>> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks thanks for joining us on this sunday, november 10th. let's start a quick look at you are a weather with meet lease argen. >> good morning. temperatures in the 40s and 50s to start out. visibility is a problem in the north bay, also in the south bay with about three quarter visibility in san jose. here's the emeryville camera in the east bay. you will notice it is cloudy out there in spots but we will look for that to clear. watch out for some of the dense fog. temperatures in the 50s and 60s by noontime.

once again you can see the pattern. it will be mild. we will see some sunshine. afternoon highs ranging from the 60s at the coast to the upper 60s around the bay. 70 inland. it will be a quietest evening and tomorrow most of you have the day off. this should follow suit once again. we are looking for rain headed our way by late in the day tomorrow. details on that coming up. carolyn. >> we will look for that. thank you, lisa. we begin with develop news out of southeast asia where recovery efforts are now underway in the philippines following typhoon haiyan. the death toll continues to climb. officials say it could top 10,000 in one city alone. hundreds of bodies have already been recovered. a mass burial is planned for today. here's abc news reporter chuck sievertson with the latest. >> from the air and on the ground scenes of utter devastation. >> like a tornado that pass the us. and the tornado lasted for four hours.

>> the tropical cyclone cut a wide swath of destruction over the central philippines. especially hard hit is the town of tacloban. its residence endured 150 miles per hour winds and flattening villages and towns in it's path and leaving behind devastation on a massive scale. >> things were just crumbling. at first it was the ceilings that went off and then the roofs started flying in all directions. >> dramatic rescues saved many people. friends and neighbors floating residents to higher ground against a tide of destruction. many did not survive. >> at least 10,000. >> we have so many dead people. >> the water supply is contaminated. so much food washed away by the storm. >> people are getting pretty desperate. >> this town is suffering very

badly. >> after sweeping through the philippines, tropical cyclone haiyan is taking direct aim at vietnam. >> it's a threat to vietnam, hong kong, and the rest of south china. >> vietnam braced for the storms by evacuating hundreds of thousand of coastal residents and stacking sandbags against the expected fury. abc news, new york. >> take a look at new video we got in this morning of damage in the philippines. just horrible. homes and buildings reduced to rubble, washed-out homes and scattered debris. some of the dramatic images of people in the area are facing this morning. this is a n.a.s.a. picture of the storm from the international space station. you can see just how big it is. the typhoon is now hitting vietnam this morning. authorities have evacuated more than-a million people in high-risk areas. and the situation there is having a ripple effect here in the bay area.

abc7 news reporter sergio has more on local residents trying to connect with family in the philippines. >> as relief workers continue to assess the damage from typhoon haiyan, this man is getting ready for his flight. geese to manila. he's had trouble contacting family. >> all the power, you know, cutoff. everything. >> he knows he will make it to there but some flights have been cancelled and he doesn't know how bad the city is hit. >> are you worried about what you will find you get there? >> oh, yeah, i'm worried. >> lots of his fellow travelers were keeping tabs on headlines and for the areas that had been hit, any news is a relief, even if it's not good. >> yesterday i got a short message saying they are okay, but the house is gone.

>> she's a member of the st. patrick's catholic church in the mission. she's happy to hear her family is safe, but the entire congregation is now waiting it to hear from their local pastor. he happened to be in the philippines when the storm hit. >> he's not in the area of manila, but we haven't heard from him yet. >> for those looking to help, project pearls will be collecting money and food at a relief drive. abc7 news. >> and that relief drive by project pearls that sergio will be talking about is happening today from 10:00 to 2:00. it will take place at the rnc motor cars on el camino real in san bruno. our coverage of this story continues right now on our website, our facebook page, and on twitter. follow us@abc7newsbayarea. >> will she or won't she?

a continuing question this morning for supporters of hillary clinton. will she run for president in 2016? last night the former secretary of state was in san francisco for two events. she was met by huge crowds. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more. >> hillary clinton rushed into the regency ballroom to speak to a sold-out crowd and to raise money for the clinton foundation. >> i'm a very big fan of bill clinton and hillary clinton and chelsea clinton. >> tickets ranged from $150 to $5,000. but the legion of clinton supporters wasn't just here. they anxiously waited for her motorcade to pass along howard street. there she is in the back seat of this white lincoln sedan. clinton was the keynote speaker of the national association of realtors association at the moscone center. the media was not allowed. attendees snapped photos and tweeted a way. there was even a q&a segment.

>> they asked her if she was going to run and she wouldn't fully say. she said she hadn't decided yet. >> hillary! >> outside the moscone center this group wants the former first lady to run for president in 2016. >> people are so fired up to support hillary and we are organizing early and we are really excited. >> there were also a lot of people inside moscone west who wanted and paid to see clinton but couldn't because of capacity issues. >> we got here and they put me in an overflow room with a big screen tv and said i couldn't go in to see hillary. >> i'm on a videoconference. we showed up to see hillary. >> clinton supporters called this passion for a woman who has yet to show a sign or even a nod to what's to come. in san francisco, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> how would hillary clinton do if she ran for president in 2016 and faced new jersey republican governor chris christie? according to a poll conducted by

cnn, clinton would find more support in new jersey 53% christie would get and more on christie after his commanding win in the governor's race. christie goes one-on-one with george stephanopoulos this morning on "this week." what issues will he tackle next in his second term? what does christie's strong win mean for his presidential prospects? and which wing of the republican party does he think will win over g. o. p. voters in 2016? you can catch "this week" right here on abc7 at 8:00. fire crews are investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire that gutted a san mateo home. this house on warren road was fully engulfed by the time the first firefighters arrived on the scene around 7:30 last night. it took about an hour and a half for them to put out the flames,

which at one point shot through the roof of that home several feet in the air. one firefighter suffered an injury and was taken to the hospital. no one was inside that home. three people were burned after a second-floor deck fire broke out in a three-story apartment in san francisco's mission district last night. the victims tried to put out the fire themselves and were hurt in the process. one person was taken to the st. francis memorial hospital burn center with serious injuries. the controlled burn is raising concerns in the south bay. yesterday lots of people called in about smoke from big basin state park. you can see the ploom of smoke from space in this image. the cal fire controlled burn will wrap up today. lisa argen is here now with a preview of the accuweather forecast. >> it's getting a little more exciting out there, seeing the green on the map that's to come. there's not a whole lot of it.

>> knew this morning, an animal sanctuary employee is dead after being attacked by a wildcat in oregon. it happened last night at wildcat haven in the city of sherwood. that's just southwest of portland. while the victim's identity has not been released authorities say it's a 35-year-old woman. no word yet on the type of cat that attacked her, but the sanctuary is home to 60 wildcats, including abandoned and abused tigers, bobcats lynks. yesterday a balloon exploded over wine country. four people are recovering from injuries. that was in riverside county. it happened just before 8:00 yesterday morning. faa officials say the balloon was carrying six people. one person was burned, two others seriously crushed, and another suffered minor injuries. no word yet on the cause of the explosion. the ntsb is investigating. the family of a missing brazilian man will hand out

flyers in san francisco today trying to get the word out about his disappearance. the 22-year-old was last heard from on october 28th. police say he was visiting san francisco from l.a. and contacted relatives in brazil and a friend in los angeles indicating he was in trouble and being followed. his family will be handing out flyers at 1:00 in dolores park. >> there will be a search in santa rosa for a missing disabled veteran. "the press democrat" reports 56-year-old david was reported missing on halloween. his girlfriend tells authorities he was having an emotional breakdown when he left his home on foot. the search is scheduled to begin at 9:00 at spring lake regional park. another day of protests for 13-year-old andy lopez, the sonoma county boy shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy last month. yesterday protesters held a

march inside this santa rosa park demanding justice for lopez in what was called a day of action. other protests were held in san francisco, oakland and los angeles. >> this time we just don't want to let it lie. things need to change. we want a different story because we don't there to be any more andy lopezes. we don't want this to happen to anybody else. >> the deputy that shot lopez, shot him several times after the teen displayed an air soft rifle. last week lopez's family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against that deputy and against the county. parents, check your kitchens. locally-made baby food is being recalled." plum organics of emeryville has issued a voluntary recall for millions of food products. they are baby stage 2, tots mishmash and kids lines. look for best buy dates ranging from august 5 to december 8 of 2014. the company said the pouches did not seal correctly, so that

but also down by mountain view and san jose. the fog is causing is somewhat of a problem. from our roof camera you can see the beginning of dawn here. 6:45 the official sunrise. sunsets right after five. we will get sunshine in here today. mild to start in san francisco. 52. 51 oakland. good morning, san jose. 45 for you. los gatos in the mid-40s and fog down around the south bay on the peninsula. emeryville partly cloudy skies. 43 in santa rosa. mildner the north bay. we do have the fog. 39 novato. livermore at 45 and concord at 43. down to a quarter mile visibility santa rosa. three miles in napa, novato. 8 miles mountain view. look at san jose, just about two miles. a big switch from yesterday. we do have that southerly component that will not only help in mixes up the fog, but also bra the fog in while you were sleeping. it will work in our favor later on today. a nice shot from the

exploratorium camera. the highlights then, areas of fog, cooler today with some hazy sunshine. chance of rain still coming boo play for some. we are only talking about a tenth of an inch. very little rain if you see any at all in the north bay. the latest updates now on typhoon haiyan whering it still continuing to be a about a category 1 with 85 miles an hour winds. it will continue to weaken. it is moving into vietnam at 160 nautical miles southeast of hanai and it will move to the southeast. it will continue to weaken with winds about 65 miles an hour. as it moves over the land, of course, it loses its strength. and it moves to the north and east throughout the rest of the day. then dissipates. we will be thinking of those folks there throughout the day as the cleanup continues. high pressure continues for us. allowing for the mild weather for another day. here's the front. it sits offshore. so it won't impact us today

except for the low clouds and fog at the coast. a few high clouds from time to time. and by monday, for the holiday, we are looking at partly cloudy skies. we will get some sunshine. still 60s and maybe about a 70-degree reading. but by 4:00 in the afternoon, we are dry but we do see the rain making some inroads into the north bay. this is your tuesday morning commute. 6:00. so from napa to sonoma down through marin, a little wet. continues on its southward trek but it falls apart. probably won't see any in parts of livermore, concord or san owes but we will look for milder conditions behind the system. 68 milpitas. look for 64 san mateo today b the same in san francisco. low clouds and fog keeping it kind of gray and cool at the coast. 07 santa rosa. near east bay, some upper 60s for you in oakland. fremont 69. you head inland, here's where it will be milder. 71 pleasanton.

cloudy skies for the coast and around the bay with numbers in the 60s there. low to mid-60s around half moon bay and pacifica. around the bay oakland today, you should see about 68 degrees. mid-60s elsewhere. inland still managing a few lower 70s. high pressure and our fair weather maker holding on for another day, day and a half, then we are still looking at the possibility of a little light rain coming our way. i'll detail that for you in a few minutes. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. this morning devastating news from storm-ravaged parts in the philippines. the death toll from typhoon haiyan could reach 10,000. most of the deaths are from drowning and being hit from debris in collapsed buildings. millions have been affected in some way by the phone. haiyan is now churning toward vietnam. you are looking at new video this morning of workers making preparations ahead of the storm.

officials there have evacuated half a million residents from high risk areas. new details in morning on talks between iran and western diplomats on a series of proposed restrictions that would slow development of the country's nuclear program. the discussions ran into trouble yesterday after the french foreign minister objected to a a draft agreement, saying it doesn't go far enough to contain iran's nuclear ambitions. talks ended abruptly without an agreement. u.s. secretary of state john kerry is among those meeting. he's confident a deal will be reached at some point. >> with good work and good faith over the course of the next weeks, we can, in fact, secure our goal. >> the draft agreement would have slowed iran's suspected progress toward making a nuclear weapon while easing sanctions on its economy. the parties are expected to reconvene november 20.

tomorrow is veteran's day. a day to honor the men and women who have served in the u.s. military. one man is trying to do that by honoring their memories forever captured in letters written on the battlefield. stephanie shows us the legacy project. >> deer betty ann. i saw something today that makes me realize why we are fighting this war. >> written in april, 1945 by a distant cousin of mine. >> reporter: meet andrew karel. >> this is the letter that started it all. >> reporter: he's talking about this letter written from world war ii. it was on its way to the trash before a retired vet gave it to him. this is a collection of correspondence composed from battlefields around the world. he has written books based on the letters and even a play. we caught the rehearsal. >> i wondered if i could use my weapon against someone else. >> the notes, beautifully handwritten, stretch from the earliest wars to e-mails from of afghanistan.

there's even this from a staff sergeant that wrote his letter on adolph hitler's stationary and another scarred with a bullet hole. >> we have letters that are stained with blood marks and mud. letters from vietnam where the ink is streamed because it was written in a rain storm. >> the letters often open unique windows into history. >> this was a letter written inside a ship of pearl harbor december 7, 1941, dear sis -- >> i don't know why i'm writing this because if we get hit with a bomb, they won't find enough of me, let alone a letter. >> the emotions are timeless. >> if you strip away the dates and salutations, you can almost not tell one war from another. >> what about the wounds you can't see, the phantoms, the nightmares, the gophers in your head. >> people who think the troops should restrain themselves are asking too much of human nature. >> 20 years old bob was was in vietnam and wrote this letter. he has since den natured it to the project. >> i would like them to go somewhere where they would be

safe, where the scholars of the next generations. >> i see this kind of an expanding memorial to the men and women who served and their loved ones. >> a memorial to keep alive the front row accounts of history long after the writers have passed. >> write as often as possible. mail is all i have to look forward to. >> stephanie, orange county, california. >> a number of restaurants are honoring veterans with free food or services tomorrow. for instance, chilis is giving a free entre for veterans or for active military personnel with i.d. go to abc7news.com and click on see it on tv for a link to a participating business. crowd funding is all the rage among start-ups right now. so many are launching new products by getting lots of little donations from people online. but kids raising money are still selling baked goods and lemonade. as johnathan bloom explains, there's a start-up that's out to change that.

but east bay, south bay communities you won't get so lucky. just enough to give the plants a drink of waters, get the roadways wet and that's about all we have in store. 6:45 the official sunrise. san francisco at 52 degrees. 43 redwood city and 46 and fog in san jose. 54 half moon bay. another nice shot east bay hills camera. you can see mt. diablo. get set for a sunny and mild day in the east values. concord, probably near 70 today. 33 santa rosa, 37 novato. we are looking at low 40s concord. visibility in miles, half a mile in san jose. also mountain view. so quite a switch from yesterday. do be careful if you are headed out early for an early morning jog, a bike ride. poor visibility. along the coast it's a little better. the north pay, once again, dense fog in spots. here's a look at san jose.

it is pretty gray out there. so areas of dense fog. look for temperatures a little cooler today. hazy afternoon, sunshine. chance of rain comes our way not here, not for the folks in the south bay by tuesday because this is a very wimpy system. you will see it in a moment. temperatures this morning 14 degrees warmer in half moon bay. 7 degrees warmer than this time yesterday in oakland. you can see maybe just a degree cooler in the livermore valley. so here's the setup for today. starting out with the low clouds, the fog. right on through 9:00, 10:00. remember we have the november low sun angle. so it's going to take time to burn back. once it does, it will be cooler today. the clouds hanging at the coast. temperatures there just in the low 60s. we will go a couple more days out and you will notice by tomorrow afternoon we are looking at more cloud cover. still dry but by the late overnight hours, here come the rain. it's going to be marching into the north bay.

6:00 tuesday morning for sonoma and marin. san francisco, looks like you will get a shot of rain through early tuesday morning, over into berkeley and oakland perhaps up through vallejo, the sacramento valley. then by 10:00 not really anything left of it. that's why the san jose area and parts of the livermore valley not really going to see anything. 64 in san mateo with half moon bay. coming this in the low 60s today. 70 napa. look for 72 in morgan hill. still very mild out there even around candlestick. it will be breezy, low to mid-60s with partly cloudy skies for the game. after 1:00 the accuweather seven-day forecast. a couple degrees of cooling today. more clouds tomorrow. you said a little shot of rain, carolyn. that covers it monday night into tuesday and sunny and milder for wednesday, thursday and friday. doesn't look like any rain after that. it's not looking good in terms of rainfall. >> we still have a ways to go. >> we do. it's very early. >> all right. you talk about the weather for
