass a short-term spending measure that would reopen the government without strings attached. coming up, we will have more on the legislation expected to be voted on today by congress. that would help at least furloughed workers. the shut down of the government is impacting many home buyers and sellers who face uncertainty about when mortgages can be approved and their sales closed. 7 on your side's michael finney has more on that. >> alex put it bluntly. he is ticked off about the government shut down. >> every, every single move on their part i think is a farce and it's shameful. it's a completely shameful way to behave. >> alex buys and sells home as a living. he is popularly known as a flipper.

he buys distressed homes, rehabilitates them and sells them for a profit. he made his latest sale last week but the government shut down has put it in doubt. >> it puts it in uncertainty, which is pretty serious because that's my source of income. >> here's why. before the loan can close, the buyer's social security number must be verified, but the social security number is under partial shut down with 29% of its workers furloughed. a transcript of the taxes of the buyers is also needed from the irs for income verification, but the agency is only staffed at 10%. >> we need to get past the social security check and the irs check in order for the veterans administration to invest the time to go through the rest of the loan process. >> this man estimates one out of four loans in california are government-backed by the v.a. or federal housing administration.

those loans are in limbo now due to the shutdown. other lenders have the same requirements, but are being more flexible. some lenders have reportedly waved the transcript requirement. you should check with yours about how it's handling the government shutdown. with each passing day of the shutdown, alex is feeling more pressure. >> we need the sale to go through. we need it to go through quickly. the money is tied up. we want to roll into the next project as soon as possible. >> that was michael finney reporting. we did receive word that cal-vet home loans are not affected by the government shutdown. that's good news there. the shutdown is affecting tomorrow's bridge to bridge race in san francisco. organizers are being forced to move the finish line to crissy field to the marina green. the 7k run is reduced to a a 5k. the 10k will remain the same lent. other events could clog up roadways in san francisco this weekend. there's the hardly strictly bluegrass festival and the

castro street fair is tomorrow and the 49ers are in action at the canned i will stick park. and you have a marathon that 16,000 runners are expected to take part tomorrow morning. probably the biggest roadway affected is 880 from 6:00 temperature to noon. police in oregon have released footage of a driver shooting from a patrol officer after he was being pulled over for speeding. thinks play the 48-year-old initiated the attack. one of the helmet captors captured the video right lent chain of events. the driver running over a biker. and we are learning the pack of bikers included off hurf duty police officers and one undercover narcotics detective has told the nypd, he did not get involved because he didn't want to blow his cover. >> it's been a scary start to

the portland school year to students. this is what they say they saw every morning during their bus ride to school. that's their bus driver barely able to stay away. kids told school officials, who told the district and nothing was done. they even watched him heading the wrong way down a one-way street. >> i said hey, you know this is a one-way street, right? >> you said something to him? >> i did. and he is, like, oops. despite their complaints nothing was done until the boy's uncle told them to get proof and that's when nick took the video on has phone. they showed it to district officials, who showed it to the private bus company, who finally removed the driver. >> a cal firefighter escaped unharmed after he made a hard landing in southern california. you see this spilled on the runway. the plane had been fighting a fire in riverside counties and officials had just cancelled the second drop. cal fire and the ntsb are prying

to look into what went wrong. a bankrupt company got caught up in the frenzy over witter's i.p.o. stocks for a bankrupt electronics retailer called tweeter are soaring. it trades with the symbol soared 1400% yesterday. it only got them up to 15 cents a share. it was so dramatic, stocks were briefly halted yesterday. tweeter will sell under the symbol twtr when it goes for sale next month. >> i don't know how hold the tweeter company is but they probably could never have predicted that when they named their company. >> sure. we still have elevated fire danger, even though the red flag warnings have been dropped from the national weather service. the gusty winds are over but a little breeze above 70 feet are allowing temperatures to still calculate into the 60s, even a few 70s. but really mainly in the 50s this morning with a few

localized areas in the 40s. so we are ranging from the 7-degree temperature at half moon bay to 57 san carlos, 62 san francisco. good morning oakland, 64 for you. and from our sutro tower it is clear outside. temperatures are cool in the north bay with 44 degrees santa rosa. 51 in napa. so it feels like october in some areas around the bay. 58 in antioch and concord is sitting at 55. that sun not up until after 7:00. but beautiful shot from our exploratorium camera. we are talking about clear and mainly cool conditions this morning with warm weather around the bay this weekend. we are talking 80s for everyone. not only today, maybe even a few degrees of warming tomorrow. and the sea breeze returns right on cue for the beginning of the work week. that brings the temperatures down notably all week long. with extra cloud cover, we could even see a few light raindrops midweek. you see the high pressure off the coast in the upper levels of

the atmosphere and the trough situated along the coastline. that brings the warmth all the way to the beaches. yesterday we were well into the 80s at the coast. and today very little change. but if you are planning the week ahead, here's a look at oakland and what you can expect tomorrow with more 80s. and then by monday into the mid-70 utah. look what happens tuesday. even cooler. the coolest day is wednesday and thursday. and a slow recovery by the end of the week. so high temperatures today in the south bay once again low to mid-80s. but look at the santa cruz. we were in the 80s yesterday. it was about 86. today going for a little bit warmer conditions there. 85 in san jose. milpitas warming to 82. and on the peninsula look for highs ranging from the mid-80s for redwood city and mountain view. but once again, half moon bay and pacifica, not too often you see the numbers in the 80s. san francisco topping out around 80 degrees, as well as daly city up in the north bay from

stinson, even to bodega bay. mid-70s to near 80. 84 novato. look for the mid-80s around vallejo. 12 hayward and 81 fremont. coster valley 84 and heading inland, very little change with the temperatures still anywhere from the low 80s in brentwood to about 84 in the livermore valley. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. today and tomorrow plenty of 80-degree temperatures. we could see a few degrees of cooling at our coast late in the day with the sea breeze. otherwise everyone cools off monday. 60s, 70s, and only a few 80s inland. tuesday much cooler, 60s and 70s with increasing clouds through wednesday. maybe a chance of showers. 60 coast, 70s inland. you notice a bit of a warming trend next weekend. it will feel like the season eventually but not this weekend. eventually. thank, lisa. coming up, back in session. a look at the issues the supreme court is set to take up in

with meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi, katie. this is mt. tam. sunrise is still about 39 minutes away. temperatures cool in the north bay with 34 in santa rosa. a puff of wind elsewhere allowing temperatures down the road in napa to still be in the 50s. mid-50s concord. at the cost we are up to 7 degrees. we are looking for another warm day. the elevated fire danger with us despite the red flag warning being dropped from the national weather service because wind gusts will be absent today. it will be just warm with a light offshore flow. that will bring temperatures up to about 80 degrees. even warmer in some spots at the shoreline. and we will talk about that little variation in temperature, when it's going to feel like the season and the second half of your weekend all coming up. katie. thank you, lisa. president obama is urging out republicans to vote on a senate-approved bill to reopen the federal government. it is day five of the partial

shutdown. congress will convene today to consider back pay for 800,000 sidelined federal workers. both houses are expected to approve that possibly by the end of the day. but the president wants a yes or no vote in the house that could quickly end the shutdown. >> pass a budget that funds our government with no partisan strings attached. the senate has already done this. and there are enough republicans and democratic votes in the house of representatives willing to do the same. end the shutdown immediately. unfortunately the far right of the republican party won't let speaker boehner give that bill a yes or no vote. take that vote and stop this farce and end this shutdown now. >> in the republican address texas senator blames senate democrats for refuse to go make any changes to the healthcare law. >> next week is fleet week, but due to the government shut down it will be a lot quieter this year.

the blue angels and boat parade were scheduled back in april because of budget cuts. now it's just what was left of fleet week that will be cancelled because of the shutdown. event drew tens of thousands of people each year. there is something else to dazzle the crowd. fireworks. they will be launched from pier they will beery saturday nightr this month starting tonight. today is free financial planning day. you can meet one-on-one with certified financial planners at no cost. you can get free advice on things like getting out of debt, retirement planning. it is today from nine to four at oakland city hall. >> police in san carlos may have stopped a sexual predators. officers arrested a 50-year-old transient. he's charged with annoying minors, molestation and sexual battery. they say he inappropriate touched three children in

>> welcome back. coming up on 6:40. lisa argen with a letter forecast today than yesterday. >> yeah. we hope to enjoy the warm weather with less winds. still a couple areas with winds over 25 miles an hour. that's in the higher elevations. but despite that, the national weather service has dropped all red flag warnings across the bay area, even around the delta and the sacramento valley. so live doppler 7hd showing we are clear this morning. low clouds and fog staying away from the bay for the entire weekend. so you get an idea of what that means. emeryville this morning, it's clear. temperatures ranging from the 60s in the cities, upper 60s in oakland. the half moon bay reading is check at about 70 feet. we are looking at warmer weather with that wind, allowing for the air to be well-mixed. it's the cooler air that drains into the valleys or just to the lower elevations and that's where we have the 50s.

and even the 40s from mt. tam. very pretty shot for you. but that's where we have the cooler weather up in the north bay with 44 in santa rosa. 50 in novato with mid-50s. 52 livermore. we are looking a the a clear start to the day. sunny and warm afternoon. not only here in san francisco. temperatures about ten degrees above arrange for everyone today and tomorrow. so the cool weather this morning, translating into a warm weekend once again with widespread 80ths. cooler weather, though, heads our way on monday with notable cooling on tuesday. and we could even see a few raindrops come midweek. we are starting off once again with high pressure in the upper levels in the atmosphere and at the surface. with the trough along the coast, that brings the warm air inland all the way to the shoreline. so very little temperature variation from the coast to our inland east bay. here's when things are going to get a little interesting as we go through the week ahead. we will still have the 80s

tomorrow in oakland, but then by monday we are dropping about six degrees. it's tuesday we are just baúely at 70 degrees. and then by wednesday and thursday the coolest days of the week, but extra cloud cover and a slight chance of showers. we are looking at a beautiful day across the bay. do be careful. talking high fire danger and a red flag warning for southern california around san diego, orange counties. numbers well into the 80s there and the gusty santa ana winds. further north still warm but we can do without the winds and we are lucky enough to have that in the forecast today. across the bay area, still look at the numbers. in the upper 80s. santa cruz 82. could be warmer half moon bay. and fremont today with low 80s. but no matter where you go, you will see plenty of blue sky with numbers in and around the mid-80s. especially up in the north bay, the east bay. how about san jose at 85 degrees? so if you are headed over to

oakland, despite the evening games, still going to be very warm. but temperatures will drop quickly once that sun sets at 6:46. 70s to the upper 60s for the a's. and we are looking at the texans tomorrow at candlestick with a pretty late game. temperatures in the mid-70s to the mid-60s and, of course, the raiders playing even later and that will be a little cooler into the 60s by later in the evening. but we are looking at 80s today. tomorrow a slight sea breeze by late in the day. monday and tuesday a little cooler. big-time cooling tuesday into wednesday with increasing clouds, chance of a shower and the accuweather seven-day forecast brings the numbers back up slowly thursday and friday. a little last gasp of summer for you this weekend. >> thank you, lisa in sports, three hits and 16 strikeouts is not the recipe for
