the crashing tree disrupted their dinner party last night. >> it's sounding like a train coming through the neighborhood just this loud booming sound. and we had no idea what was it last night a tree fell on to a house. and branches sliced ceiling where a man and baby were sleeping. the tree still rests in the backyard, debris litters the bed. this shot from sky 7 show how's a toppled tree tore up a sidewalk. >> when trees get thick and heavy, they're weighted. winds stop them. >> and parents deal with insurance, young jonathan is enjoying the experience.

sides a rez den you shall building. the fire broke out at 12:30 this afternoon. and fire department tells us one building was gutted and two others are uninhabitable. a couple other buildings received minor damage. 100 firefighters responded to this fire. one was injured after suffering a laceration battling flames. and firefighters in the east bay had to deal with another difficult blaze, this one burning in tall trees and dry brush near san pablo reservoir. small blaze burned near east bay mud water facility. >> well, brother of a woman charged with rung over and killing a couple talked about his sister today. he said she was struggling with alcohol and drug addiction for a long time. we've learned the 54-year-old has a long rap sheet.

td couple was run down and killed on thursday night. vic lee is live with more, vic? >> her rap sheet is two pages long of a couple fell knees but mostly minor offenses driving wout a license, drug paraphernalia in the car, things like that this, shows that she was fighting addiction for a very, very long time. she was supposed to be arraigned here today but the judge saying she she was in the medical ward. her family says she was complaining of chest pain autos just like i did it myself. it's my flesh and blood. the losses we have. >> her brother wants to give condolences to the family of the couple run over in the tragic accident on thursday night.

>> i have more grief for them. they lost someone, she's still here. >> the driver has been charged with vehicular manslaughter under the influence of alcohol and felony drunk driving. the district attorney says she was intoxicated, almost twice the legal limit. >> we have a preliminary blood alcohol level that is well over.15. >> police say the car plowed into the sings, then jumped the center divide, clipping another car, crashing into a tree. ronald visited his sister in jail and says she doesn't know what happened. >> saying i didn't kill no, but whole thing she don't remember nudging. >> she has a long rap sheet going back a quarter century. she's been arrested dozens of times on misdemeanor drug offenses, and driving violations. but only once, for a dui.

a tragedy in san jose after a suspected drunk driver backed up a car and hit and killed her friend. this happened near lee avenue. abc 7 news has the story. >> when i hear something that not standard, i get nervous. >> james heard this. the driver of this silver 2014 ford escape crashing into the beam and panel of this garage with her friend pinned between the suv and the metal frame door. this is how the street looked after police arrive arrived. a quiet neighborhood turned into a crime scene. >> i just heard a thump. >> loud enough for maybes to hear faint noises. they tell me early witnesses were afraid to look out to see

where sounds were coming, from opting to call police who arrived minutes later it appears driver and victim did know each other. police arrested the 27-year-old for driving under the influence. and have confirmed the victim was a passenger in the car only minutes before she was hit and killed. >> we're still trying to confirm id of the driver and the victim at this time. >> crime scene technicians comment the morning collecting evidence. >> it could have been worse. >> because behind the damage, police say that duies can result in deaths or injuries. they say that the driver of today's dui is cooperating with investigators but they're asking anyone with additional information contact the san jose police department.
