going upstairs to where the talks are happening. the lieutenant governor believes a deal can happen tonight. this make or break bargaining session called for lots of ice and water deliveries. today there were signs from the union that once chilly negotiations were beginning to thaw. >> a number of the supplemental issues are getting resolved. we're having good discussions about the economics. we have not reached an agreement yet, but if the parties are open and we are creative, i think we can reach an agreement. >> we are ready. the unions have made significant modifications so that we can get a deal. but it's still beneficial to our members, and still beneficial to the riding public. reporter: will it be enough to avoid a strike monday morning? the lieutenant governor, who was sitting in on talks, believes a deal is close. >> it would be preposterous for both sides at this stage when you're getting this close, to

put at risk your reputation and the economy of the entire region. reporter: for b.a.r.t. riders, another stressful sunday, wondering if trains will roll for the monday commute. >> i think the b.a.r.t. thing is just a reflection of what is happening in the government. i think all the things to just disagree and see how long we can disagree. >> you can't reach a decision tonight, grout more people doing it in 30. you got more people doing in ten. it's past 60 days. come on, man, gift it together -- get it together. >> the negotiator for b.a.r.t. arrived two hours ago, several members of the b.a.r.t. board. he felt optimistic. we'll bring any developments to you live. >> transit workers having the work to strike doesn't sit well with some people. ore linda city councilman is one

of them. he was at the b.a.r.t. station trying to persuade riders to sign his petition banning transit strikes. he says the few shouldn't impact the lives of so many. >> if they can't work it out, they shouldn't take it out on the riders in the bay area. there's too much at stake for hundreds of thousands of people who use b.a.r.t. every day to have a break down at the bargaining table fake us. >> number city, chicago, do not allow transit strikes. >> if there is a strike, b.a.r.t. managers have been trying to run some trains and the district will charter 200 buses. the service is between nine east bay bart stations and downtown san francisco. you can catch a bus between 5:00 and 8:00 a.m. at various stations. evening service from san francisco back to those stations

cleanup is underway across parted of india after being hit by a powerful cyclone. strong winds snapped trees, toppled power lines and overturned cars. heavy rains and storm surge triggered flooding. more than a dozen people were killed in the storm and hundreds of thousands of others are still in emergency shelter. the storm maintained landfall last night with 140 miles-per-hour winds. new video from washington state where at least four people were arrested in a student riot. it happened last night near the campus of western washington university. police say officers tried to break up a house party that spilled into the streets. police used pepper balls, smoke, and flash bang grenades while students threw bottles and cans. no one was seriously hurt. ahead on abc7 news, we are live outside the b.a.r.t. talks in oakland. right now unions and b.a.r.t. management are negotiating. we're monitoring the situation and will bring you any develops during the newscast.

the coast close to 80 degrees. you can see from our satellite radar come -- composite. the cloud that brought showers have pushed east and all of this is replaced by higher pressure, which actually means we had onshore winds the past self days. they'll be sifting as the high builds in. clockwise circulation, so winds will be coming out from land to sea. so the wind shift will mean temperatures will be rising, especially along the coast, as we get the down-sloping winds. here's what i'm talking about this week. beginning in oakland tomorrow, you're going to be 75 degrees. check out wednesday, the warmest day, already into the 80s, and even in san jose, you'll be at 77 tomorrow. but your warmest day will be wednesday, and then temperatures start to come down saturday and sunday. lows tonight, still in the upper 40s. maybe a few low 50s.
