>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> good morning, at 4:30. it is monday. day four of the bart strike. thanks for joining us. >> ness conserve investigators are look at what led to an accident that killed two bart workers on saturday. nick is at the lake merritt bart station in oakland with the latest. nick? >> good morning. we were there when ntsb investigators arrived yesterday. we were there when they pulled the train away. this morning at lake merritt bart station union members continue to hold the line. last night, bart employees at walnut creek and lake merritt stations stood together in solidarity and held a moment of silence to honor the two men who lost their lives afterening hit by a bart train on saturday.

the victims were identified at larry daniels and a member of the union. >> my co-workers were tears and we didn't know the person involved but you work in that environment and know the ramifications each day. >> chris was a senior track engineer and worked for bart three years. bart officials say he and daniels were inspecting the tracks near walnut creek and a bart train on a maintenance run hit and killed them. ntsb is leading the investigation and will be in walnut creek inspecting the train and records for the next few days. the operator of the train could be interviewed today. ntsb hope to have that stage, the first phase of the investigation, wrapped up in the next ten days. now the latest on the bart

talks. the board will hold a special meeting this afternoon to discuss the strike and negotiations. the labor strike now enters the fourth day. the two biggest unions delivered a counter proposal to managers including changes to work place rules. no negotiations are now scheduled. >> time to look at the traffic. leyla gulen, how is it looking? >> mass transit is rolling. ace train one is on time. ace train three will roll at 5:45. action track is providing bus service from several stops in san francisco to emeryville with train connections. we have other mass transit agencies trying to pick up the slack. if you are hitting the roads there are areas of construction, with lanes and connections blocked off. from emeryville camera looking

in the east bay. 68 to 75 at the bay. the clouds are stubborn in san francisco and up to 66. kristen and matt? >> many commuters expect to pass the bart stations -- pack the bart stations with shuttles. what is happening, amy? >> kristen, look at this line. it has grown five times the size it was 30 minutes ago. these people are waiting for a 5:00 bus, a free shuttle bart is providing. they. get to the city quickly. friday, this bus took only 40 minutes to get to the city. people are finding themselves in the city at 5:40, very early, for their jobs. >> i need to be at work at 8:30.

my first 90 days at work and i don't want to be late and call my boss the first 90 days and say i can't make it. >> this is early for 8:30 start. >> it is frustrateing. yesterday i was with my family to spend some time with them and had to cut it short because of this. >> he gets to the office and takes a nap. if you would like to take a bus they are available at nine bart stations. they will run from 5:00 a.m. until 8:00 in the morning and they bring people home between 3:00 and 7:00. it is a round-trip offering. you cannot just take it one way. the rough part of the day is taking it hope. i asked a woman how it went on friday and she said she got on the 3:00 bus on friday and it took her two hours to get to walnut creek.

>> painful. >> the bart strike continues, the approach to the bay bridge from oakland will be converted to h.o.v. lane so buses and commercial trucks and car poolers can use the west grand avenue on-ramp to the bay bridge for the strike. a.c. transit will run more buses during the strike and deploy larger buses for transbay service. buses will provide limited service from san mateo county bart stations. caltrains will stop at millbrae to pick up passengers who park free at bart station. >> others are turning to ferries to get across the bay. jonathan is at the jack london square terminal to see how it is going in oakland. >> ferry service employees are putting out special signs for the special commute. the folks who are showing up here early are getting in line.

this is the quiet before the storm. seven commuters are getting in line. if you want to look at the video from friday, it will be a crush of people lining up for the ferries leaving every 45 minutes from the terminal in oakland. first boat is 5:30, next at 6:00 and 45 minutes thereafter. they are running four extra boats but that will not make up for the extra capacity. they have told riders it will be a first-come-first-serve situation and those who usually ride the ferry are not guaranteed until they show up really early. you may want to know if you are coming to take the ferry they will not sell tickets on the boat but you have to buy them on advance or have cash on your clipper card. if you leave the city to come to oakland you can buy tickets on the boat. the folks leaving here today

sent to investigate and if they looked for the body. it is not clear why the hospital did not follow-up on the report. we will have more on the mystery of her death on "good morning america" this morning at 7:00. >> several families will look for new places to live after an apartment building fire in walnut creek. flamed ripped through the apartment complex. fire started before 2:00 yesterday morning. it does not appear to be suspicious. no one was injured. the flames destroyed a total of six units. >> the absence of fire sprinklers was a factor in the spread of last thursday morning's fire in redwood city. sprinklers were not required in the complex build before 1963 like tens of thousands of other apartment buildings. the head of a state apartment owners group says landlords are reluctant to retrofit the

buildings with sprinkler systems because of the cost. officials say large buildings without sprinklers represent a significant hazard to occupants and firefighters especially those with floors more than 75' above ground. >> if you are headed to the beach, the national both service says strong rip currents will make for trenchous conditions from sonoma to monterey county through tomorrow afternoon. you are warned to watch out for sneaker waves that can reach further up the beach. >> leyla gulen, it is early. how bad is it? >> not quite so pad. we are here anticipating a busy morning. as you look behind me we have lots of green indicating we have top speeds on all of our roads. here is a sampling of the

trip usually takes 45 minutes and it took an hour and 45 minutes and i took a wrong turn and it took me 20 minutes to circle the block. is it trouble getting back into the city to enjoy the nice life...that is a problem. you can see the embarcardero center, all gray. only the east bay valleys are clear. everyone else is gray. the spread is 46 to 53. clouds open around the bay by noon. it is still stubborn at the coast. our spread is fairly seasonal, 64 at coast to 80 inland so cooler-than-average. by 7:00, clouds return and 54 at the coast to 70 inland. the next three days, tomorrow is a lot like today and today and tomorrow is the warmest, wednesday and thursday, a slow cooling trend. i will show you the weekened forecast coming up.

the westbound traffic comes out of the tunnel and hits highway 24 headed to the maze. i will pop on to highway 24 on the on-ramp. you can see the issue is thing for. it is down to the deck. you can see the tail lights. you can see the traffic. it is impairing your vision. as far as the traffic is concerned, i am seeing a steady build. we have the beginning of what is going to be a substantial commute if a very short while. the spacing of the traffic is good but it is getting heavier on westbound highway 24 coming up to the maze. the caution here is the fog. matt? kristen? >> thank you, dick. marin county residents can get rid of old tires at two free recycling locations until november 1. tires left in backyards or rural

and now down to half-a-mile visibility. we have cloud cover along the bay shore. clear in livermore. temperatures in belmont are 52 and palo alto is 53, the warm spot. men let park -- menlo park is 49. redwood city is coolest at 46. 50 at half moon bay. san francisco and san carlos and hayward and concord at 50. now a look at the eastern span of the bay bridge, you can see it is cut off by low clouds. we will have flight arrival delays at sfo. they will let us know we in about another hour. clouds on the coast. a slow cooling trend for the week but the wet weather will stay over the ocean and another seven days of dry weather. temperatures are a spread from

low-to-mid 60's along the coast and upper 60's to 70's for the bay shore and fremont is 73 and palo alto. mid-70's around san jose and mid-to-upper 70's in the north bay. concord and livermore in the upper 70's to mid-80's. tonight we are not mid-40's to 50's with thickest fog in the north bay mostly with cloud cover. the low pressure is off the shore that enhances the sea breeze through at least thursday. in the seven-day forecast, you notice that thursday into friday are coolest after today and tomorrow being the warmest. >> same-sex marriages are taking place in new jersey after midnight becoming the 14 the state to recognize gay marriage. the republican governor appeared the implementation of the same-sex marriage but the top court on friday refused to delay it while the court sores out the case. officials opened the office so

on the right side of the picture the fast track lanes are moving at 9 speed limit. the metering lights are not on. i can tell you on highway 24 to the bridge there is fog on 24 coming from the tunnel. you can see brake lights slowing after you take the exit off 24 to the 580 split where everyone gets in the lane to head in whatever direction on 580 they want to head to. it is a typical backup on the morning commute. it is starting early this morning. >> as we might expect. senator schumer is pushing for all new cars to be built with rear view cameras. he says the cameras could help prevent deadly backover crashes. he maps to fight government delays in implementing a law passed by congress five years
