abc7 news starts with breaking news. >> thanks for joining us at action. >> police agencies away the state are looking for a baby boy taken by his father from sunnyvale. abc7 news reporter, matt keller, is in sunnyvale with details on the amber alert. matt? >> police say this apartment complex on helen avenue is where the abduction took place. we are now finding out the search for the suspect could be focused on southern california right now. this is video of a caltran sign

you will see on the roads. our sister station in san diego say there was a "ping" from the cell phone last night and c.h.p. told kg tv they received several reports from people who saw the vehicle but the people or the suspect or the baby have not been found. here is a description of the 2-week-old baby: henry romero with black hair and brown eyes taken from the apartment complex on helen avenue yesterday afternoon by his father after an argument with his mother and has not been seen. the suspect's the father of the child at 22 years old, 6' tall, 120 pounds with brown hair and eyes. he said he was taking the baby and leaving the state and previously has threatened to harm himself and the baby. here is the description of the vehicle: tan 2004gmc with

their homes look okay but it was a safety issue. they have turned off the power and they have to do mop-up and an investigation. pan over to the right and i will show you the enormous building, an old church. a man just showed up who works there and i asked what is this and he said it is an internet archive. he is concerned about the data center. he wanted to get the power turned on to protect it. he is working with pg&e to try and get that figured out. there is a lot going on here. the fire itself is out it took 10 or 15 minutes to get the fire out. now they are just trying to figure out what caused it. they have to get all of this cleaned up. eight people have been dismissed and firefighters are cleaning up this situation. i am assessing what happened.

to the altamont pass with the big rig in place blocking one lane, eastbound 580 at greenville road. everything is moving fine to the dublin interchange and into pleasanton not too bad with highway four hooking clear with a slight pocket of slowing. from emeryville camera to the bay bridge traffic is moving smoothly in the westbound direction. >> automatic the votes have been counted this morning in bay area elections where several key issues were decided in santa clara county, 66 percent of voters who cast ballots approved the controversial measure c. gun owners are banned from owning magazines with more than ten rounds. they will be required to lock up firearms in their homes and report thefts. gun dealers have to keep a log of ammunition sales. the n.r.a. threatened to sue. in san francisco, voters defeated measures to allow a high resolution luxury condo

complex on the waterfront. on washington street near the embarcadero. it lost with 62 percent voting "no." measure c would have increased height limits for any structure built on the site. it was defeated, too, by did thirds of voters. inant, i don't, voters passed a sales tax increase to get more police officers on the street. the sales tax is up to 9 percent for seven years starting next april. >> now election results from elsewhere around the country, virginia has a new governor, new jersey keeps the old one and big cities have new mayors. katie marzullo is in the newsroom with more. katie, how do you make sense of this? >> the election is hours old and they are looking ahead to what this could mean for the white house in 2016. well start in new jersey, g.o.p. incumbent goes chris christie won in a landslide with a 20-point victory by a republican in a democratic state. he won a majority of woke, that families and a third of all democrats. the victory speech had all the

hallmarks of a candidate with national aspiration. in democrat, democrat terry mcauliffe is the governor, a former party chair and friend of the clintons. mcauliffe defeated we cuccinelli a tea party backed conservative. athe republican party has two different versions of their future. two different paths toward success or failure. >> also, hundreds of cities across the country elected mayors. new york it is the end of an era, democrat beat three term mayor bloomberg. we know that president obama called and congratulated the winners including blasio but he did not call governor chris christie. >> a crawl all the local election results continues to run across the bottom the screen throughout the newscast. you can fine the results on our website county by county at

abc7news.com. a new snag in plans to demolish the old bay bridge. workers were scheduled to remove the sessions of the bridge this morning but a contractor is still working on a way to contain all of the debris. the work will begin in a week removing 1,400' of the old bridge. next year they take down the steel cutting the section in half with the demolition taking three years and cost $240 million. >> it is going to get warmer. >> and sunshine is free if you have solar panels. we have high clouds from time to time but it will not stop. look at this, mount tamalpais is not bouncing as much administration yesterday. look how clear the air is from sausalito to san francisco way down there to the san mateo bridge. you can barely see it. next 12 hours, 43 to 53 degrees. that is our temperature through

abc7 news begins with breakings news. >> thanks for joining us. the breaking news, amber alert in effect with south bay authorities across california asking drivers to look out for a father who snatches his own baby boy. abc7 news reporter, matt keller, is in sunnyvale with the latest. matt? >> the mother of the child is at the complex in sunnyvale. she said that her two week old baby was taken. here is a picture we received of the suspect. he is the father of the child. he is 22-year-old. he is 6' tall. 1120 pounds. police say he told the mother he was taking the baby and leaving the state and previously has throatenned to harm himself and the baby.

sfo. it will be warm today. there are high clouds and sun with temperatures above average. 65 to 70 in san francisco. in the bay, 71 to 76 and inland, 73 to 76 for a more narrow spread. leyla gulen? >> we have a problem approaching the altamont pass with a few issues in san francisco. we will get to those now as we head over to the 280 extension, a report of a stalled vehicle blocking a lane northbound side with plenty of green which means we are at top speed. to the south, though, barely, before you get to 280 extension, northbound, along 101, we have another accident and it has been pushed to the shoulder so no lanes are blocked. right now i am tracking this accident and this is our first report of an accident coming up to buy -- byron you will see an

high-rise condo complex at the tennis club at embarcadero and washington street. another measure fails 67 percent of voterring voting an increase to height limits of any structure. in the another bay a sales tax increase could help make antioch safer. voters passed measure c with 68 percent of the vote so 22 new police officers will be hired in the city and it will help with an overall dire financial situation. the sales tax goes up half a cent for the next seven years and the city estimates it will bring in more than $4 million a year. in marin county, voters approved nine of ten measures and the only measure j failed which was a $7 million bond measure for improvements in the strawberry district. >> notable national races, republican governor chris christie of new jersey won re-election if a race that set

him up for a potential presidential bid in 2015. democrat terry mcauliffe won the virginia governor's race. and bill de blasio is the first democrat in two decades to be elected mayor of new york city. you can find the results on our went and across the bottom of the screen during the newscast. >> a warning from stanford police after a student was drugged at a party and sexaully assaulted. the student blacked out after being given a drink by a man she did not know on friday. police up people to not accept drinks from strangers. >> this morning, a san francisco motorcycle police officer is involving after being hit by a vehicle doing a u-turn south of market. the officer was conscious when taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and an investigation into the crash is underway.

police have not said if the driver has been cited. >> what could be the largest securities fraud case is about to may out in oakland federal court today. a father and son will plead guilty in a settlement reached last month. we have been covering the case for two years. the men were accused much stealing $700 million from hundreds of incestors -- investors and now are pleading guilty to lesser charges but could face 10 years in prison. the government told victims they will not get their money back. >> san jose state students signing up for spring semester classes are learning they have fewer to choose from. the university is cutting back the number of classes to keep the management in balance. our media pan, says one prefer was told on thursday to cut $55,000 or 20 classes and had an hour to make the decision. the school was on track to overspend by $3.million this

covering lossally toes, petaluma and all the bay area this is abc7 news. in rohnert park small businesses near the new grayton resort and casino are looking to cash in on the flood of new visitors. grayton resort and casino officials say 27,000 people visited for opening day. traffic was snarled along 101 several miles. c.h.p. is warning drivers to expect delays through the weekend with casino visitors hopefully stopping to spend money at the stores. >> i wasn't a fan at first. now i help it will bring us more business. according to a casino spokesman grayton resort and casino is a win for the tribe and the community.
