is some light snow right now. we expect snow levels to drop. winter weather advisory until tomorrow morning. back to the bay area, how about these rainfall storm totals? over an inch and a half in mount st. helena. san jose with nearly three quarters of an inch of rainfall. in spots totals could increase just a bit. looks like heaviest is over for now. we'll have rain and showers to follow evening and overnight hours. thank you. >> abc7 news was the first reporter to tweet photos of the car that went off a cliff in the

santa cruz mountains. david? >> reporter: you can see the traffic is backed up at best, it's creeping at worst in a dead stop this, is because of an accident happening about two and a half hours ago. let's show what happened. as we look at video shot just minutes ago, a lexus sedan skided and dropped 50 feet down a cliff on the east side of highway 17. patrol tells us the car overturned, and the driver and three passengers sustained major injuries the car was badly smashed and appears to have hit a tree. three occupants had to be brought up and they sustained major injuries and rushed to two hospitals the fourth occupant received less severe injuries. rain was heavy around 1:30 nochlt other vehicle was involved. patrol says the driver appeared to have

been driving too fast for conditions. >> vehicle went into a slide. coming down the hill. collided with the right concrete barrier and overturned and went to the right side for the east side of the freeway. >> what kind of a drop? 40? 50 feet? >> approximately 50 feet. >> southbound highway 17 traffic leaving san jose towards santa cruz kept open. vehicles did slow down at the accident scene. northbound traffic diverted and took a detour, it's been a slow drive for anyone towards san jose. traction means you will lose control. reopening of the northbound lanes you can see this creeping along here has been complicated by efforts to get the car up the cliff and on

to the roadway. tow truck trying to do that because the car was lodged against a drain. so, they're going to try it again. live on highway 17, david louie, abc7 news. >> it's a virtual parking lot. on highway 17, the storm knocked down this tree early in the morning on santa clara county side blocking one lane for an hour. >> take a look at this. there is wet cement. these are pictures. two children were on board the bus at the time. the bus, as you can see has been towed away. the storm caused big problems in the south bay. 15,000 pg&e customers lost power overnight. most customers had had their power restored but the utility is reporting still about a thousand customers without electricity in

us the man is a doctor from inda. he's not licensed here but ucsf confirms he's working as a researcher at that hospital. investigators were hoping he can provide important information since he seems to be the only one who saw lynn spalding during her 17 day disappearance. unfortunately that, did not happen. october 4, 2 weeks after lynn spalding disappeared from her hospital bed a nurse heard a mystery man knocking on a locked door of an emergency man the man told the nurse he saw a person in the stairwell. he then left quickly never identifying himself. the nursing supervisor notified a sheriff's dispatcher said deputies would check it out but sheriff mirkarimi admitted they dropped the ball. >> there is no indication anyone was dispatched to that

stairwell. >> police distributed this flyer said they're looking for the mystery witness the researcher says he came forward after he saw it on a bulletin board a source says the researcher told them he was on the 5th floor of the stairwell and said the person was lying between the three ready and 4th floors and added he didn't do near or touch, or move the person that, he didn't know if she was dead or alive. investigators say spalding was dead by that time, and that her body would have been badly decomposed he said he didn't detect that. investigators tell thaws is the extent of what he knew. police say they've now completed their probe. the only thing they're waiting for is a medical examiner's office on the cause of death. hank harris is a family lawyer. >> i'm curious to certainly read the medical examiner's report when we get it it's outrageous we don't have it

yet. >> investigators tell us the medical examiner is waiting for the toxicology reports. vic lee, abc7 news. officials in san francisco international airport released preliminary findings today from a review of the emergency response to july's crash of asiana airlines crash. three people were killed the airport commissioned the review. and auditor found the airport about d.a good job but called for better communication between personnel and public. the emergency alert system for staff failed and web site crashed the airport didn't do enough to keep restaurants open for stranded passengers and called on working with local hotels to deal with price gouging. the findings did not match in the death of a passenger run over by a fire truck in moments after that crash. >> one person is in custody and police are still searching for another man after an armed robbery and a hostage standoff today. just after 11:00 this

taking a look at live doppler seven now a fast-moving storm blew through the bay area, flooding streets, leaving behind plenty of standing water. there are scattered showers that are expected into the night. taking a look at traffic now, you're looking at interstate 80 in beshgly. you can see it's heavy in both directions as you'd expect on a soggy day like this. >> one more live look. traffic going back to the east bay. that is backed up considerably. but the sun is out. you can see standing water there going to cause difficulties but the roads are drying out. we're making progress here. especially compared to noon or 1:00 in the

umbrellas. dan? >> well this was a scene in alame alameda. >> tonight there are sporadic outages throughout the bay area. a thousand pg&e customers are in the dark tonight. outages caused a number of problems today. abc7 news is live now from highway 17. near the summit there has been a bad traffic accident. david? >> well, dan it only takes one accident to snarl up traffic. about 1:30 this afternoon this, happened. a lexus sedan going northbound just skidded and lost control the car landed down a 50-foot cliff and struck a concrete road barrier. you can see the damage. it took out a tree. four people inside were injured
