it happened around closing time. a man entered the shopping center and started shooting. he was wearing all black and a black and red motorcycle helmet. thousands were able to get out before police locked down the mall. 400 shoppers were stuck inside huddled inside the stores while officers searched for the gunman. ultimately they found him dead after midnight in a back area of the mall in an area under construction. he is identified as 20-year-old richard shoop of new jersey. a note was found pointing to the possibility motive. >> he does have a history of drug use and drug abuse. we do believe the main motive for what he did was suicide whether self inflicted or suicide by cop which no one ever wants to see. >> the prosecution says it does not appear shoop everred to --

anyone. he fired toward the ceiling and an escalator and a store front. the gun he took his life with was a legal .22 caliber rifle altered to look like an ak-47. he stole it from his brother. >> breaking news from denver. two teens are in custody this morning after breaking into a middle school overnight armed with rifles and backpacks. the s.w.a.t. team was called in. officers watched the teens over security cameras and took them into custody. neither rifles or backpacks remain recovered and a bomb squad is sweeping the school. no word whether the school will open this morning. >> pleasant hill city council will better regulate gunshots in the city forcing gun shop owners

to pass a criminal background check. dealers is to install alarm suspects and surveillance video. new gun stores can not be located when 150' of a residence or 1,000' of a daycare center or school. the mayor says the change are needed in this day and able. >> business friendly and we expect other businesses to want to be in our city. this is a way to make sure when someone comes into the city they are acting appropriately. ought council will vote on the measure in two weeks to finalize it. the sonoma county board of supervisors will start a meeting an hour early to give extra time to discuss an issue galvanizing the community, the fail shooting of a teen by a sheriff deputy. the 13-year-old andy lopez was shot to death while caring a toy that looked live an ak-47. his family fired a lawsuit against the department and the deputy, erick gelhaus.

the meeting starts at 8:30. protesters are planning another march today at 1:00 o'clock p.m. heading to the district attorney's office to demand erick gelhaus be fired, arrested and indicted. >> police are investigating after someone set a man on fire at a bus yesterday afternoon. police say the driver stopped to call for help and several people got off the bus through the rear exit. the victim is in a hospital burn unit. there is no word on a suspect or motive. >> the san jose city council is expected to take up a firearms ordinance today to deal with the wild pig problem. the feral pigs have done thousands of damage to the greens of a country club and torn up the neighbor's lawns. trappers can shoot the pigs in city limits which now is banned inside the borders except by police and firing ranges. currently, pigs have to be taken

outside of the city to be killed. >> the board of supervisors of san francisco will vote on legislation to make it tougher for medical marijuana dispensaries to open in one district. the "san francisco examiner" reports that the supervisor says three dispensaries have opened on mission street in the past year. he says that it is unfair to have high concentrations of the dispensaries in certain neighborhoods and wants to make the process tougher. marijuana advocates argue zoning laws for pot clubs are already too restrictive. >> happening today in sonoma county, traffic will be a mess for drivers in the north bay as people flock to the grand opening of the biggest and newest casino, the graton casino opens west of highway 101 in rohnert park. the casino will be home to blackjack slots and video poker. c.h.p. is bracing for 10,000 extra cars a day.
