bart and the unions were unable to hammer out a contract agreement before workers walked off the job. we have coverage starting with abc7 news reporter, matt keller, on the picket lines. >> a couple more striking workers showed up. they have been picketing since 4:00 this morning. they are going all day long. what you will not see, though, is running trains. the last train running came to a stop at the fremont bart station this morning. how did a week of intense negotiations end with a strike? talks broke down after 30 hours of negotiations. the members were on board with wages and pinks but can now agree to work rules. i spoke with a union worker about what he would like to say to the riders. >> i am so sorry. we do not want to see this happen. we hope they make it to work

safe and come home safe to be with their families. >> i would like to come back out here with police officers escorting a man from the scene here. there are four police officers and a man. he calm up and said he was trying to get to work and was upset at the bart protesters. the striking workers. he picked up a cone and threw it so they are taking him into custody. you can see the workers of still striking. they are adamant about being out here and will not let one person take away from the picketing lines. bart management says the work rules would give them the right to make decisions of staffing overtime and work assignments and workers say it could unfair work assignments. >> thank you, matt. now the commute with leyla gulen. >> there are alternate ways of

getting around. we have supplemental service including san francisco bay ferry and sfo shuttle, and west cal, so tune it to our website for all the details. we have the entire lineup of options available so you can see how you will get from point a to point b. we do have plenty of traffic especially if you are headed through oakland and over the bridge. the altamont pass is packed through tracy into livermore and toward dublin. highway four through antioch is a pain. we had an early report of a stalled vehicle westbound side of bay bridge as you make the exit from the tunnel it looks like that is cleared and it is out of the lanes and now we are just jammed. 25 minutes gets you in the westbound direction. 580 is looking better so if you take the round about way it takes through the not bay and

across the golden gate bridge and you are seven minutes from richard to san -- from richmondo san rafael. from emeryville camera looking to the bay bridge, it is packed making the commute in the westbound direction of the mike? >> i am feeling bad for all of those people there. it is going to be tough. here is our live doppler 7 hd you can see exactly what is going on as far as the cloud cover. we talked how the clouds will develop along the coast and visibility is lower by the my at half moon bay. about two miles. any clouds that make it beyond the coast are going to stay in san francisco through 7:00. we will be sunny by noon and 68. and 65 during the evening hours. we will see stars and need a light jacket. inland neighborhoods, we are the same as it has been for the week and chilly and in the 40's but warming by 30 degrees already by noon and mid-70's and topping out at 80 by 4:00 and tall back

it took 35 minutes to get to the city and the bridge was starting to get busy. that is for information to file away for future reference if this strike continues. these buss are shuttling people from east bay to san francisco, from 5:00 to 8:00 a.m. this morning and they bring you hope from 3:00 to 7:00 and although the crowds do not seem too bad people seem rushed. >> i am frustrated. very frustrated. every day and i just stopped checking the news. i am just frustrateed. >> here are the stations to catch the buses: el cerrito, west oakland, concord, walnut creek, lafayette, dublin/pleasanton, san leandro, hayward, and fremont. look at what the agents are doing, the bart workers. they are handing out passes to the people climbing on board. the passes are the ticket to get

home. you should not expect to be able to grab a bus this afternoon out of the city if you did not take the u.s. into the city. it is round try experience. the hope is to get 6,000 people accommodated today on the buses. bart usually handles 400,000 people a day so this shouldn't going to cover it but they hope to make a difference. >> the bart strike continues the west g.d.p. avenue approach to the bay bridge in oakland will be converted to h.o.v. lane for transit buses so only buses, car poolers and commercial trucks will be allowed to use the on-ramp to the bay bridge for the duration of the bart strike. a.c. transit plans to run more buses during the time and deploy larger buses for traps bay -- for transbay buses. >> caltrains will stop at the millbrae station to pick up passengers that can park for free at the bart station there.

at walnut creek and we are at nine minute commute and this is her than normal but, really, nine minutes gets you from highway 4 to the 24 junction. >> the temperatures are in the mid-to-upper 40's in the san ramon valley specifically walnut creek at 47, and same in concord and warmer at brentwood and pittsburg at 50 there and in half yet. we will start in the not bay: low 40's. a lot of low 50's an the bay shore until you get to mountain view at 53. fremont is 48. san jose is 50. the same with hayward and san francisco. 51 in los gatos and 46 degrees. the week ahead if san jose, we are starting out with temperatures above average today, sunday, monday and tuesday and closer to average wednesday, thursday and friday. it is a minimal pattern change but we will be dry for the

it is a rough friday morning commute without bart running. we have a special feature, the corner box, you can see right now we have abc7 news engineer dick epstein is stuck at metering light. you can keep track by watching the small box in the corner. without bart trains running, waterways are filling up and the highways. nick is at the ferry landing in oakland. nick, how does it look? >> pretty good. commuters have started to arrive early. i accosted my guess. you usually take bart. how did you ajust your schedule? >> i got up an hour and a half early than usual. i am having to do that because if they were running trains based on management, i would take the ferry anyway because the workers are right. >> talk to me. what do you want bart do know?

>> i want bart to know that i think it is unfair they put this last minute rule change in the contract when both agreed on all the compromises in terms of compensation and why is it at the last minute you put if all the chains which is going to effectively eliminate workers rights on the job. it is ludicrous. >> you are not a liberal with an agenda? >> a radical. >> get to work safely. what we have learned is that commuters are on both sides of the issue. what we are doing as we want the commuters to know as they come to the ferry landing and take the ferry to san francisco they immediate to purchase a ticket before boarding. i spoke to other commuters at 6 :30 we will introduce you to some of them. >> thank you, nick. no buying tickets when you are

on the ferry. you have to purchase tickets before. >> and you may have noticed one of the fog horns on the golden gate bridge was stuck so a continuous alert for a full hour and people were calling 9-1-1 and some of them claiming aliens were attacking the city. >> not yet. mars is not attacking yet. they unplugged it and that is why the sound went off. >> a look at traffic. no fog horns involved in the traffic. here is leyla gulen. >> even the fog horns are upset about the strike. we could hear a few regular horns on the road. i hope everyone is respecting everyone else and realizes we are in this together. back to the altamont pass, we do have this report of an accident westbound 580 at greenville road and it is blocking one lane. we have a bit of backup and it looks like the other traffic we had over the altamont pass is slowly easing up.

we are praying that it will be a friday light and we will keep our fingers crossed. i looked at our waze app and it sounds to be minor. if you are headed between walnut creek to dublin it is clear. 101 from san francisco is nice. through the santa cruz mountains, not too bad. we have sky 7 other the richmond-san rafael bridge and look how empty it is. it is wide open. the cars are making their way through the toll plaza. you and see where the cars are going and they are making the commute in the westbound direction and it would be nice to get that perspective, it is a much better drive than over the bay bridge and now taking at least 30 minutes to head in the westbound direction from the maze and across into the city. this will take a huge amount of instruction off of your shoulders, a nice beautiful commute in the westbound direction. we have company out there but

mateo county district attorney has come to a decision about who to file charges in the death of a passenger run over by a fire truck. the 16-year-old died after being hit by a rig drive were by a san francisco fighter who was responding to the disaster. the announcement is spotted today. >> a paroleee sex offender is under arrest for the murder of an oak federal investigator. the 56-year-old was booked open multiple charges including murder, vehicle theft, and grand theft. he is accuses of killing his former girlfriend, a 50-year-old who disappeared in august. her body was later found in a park near vacaville. police believe she was with him the night she disappeared. he is due in court today. >> after several days of threat bart workers go on strike. what the union members are saying as commuters face a difficult day trying to get across the bay. >> it is getting busy at the

plaza, it is wide only and cars are funneling in beautifully and you are at top speed into san rafael and if you need to make the round about through marin county to the golden gate bridge at 13 minutes. 13 minute commute across the bridge and another 13 minute those get into the city. you can beat that. now to the bay bridge toll plaza where look at that. why sit in all of that traffic? it is 20 minutes away from the maze into san francisco. try to avoid it. it looks like it is by december -- it is more busy than a while ago but 13 minutes get you there from foster city. >> we are tracking the clouds along the coast and those spilling across the lower elevations. that is as far east as they made

the buses are not too pleased. >> disappointing and sad the negotiators could not come to a distinction. i do not like being imposed. there has to be a better solution. i think they are well paid. >> here are the stations, the bart staigs where the buses are provided: el cerrito, west oakland, concord, walnut creek, lafayette who just sent a couple buses over here to walnut creek because their crowds did not materialize, dublin/pleasanton, san lenadro, hayward and fremont. another option at the bart stations if you do not want to wait, is the car pool option. keep that in mind. however, i need to explain this with the visual aid. though are getting coupon tickets as they board. that is the ticket back home. the buses run from 3:00 to 7:00 this afternoon. you can fought get on the b.s. without a ticket.

the shoulder. it was blocking a lane but you can see the red indicating traffic that is bunching up and beyond the tolls you are at top speeds and it will take only 13 minutes to head into foster city. also, the richmond and senator ralph bridge we had sky seven over that and wide open there and another sovereign minute commute. if you want to avoid the bay bridge and the maze area where it is packed, take the richmond-san rafael. 13 minutes gets you across to the north bay and 13 minutes from 580 to the city. mike? >> now what is going on this weekend. we have a big festival not only in quantity difficult but -- quantity in half moon bay that hops at 9:00 with patchy fog and 52 and mid-to-upper 40's during the breakfast. close to average temperatures but a lot of sunshine and a

light breeze. traveling around the state, the temperatures show low-to-mid 80's through the central valley and increasing sunshine. 77 in san diego. 91 in palm springs. to the sierra, some of the snow-capped peaks are being undercut by fall leaves which is gorgeous. it is peaking this weekend. temperatures are in the mid-to-upper 60's but freezing cold at night. >> developing news on the peninsula with an early morning house fire in east palo alto at a home at 2:00 this morning. investigators say it looks like the fire started in the back of the home in an attic and spread to the rest of house and the house next door. a firefighter is being treated for an energy. the cause is under investigation. >> trading is underway on wall street and lady we will go to
