6:24 am
trucks are not closer to put more water on the fire. the first things you notice is the frame, the outside of this building isn't burning as quickly as the interior. that could mean this is masonry construction and it is not going up like the inside. also, you notice how far away the fire trucks are, almost half a block away and that is stopping or embodying firefighter efforts. we have been told that this is a gated parking lot, as well, with action set to this willing so that may also be keeping firefighters out. >> it look like the fire engines are on woodside road which is wide. only the narrow part of this long apartment complex is actually right on woodside so most of it extends further in and this is the middle of the complex on fire and that part, as you said, is gated and you have the narrow twists and turns
6:25 am
through an apartment complex and it is difficult for them to get the engines in there. right now it continues to rage and it is five alarms and there are multiple injuries and it is called a multicasualty event. here is near a safeway and access to 280 which you cannot get there. both directions in that yeah are -- in that area are shut down. you have to look for another entry point to 280. leyla gulen will talk about that. >> look at the definition of multicasualty insurance dented, that defines an incident in which the number of casualties threatens to strain or overwhelm the amount of emergency help you can get there. we do not have any numbers, but we know there are some injured. when we get the numbers we will bring it. the fire continues to burn and they seem to be putting very little water on it and that is a
6:26 am
matter of proximity. they cannot get close enough to put a lot of water on it. >> right now, san mateo county emergency has put out an alert to everyone to talk about how woodside road is closed to hudson street in redwood city and they are call this a multialarm fire and they will send out more information. >> the morning news continues at 6:30 with the top stories. >> no bart strike this morning, another one of our major stories, with marathon sessions last might and where talks stand this morning. >> from the exploritorium camera, notice how smooth the wear is this morning, high pressure is back and it will keep us warmer-than-average for a while and i have cooler weather on the way in the seven-day forecast. >> in the abc7 news traffic center we are tracking the apartment fire in redwood city and i will tell you that a major thorough rare that connects 101

winds that are the key. the winds are blowing out to the northeast right along 84 and that is why you are seeing the heaviest smoke drift over to 101 so if you live northeast of this particular area you are going to be dealing with the smoke and we have an inverse, warmer here sit ting on top of cool air, which is stable and that will not allow the smoke to mix in the atmosphere. because of that we will see a lot smoke out there. weather-wise it will be in the 70's and 80's once again. >> mike, thank you for that explanation. katie is on the ground. katie? >> i got the fire marshals from redwood city in san san carlos and he will tell us the story. you got the call of a structure fire at 5:15. >> correct, we received multiple 9-1-1 calls of a structure fire
