livermore valley, low 60s half moon bay to start. we are looking clear tonight but changes are on the way for the second half of the weekend and we are looking at the possibility of showers coming our way. i will have that in a few minutes. katie. >> thank you, lisa. we have developing news out of campbell. >> there was a shotting in a nightclub. police say security employees from a nightclub approached a group in the parking lot and asked them to turn down their music. at some point a 33-year-old employee was shot. he was taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive. the group got away in two different vehicles described as light-colored newer-model four-door sedan and dark late 90s chevy camaro. also developing news this morning. an hour's long standoff has ended between authorities and a man with a gun. he's accused of shooting four law enforcement officers near sacramento. they say a parolee, daniel, shot

a federal immigration officer and three police officers in roseville yesterday afternoon. police say he surrendered peacefully to authorities just after 12:30 this morning. he was hold up for nine hours. one officer still remains in serious condition. the other three are expected to fully recover. this morning three menlo park teenagers are mourning the loss of their parents. they were killed by a drunk driver while walking the family dog. police say the two were on the street when a car hit them from behind. driver was arrested for dwi. >> we have more on the memorial being held for the victims. >> three teenage children of this couple gathered with friends and family at the site of their family tragedy. the couple were hit and killed on choko street by a driver the police say was drunk. >> it's crazy. it's surreal. >> they are devastated by the loss of their parents. they chose to share their grief with abc7 news to inspire others

not to drink or drive. >> we don't have anybody to look up to. we didn't expect anything to happen. we are all alone. >> they were killed just before 7:00 p.m. while on their nightly walk with their dog. they were in the bike lane when the driver struck them from behind. >> when two people are out on a walk with their dog and their lives are snuffed out in an instant, it's horrific. >> police say the driver who killed the couple is 54 year march jari of redwood city. >> we took a blood test yesterday and it will take about two weeks to come back with the results. according to court records, she has a long history of arrests. she was convicted of misdemeanor dui last year. she two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of felony dui. >> i wish she would stop drinking and driving because obviously we lost our parents because of that and we don't want that to happen to anybody else. >> she's never going to be

forgiven. we lost our parents because of her. >> she will i arraigned on monday. a woman accused of driving under the influence, hitting three visually impaired people in berkeley, and speeding away, now facing felony hit-and-run charges. place say 53-year-old woman from oakland ran into the pedestrian at shattuck avenue and hayes street thursday and took off and hit another car. none of the pedestrians were seriously hurt. the police say she also had meth on her. the fbi said it will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting death of 13-year-old andy lopez. on tuesday lopez was shot seven times by a deputy who mistook the teenager's plastic rifle for a real ak-47. [chanting "we want justice"] hundreds of his schoolmates and others marched to the sonoma county sheriff's office yesterday.

the deputy is a 24-year-old veteran of the department. new details in the disappearance of a patient who was later found dead at san francisco general hospital. the san francisco chronicle now reporting the hospital made four requests to the sheriffs deputy to comb the hospital for lynn spalding, who vanished from her room on september 21. the building engineer found her on october 28th while inspecting the stairwell. they have told the family the employee alerted the nurse he saw a person lying in the stairwell on october 24th. -- october 4th. >> and they were so shocked they saw a body in the stairwell between the third and fourth floor that they ran away and haven't been seen sense. this is obviously someone that the san francisco sheriff's department would like to find and ask questions. >> about 150 people honored spalding during a memorial last night, including relatives from her native england. happening today, a memorial will be held for a worker who was killed while unloading a truck at levi stadium. today's memorial for 60-year-old

edward lake junior memorial will be held at 1:00 in vacaville. he died on october 14th after a bundle of rebar he was loading fell on to him. he was a truck driver in napa. it is the second at levi stadium. another worker died in june after he was hit by a counter weight in an elevator shaft. a judge has denied the request of condemned serial killer joseph naso to delay his sentencing hearing. our media partner, the marin independent journal reports he asked the judge for a delay in the hearing so he could have more time to prepare. a jury unanimously ruled he should get the death penalty in the connection of the murders of four women. the county is seeking reimbursement of more than $128 thousand dollars in legal costs from his assets. no major problems to report from a demonstration marking the second anniversary of the occupy oakland movement. about 60 protesters marched

downtown and rallied where they spoke out against police brutality. earlierier they rallied in front of the downtown marriott where law enforcement is staging a anti-terrorism lesson called urban shield. they say it teaches brutal tactics to use against anti-war protesters. >> it's these protests that led to war veterans almost getting killed by the police. or almost getting killed. >> that's a falsehood. first of all, we don't do any training in regards to crowd control like it's been alleged. >> the rallies were finished about 8:00 last night. san jose acting police chief is going to get the job permanently. the acting chief has been appointed to replace retiring chief chris moore in january. the city manager said during his tenure the city's gang suppression unit has been resurrected. resulting in a customer crack down on gang activity. she hopes to put the appointment

before the city council in late november. >> parents are hayward are making themselves heard on an issue they believe will hurt their families. kaiser permanente is under fire for a plan to close the pediatrics ward in the city in a month. we have a look at both sides of this controversy. >> she is pretty good at connecting the dots on her coloring book. but when she was just a few days old, she had to spend extra time at kaiser permanente in hayward. her dad said having a local hospital took a lot. >> being with our neighbors, our family, close to our home, it took a traumatic situation to our family and made it more manageable. >> they are going to shut down the hospital and move to a new one next summer. during a town hall meeting, nurses raised concerns to officials after they learned that pediatrics would be shut down in about a month >> we thought we would be dealing with this about a year down the road and it would give us time to aler the public of the dangers. >> for some parents this was a

shock. >> i'm speechless right now to think that there's going to be nothing. and except in santa clara and all the way in oakland. and then if they are full, all the way to roseville? >> when the pediatrics department closes on november 17th, children who need to be admitted will be sent to kaiser in oakland. a vice president for kaiser permanente said they are shutting down the facility here in about a month so they can transition their whole medical team up to oakland so they can be trained together as a team and be ready for their new facility to open up next summer. kaiser promises a bigger, better children's department in oakland with specialized care. >> studies show that children do better in facilities and centers that are specifically designed for them. >> tom said most pediatric care is provided at family doctors offices and those aren't moving. abc7 news. >> 6:09 on your saturday morning. lisa, some great news for us? >> yes, the warmer day of the weekend has arrived, that's today. so that means not as warm

>> foster farms said it is working with authorities to restore its chicken exports to mexico. as we told you thursday night. the mexican government has banned foster farms chicken products from three plants where salmonella was detected a week ago. there was never any recall on those products. they said they have cleaned up the plants and put new procedures into place company wide. in a statement yesterday the company said they are working to fully resolve any concerns and demonstrate the safety of our chicken products when handled and cooked properly. kraft is voluntarily recalling their kraft and string cheese because it may spoil before the expiration date. about 735,000 cases of the products was shipped across the u.s.

they have the best when used by dates from october 25th to february 11th. customers should not eat the product and return it for an exchange or refund. a former methodist bishop from san francisco is be to defy his church by performing a gay wedding ceremony. he plans to marry two men today. the center for investigative reporting that provided the video, he will become the most prominent clergy member to defy his church's ban on same sex marriages. he said it will cause complaints possibly divide his church, but his goal is to address hypocrisy in a denomination that includes thousands of gay parishioners and even gay pastors. complaints have been filed against at least six other methodist ministers across the country. they could be defrocked for performing saim sex marriages.

at the possibility of a little shower activity headed our way. so today sunny and mild. a chance of showers. here it is for monday. it will be cooler, in fact, as much as 10 degrees cooler on monday. dry, though, as we round out the month. trick-or-treaters on thursday. we will have conditions on the cool side. but it should be a pleasant afternoon. so here's look at our radar in satellite composite. an area of low pressure brought us higher clouds yesterday. it continues far enough offshore it really isn't impacting us except for the high clouds. they will continue to clear on out today. high pressure wins out with a mild and sunny afternoon. a weak system heads our way tomorrow. kicks up the winds throughout the evening hours. yet another system heads our way coming down from the north on monday. the counterclockwise flow around this could spin some showers our way into the mountains. the sierra nevada, in fact snow levels could be as low as 5,000 feet with this system. they are anticipating snow

around mammoth. so for much of the bay area,we will look for the cloudy skies, the cooler conditions monday. much cooler t looks like the central coast and parts of the south bay will be the best chance to get some shower activity. so we will keep it in the chance category for monday. 75 in santa clara, as well as in milpitas today. on the peninsula, sunny skies. 64 pacifica. so a mild and sunny afternoon are the sunset district, san francisco, 70ed to. upper 70s santa rosa. about 83, well to the north. look for 73 in hayward with 76 in castro valley. you head inland, we will see temperatures in and around the 80-degree mark from antioch and fairfield and pleasanton and 79 san ramon. the accuweather seven-day forecast, temperatures cooler and breezier the second half of the weekend. slight chance of showers monday. slowly recovering wednesday, halloween and friday with more typical and afternoon

bay to the east bay valleys. but by this afternoon, the rest of the bay area warming up nicely. in fact, with sunny skies at our coast. low to the mid-60s, maybe even upper 60s up toward point reyes. around the bay look for a high in the mid-70s around oakland and castro valley. but inland we should tap out once again near 80 degrees. changes come as soon as tomorrow. i'll have those for you ask maybe a little rain for the beginning of the week coming up, katie. >> thanks, lisa. new details this morning. we are learning bart managers fought for years to hold on to a controversial policy to make workers responsible for their own safety. "mercury news" reports despite fines and warnings from state regulators and unions following a 2008 fatality linked to the policy, bart stuck with it. this week the transit agency indefinitely suspended the policy days after two workers were killed by a bart train while inspecting tracks in walnut creek. state lawmakers say they will hold a hearing next month on bart workers safety.

meanwhile members of bart's two biggest unions will vote friday for a tentative agreement under the four year new contract. they will get a 15.4% raise over four years and pay $129 a month for health coverage, up from $92, and they will start contributing to their pensions, reaching 4% in the fourth year. if both unions approve the agreement, bart's board of directors will vote on it either during it's regularly-scheduled meeting on the 21st, or a special meeting before then. the project to replace doyle drive, the approach to the golden gate bridge, won't be finished for three years. but the work is starting to take place here. it's a massive undertaking and a necessary one for seismic safety. for an inside look you will only get here on abc7 news. here's transportation reporter heather ishimaru. >> landscaping is a huge part of this project, the final landscaping.

there are native soils they have removed. they are stored on sight because they will be reused when they cover the tunnels up and landscape them. >> engineers are concentrating on the twin main post tunnels now, hoping to get as much work done as possible before the rainy season. this will be the southbound tunnel adjacent to the presidio's main post. the tunnel construction happens in distinct phases. first excavation, followed by stabilization of the marshland soil. >> you actually take cement and make it good a ground, inject it into the soil and it mixes and gives you the deep soil mix to stabilize the condition. >> then base rock is laid down. concrete goes on top of that, followed by water proving. those sheets are water proving membranes. more steal rebar and concrete to build up the road bed and followed by rebar rising up in the first step of building tunnel walls. when done, they will be covered up with the native soils and landscapes.

it provides an uninterrupted view and pedestrian access to the bay. >> this block will extend you will go over the roadway and then it will drop at grade. you can walk from the main post to crissy marsh. >> follow the bright light on this animation as it flies over doyle drive, showing the transformation. as the roads are replaced with tunnels, cars disappear underground. you cover the cars, you hide them, it's quieter and then you have all the additional parkland. >> at the other end, close to the golden gate bridge, there will be a viaduct or bridge side-by-side to the new one already this use. it, too, will connect into a tunnel. work on that tunnel is also underway. the completed new doyle drive is scheduled to open sometime in 2016. heather ishimaru, abc7 news. >> knew this morning, barking in downtown walnut creek could soon cost double what it does now.

parking garages from 50 cents to one dollar an hour. the city is considering charging for parking on sunday, as well as extending meter hours by two hours. the council is set to take up the issue in december. parents know the term s.t.e.m. when it comes to education. it's an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. yesterday southwesterly businesses and a nonprofit created a stem field trip. 200 students got to tour the tesla motors factory in fremont. lyanne melendez was there. >> they are excited about discovering new things, anxious to learn and curious >> the question is how long did it take to make a car. >> where are these kids and what are they doing? about 200 bay area students were lucky enough to get the

first-ever private tour of the tesla motors factory. >> come on. >> tesla opened its doors to demonstrate how science, technology, engineering and math are used in our daily lives and how new inventions can change lives. but more importantly, tesla and google paired up to show these kids, many from underserved communities, that they, too, can succeed in this field. >> a lot of time kids don't realize they can do these jobs, and, b, science and engineering is one of the greatest jobs in the world. to make the world a better place through invention and innovation. >> goggle brought a self-driving car. >> students found how the car moves on the highway thanks to laser technology and an internal camera. it's interesting for me to see that aspect of electric cars because i don't really know much about electric cars, but it's interesting. >> i like to see the technology and everything.

>> i think it is just amazing and cool to look at and see what you can do with your own two hands. >> a factory isn't the only stem-related place. kim, the brother of tesla's ceo, is about to introduce the kitchen community to northern californian schools. it's a garden where teachers can have outside classes to teach science and math. >> if we can inspire ten out of 200 to have the same level of impact people can have in the technology business, i think we've done our job. >> to top it off, the students were invited to a private screening for the new sci-fi movie. perhaps a best example of then -- the endless possibilities of the high-tech industry. by the way, it only takes a few days to build a tesla. the factory is now making 500 a week. in fremont, lyanne melendez, abc7 news. >> happening today, bay area residents have the chance to get rid of unwanted prescription

commercial crops. abc7 news reporter david louie has the story. >> there's little time for these state crews to waste. the oriental fruit fly is a fast breeder. it means the attack is underway already. it involves bait boxes placed in trees and on utility poles. there's two active ingredients, an attractant that male fruit flies find irresistible, and a minute amount of insecticide to kill them. they are placed high enough not to bother the public. fast action is intended to break a fast breeding cycle. >> the female is not picky about where she lays her eggs. she'll lay her eggs in 230 different kinds of fruits and vegetables. she will live for about three months, and in that lifetime she will lay about 1000 eggs. the maggots are the real problem. you can imagine going to your tomato garden and there's no tomatoes because they are infested from maggots. >> someone brought in fruit from

west asia where it is common or service shipped in getting past agriculture inspectors. the target zone for bait boxes is a ten square mile area. you can expect to see state agriculture trucks in the neighborhood for several weeks. you don't want them eating up your tomatoes? >> i don't want anything-like that in my garden. the base stations lose their potency over time, so they have to be replaced every two weeks. the oriental fruit fly goes dormant during cold weather, but resumes breeding with warmer temperatures. the eradication program might extend into the new year. hundreds of boxes are being deployed. the goal is to place one every 200 feet over the ten-square mile area. in cupertino, david louie, abc news. >> knew this morning, rents in san francisco are on the rise and growing at break-neck speeds. "the chronicle" reports rents broke records in the third quarter, topping $3,000 a month.

valley this morning with 45 in livermore and concord. we are looking at 39 in santa rosa. novato, 37 degrees. so certainly feeling like fall and temperatures from san carlos to livermore are feeling colder. in fact, we are looking at 5 degrees of cooling in hayward. but by this afternoon in hayward, you will be back into the 70s. from our roof camera, highs and clear out there. sunny and mild today. it will be mild for most tomorrow, but the winds are going to kick up. so temperatures won't be as warm certainly by the coast on sunday. then introducing a slight chance of showers mainly from the monterey coast, san jose on monday, but more dramatic temperature drop is what you will notice, as much as 10 degrees cooler. today we are a little bit above normal. we will be dry for the end of the month. halloween thursday, trick-or-treaters. sunny in the afternoon but cool at night. the first system that brought us the higher clouds over the past

couple of days, it is continuing to sink south. so higher pressure continues to bring us a sunny and mild afternoon. we will be looking at an area of low pressure tonight. what that will do, it will increase the pressure gradient, bring gusty winds for the second half of the weekend, manically tomorrow evening. but by more than look how close the rain is. in fact it is right over parts of the bay area. so we are looking at a chance of showers, big time cooling on monday and perhaps snow in the sierra nevada. snow levels down to 5,000 feet. they are anticipating snow for the mountains of southern california. we definitely have changes to begin the week. but today the 80s in sacramento. 82 there. 81 chico. could see an 80 around here. we didn't see yesterday. 68 in monterey. dense fog this morning in southern california. but then 81 degrees for los angeles. so temperatures will be in the upper 60s here. half moon bay, 72. san mateo with 76. in san jose and santa cruz up in

the north bay perhaps an 80-degree temperature. tomorrow for the raiders look for temperatures in the low to mid-60s. a nice afternoon. the look ahead a couple degrees cooler, breezy winds for the second half of the weekend. a slight chance of showers. only 50s and 60s monday. barely any warmup on wednesday. dry thursday and friday. if we see rain it will not help us out too much. >> and we won't see it on halloween so that's kind of good news. >> right. >> thank, lessa. in sports, all three bay area football teams are bat in action today. san jose state hosts wyoming. sixth ranked stanford takes on number 25 oregon state and cal plays at husky stadium. the warriors have one less worry before their opener wednesday night. here's larry beil with the details in this morning's sports. >> good morning.

when steph curry's ankle was still questionable, the warriors signed him to a long-term extension. it paid off big because now he's a budding superstar in the nba. golden state has taken the exact same approach with andrew bogut. the injury-plagued center gets a three-year, extension a few days before the start of a new season. could be worth up to $42 million with incentives. he's been plagued by ankle, elbow and back injuries since they acquired him. $36 million it was an unpopular trade at the time. we saw a glimmer what he can do when he's healthy. the warriors are banking on a lot more of the same going forward. here's general manager bob myers on the decision to lock up bogut, who was entering final year of his contract. >> this is an asset that we didn't want to lose. if it meant betting on that player, we were willing to do that. >> i think, you know, in the market i could probably get more but i think we came to an agreement that was good for both parties.
