lucille had been kidnapped by the evil penguin. bat kid chased down the penguin and rescued lucille. it was a typical day for a super hero like bat kid. mayor ed lee presented bat kid, miles, with a key to the city. i think at this point bat kid probably needs a nice bed after the activities today i'm sure he's very exhausted. and you know his wish day may be over but i do think the bay area provided him with a lifetime of well wishes which was amazing to be a part of and amazing to see. >> it was phenomenal. we were worried with the mom this, might be just overwhelming but he seemed to do fine every rescue and every step of the way. >> you know, i talked to the family yesterday, his dad said his favorite thing to do is stress -- dress up

jose police officer on a motorcycle injured today during a collision with a car. this accident took place near corner of 4th and empire streets. investigators released few details but collision happened while the officer was on this hatch back. this week, they reminded drivers to move to the right. >> just drive cautiously. slow down. move carefully to the right. >> a san jose police have not said if the officer was trying to pull the car over. but the collision left the officer unconscious, he's being treated in the hospital the driver of the hash back is cooperating with investigators. a special bart board meeting called today to discuss a contract dispute that could threaten the approval between bart and union workers we're having another possibility of a strike out there. abc7 news learned a union proposal about paid family leave was apparently

rejected but, that proposal somehow made it back into the final contact. bart management says the proposal signed in error by the transit agency. union officials say intart attempting to go back on the agreement. we'll keep you posted. >> frightening moments for passengers on board an american airlines flight today. sky seven was overhead after that plane made an emergency landing. it hit a bird during take joch. abc7 news spoke to passengers who have a harrowing story to tell. >> reporter: standing on solid ground never felt g now, they're wasting to be rebooked for another flight the first flight didn't go well. the trouble started after takeoff. >> yes. >> then, when i saw a ball of light and heard a big sounded like a bomb. yes. it was just a

loud bang. >> the plane went slowly after that. >> 139 passengers and five crew members were aboard flight 1118 to dallas when it appears to hit one bird. american airlines says the pilot powered down the engine and landed. >> the pilot came on and said, you know we hit a bird we train for this, they checked the plane to make sure there was some fire on the plane. then we taxied back ask have to reschedule for another flight. >> reporter: bird strikes are a major safety issue. according to the faa there were 46 bird strikes with only one private plane reporting substantial damage. u.s. department of agriculture used several different ways to rid the runway in san jose of birds. a airport spokeswoman said 5,311 birds

for bat kid. miles saved a damsel in distress, caught the riddler and took on the penguin while thousands of bat kid fans looked on. and hundreds make the 5-year-old's wish come true. >> yes. >> abc7 news reporter wayne freedman is live with a look at what it took to pull this off today, wayne? >> well, there were volunteers and all kinds of stuff that went on behind the scenes. much of the people did not want to talk. they said this was not their day. this was bat kid's day. i don't know what we've witnessed. it ended here. you know saying it takes a village? nah. just a city like san francisco.

first meeting on miami dolphins bullying scandal is now over. he met with ted watt seven hours today in new york city. did he say he's looking forward to resuming his career the former stanford lineman left the dolphins two weeks ago over what he said was constant hazing and harass frment teammates. >> crews started demolishing two homes in florida after a massive sink hole opened up beneath them. that sink hole has tripled in size. it started yesterday morning. seven families had to be evacuated. no one has been hurt. crews used heavy equipment to tear down homes. officials say they will need 12,000 cubic yards of earth to fill in the sink hole. >> water coming in the car.

a pilot was cleared after a loen passenger fell out of a plane into the ocean yesterday. miami dade police and coast guard were searching for the body at first light today. the pilot issued a distress call reporting the man fell from an open door at
