live from the kgo broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, november 24th. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with meteorologist lisa. >> good morning, carolyn. hi, everyone. we have just a little bit of fog, not showing up on the radar but returns may show up right before thanksgiving. so timing is everything, right? temperatures this morning certainly cool. will warm up -- warm up -- climb through the upper 30s. that's why we are still in the mid 30s to upper 30s. we are looking for 50s by noon time. around the bay with mild and

sunny weather, well have changes as we head towards the long holiday weekend. whether or not they include rain, i'll let you know coming up, carolyn? >> thank one lisa. there is a historic nuclear agreement between iran, the u.s. and five other world powers. it was reached early today, gentleman kneea time pf after weeks of secret meetings and decades of diplomatic silence. but some loud objections are already coming from israeli leaders. abc reporter has the details. >> reporter: u.s. secretary of state john kerry shakes hands with diplomats. this deal marks an important step in what has been a cold history with iran. >> for what, 34 years, iran and the united states have not been able to talk to each other. >> at the white house, president obama said this agreement marks a promised new path for curbing iran's nuclear ambitions. >> so if i took office, i'd make clear my determination to

prevent iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. >> in this six-month agreement, iran will limit its uranium enrichment. they will dilute any weapons grade fuel they already have. they will also open their facilities to increased inspections. in return, iran will see sanctions that allow up to $4.6 billion in oil sales and $1.5 billion in sales of other goods and international community will not impose any new sanctions for six months. israeli prime minister netanyahu has been the biggest critics saying tougher sanctions should continue but secretary of state kerry says ignoring iran would encourage them to grow their nuclear program. >> we believe you would wined up with an iran of bigger stockpiles, with more advanced center fusions. >> all sides in this

negotiation, say this is the first step in a long process, and if iran does not israeli, the country could see even stricter sanctions. abc 7 news. >> secretary of state john kerry says there is no daylight, his words, between israel and the united states. even though leaders from both countries will portray that iran agreement very differently. secretary kerry arrived from london in geneva this morning during an interview with george stephanopoulos. kerry says it does serve a security interest of both the u.s. and israel. >> we both want it make it certain iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. and while we are negotiating for the dismantling, they'll not grow the program in their capacity to threaten israel. >> some congressional members from both parties are saying this morning they want to see a roll back of iran's nuclear

program. not just a freeze of where it stands now. president obama will no doubt face questions about the deal when he comes to san francisco tomorrow. he will meet with supporters during fund-raiser at sf jazz center and also visit the recreation center in chinatown to push for immigration reform. stay with abc 7 news for complete coverage of the president's visit tomorrow. can you also get updates any time on twitter. follow us on abc 7 news bay area. two buildings are less gutted by fire this morning in san francisco's presiddo heights. you can see the big flames recorded by an abc news viewer yesterday afternoon. abc 7 news reporter says, the vintage buildings on sacramento and locusts streets burned so fast, people barely had time to get out. >> massive flames and huge

plumes of smoke billowed out of the buildings in presidio heights. the sights were shocking. >> people were just shocked. i was a little nervous. it looked like it was traveling quickly. >> the fire moved so fast, firefighters attacked it from all sides, including the roof, ground and even from inside. the fire was everywhere. >> with the wood frame constructed building and zero property lines, the buildings dry up between one another and when the fire gets inside buildings, it goes between buildings. >> the fire devoured what was inside the offices and apartments on the upper floors of the building. >> i hosed my house down. i know about the shingles and i hosed down my trees because i was worried about ashes. >> just not everyone on

sacramento street was worried and cared. . >> [ inaudible ] >> like i didn't put one thing into the cinch and they knock on the door and go out, go out, run out. >> the fire didn't spread. there are no injuries and the cause is under investigation. >> another fire in san francisco damaged a popular restaurant. it started at 9:00 yesterday morning at little henrys italian food on larkin and the tenderloin neighborhood. crews had that fire out in about 20 minutes. a floor heater appears to be the cause of a four-alarm fire that damaged a century-old building in burling game. flames broke out before 4:00 yesterday morning causing about $2 million worth of damage. police are investigating the shooting death of a man in san jose last night.

it happened at capital park, not far from interstate 680. police say they found man who appeared to be between 18 and 20 years old lying on the ground with at least one gun hot wound. he did not have any id and police are still trying to find out who he is. this is san hoe zi's 44th homicide this year. the naacp wants four students accused of bullying their black roommate to face felony charges. four freshman are charged with misdemeanor, height crime and battery. prosecutorses say they used racial slurs against the student, decorated the rooms with nazi images, put a bike lock around his neck and locked him in the room. naacp want charges. the suspect said he did it only because of peer pressure.

the friend of the victim says it was so bad, he just doesn't want it talk about it. >> we surround him with friendship. we just let him do his thing and we are just there if he needs us. >> san francisco officials will meet with the naacp tomorrow to discuss racial tensions on campus. weather conditions are becoming more favorable for crews battling a wildfire in sonoma county. steep and rugged terrain is making it tough to cut containment lines. but fire has grown to 3300 acres near geyserville. right now the mccabe fire, as it's calls, is about 35% contained. a geo plant is no longer threatened but a cooling tower was destroyed. that storm that moved through the bay area last week is now moving east. eight people died with four deaths in new mexico and texas. temperatures dropped to the 20s

in new mexico yesterday bridging icy roads. that caused several accidents. the system could make road, rail and air travel a mess for millions on the move for thanksgiving. abc meteorologist ginger has the details. >> frozen. that slow-moving storm is beating the winter into the southwest. in amarillo texas, a snow-covered nightmare on the road. shivering in el paso, almost 30 degrees below average. and in midland, it's this type of day. when you open and promptly shut the door on the cold. in new mexico, some areas picking up more than a foot and a half of fresh snow. wind rifting at power lines and not everybody is loving it. >> a coat and a scarf and a hat. >> in arizona, many welcoming

snow in flagstaff. but further south, more than two inches of rain collapsing this roof near phoenix. >> you know, collect the water up and empty the buckets. i'm like no, this isn't going to work. >> doesn't look much different for midwest and northeast. >> i've been in missouri for a day and this is happening. >> so many waking up to a steep blast of chill and snow. in southwest michigan, the road's a disaster. in illinois, more than a hundred cars in this pileup. >> wow, ginger z reporting. crews here are cleaning up from the wind storm that swept through the bay area last week. the storm uprooted dozens of tree is all over the east bay. crews are using chippers and power saws clean can cleaning up limbs. a cedar tree fell against a house, fortunately causing little damage. >> it is remarkable. i've been extremely fortunate. i have a whole bunch of antique

happening today, members of three san francisco coral groups perform a benefit concert in oakland. the san francisco boys chorus, symphony chorus and opera chorus will perform at cathedral christ the light on harrison street starting at 7:00. they are asking for $25 donation to help victims of typhoon haiyan. all proceeds go to the catholic relief services in the

philippines. the final design for a suicide barrier on the golden gate bridge is nearing completion. the money to build the actual life-saving safety net still needs to be found. the $5 million design is due to be finished in just a few months. but the independent journal reports funding sources to constrict the $50 million project still need to be lined up. possible sources include the federal government and metropolitan transportation commission which paid for the design. and some are suggesting collecting donations from tourists who visit the bridge. and about the holiday shopping season, no construction around san francisco's union scare for the rest of the year. crews have paved, relined and reopened stockton street geen geary and ellis. consumers welcome the holiday

moratorium. >> i think it is a great thing. we can walk freely. it feels like we aren't even downtown. but we are done town. it is like our own little sidewalk. >> work is still going on under stockton street. by tomorrow, the tunnel will have been board under union square, marking a major milestone in the project. catalogs are arriving in the mail and amazon is second out gift suggestions. when is the best time to get the best deals? here is 7 on your side's michael finny with tips and deals for the holiday shopping season. >> reporter: retailers off line and on are forced to up their game. tamara is with adobe, a leader in internet marketing and transactions. when she says retailers are scrambling because there are six fewer days between thanksgiving and christmas. >> could translate in $1.5 billion in lost sales for

retailers on-line. so they are going to be anxious to get you out the door and shopping on thanksgiving day. >> that's in part wide, thanksgiving thursday is becoming the new black friday. mark is with deal news and says, black friday is really more of a time period than annual day. >> black friday is a friday after thanksgiving for black friday sales happen pretty much all week long. again, we analyze black friday sales for october, november, december for 2011-2012 and we average the deals. >> and what they find are deals are better before and after black friday. >> best deals happen on thanksgiving. second best day is the sunday before cyber monday. >> for thanksgiving, sales are looking up. adobe is expecting on-line sales to increase by 25%. get this, often our on-line shopping will take place when

we're in a store. >> if you think back to the last time we had such a short season, which was 2002, we had flip phones, we used a net browser, a very different world. today we have our mobile phone. >> so we will be multitasking. looking at not just prices but availability. even sales people will use phones to help shoppers this is. >> they may get personalized deals sent to their phones while in the store. it will be a completely different than anything we've ever seen before. >> really, honestly different. >> honestly different. >> here is one last tip. if you don't want to fight a hard core crowd friday, you can expect most deals to go through the weekend. >> all right, so i know you already have your shopping totally done. >> oh, yeah. >> everything picked out. >> we got a long ways to go. but we are -- looks like back to the same ole same ole.

sun is shining behind us. ridge of pressure building in. winds have lightened up. that's a good thing. onshore flow be a little bit of it, moisture in the air and off-shore flow allowed for fog and nice landscapes this morning. we are looking at temperatures cooler for most except in the south bay and we showed you the shot. can't get enough of it from mount tam, you can see just the low level moisture and temperatures right now in these locations, little cool. 49 in san jose. 46 in redwood city. 51 in oakland. 55 in half moon bay. but if you really want cool, hazy conditions here. let's look at the north bay where numbers have come out of the 30s. we are in the low 40s for santa rosa. 45 in napa with fairfield at 46. fog over by the delta. morgan, temperatures mainly in the 40s. so compared to yesterday, definitely cooler. winds have helped mix things up

and allow a little bit of warmth to stay with us early morning. but we are 16 degrees cooler in santa rosa. mountain view, couple degrees cooler. by the afternoon, we will be just as mild today. we will see from emoriville right now. looks good. chilly conditions still. mild conditions for the next several days. the changes will come close to thanksgiving. and at this point, it looks like it is backing off on the rain. forecast models are going to hold the low. little bit further off-shore. speaking of lows, this one is out of here, that brought rain and wind. high pressure as it builds into the west coast. allowing for fair skies and little light off-shore flow. keep it that way through monday and tuesday, few high clouds. look what happens here on wednesday. low is pretty far off-shore. it'll bring much cooler air our way. but look at the rain field. notice off santa barbara and maybe los angeles.

but for the bay area, clouds, cooler conditions and at this point, doesn't look very promising for moisture. but in terms of temperatures today, we are drying out and looking at sunshine everywhere today with low 60s half moon bay. light breeze out there. but mid 60s today. for raiders. nice afternoon to get out and enjoy the weather. 65 in san jose. warmer in the north bay. and if you want to go to the tree lighting, once again tonight at pier 39, temperatures dropping through the 60s from the afternoon to upper 50s. >> accu weather seven-day forecast shows us temperatures stay mild. few high clouds tuesday. chance of rain coming our way on wednesday. lingers through thanksgiving day and should be over by friday but notice the temperatures drop back to dry and mild. so trying to make more out of this system than it is right now. but we can be hopeful. abc 7 news is another great resource for you to follow.

welcome back, everyone. we are starting this after hour as we always do. a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> here is a view from our camera where we have a little bit of moisture out there. you can see the haze to the scene here. but it is sunny, and we will enjoy a seasonably mild day today with temperatures slowly climbing through the 40s and 50s throughout the next couple of hours. 45 right now in napa. 45 in concorde. santa rosa, you were down to nearly freezing this morning. that is 24 degrees cooler than yesterday. with all that wind. we are much calm are today. we will enjoy sunshine once again and temperatures fairly uniform with low to mid 60s

around the bay. and inland spots. we will see inland numbers from 50s to 60s along the coast. we are looking at a weak weather system that could provide a little bit of wet weather for thanksgiving. we will have the details coming up. carol carolyn? >> thank you, lisa. this is a sickening game played out on the streets of east coast cities. trying to knock out unsuspecting victims with a sucker punch. rob nelson reports on new efforts to bring almost deadly practice to an end. i must warn, it is hard it watch. >> they are seemingly random. >> a single blow and they flee after that. >> in what is known as the knock-out game, people are violently struck and sometimes knocked out cold with no reason.

>> these kids have dehumanized others. they are being drastically influenced by the group to commit the act. >> it is a chilling trend felt across the country. with incidents reported in philadelphia, new york, new jersey, connecticut, and pittsburgh. victims left injured and stunned. footage of the attacks caught on surveillance camera and sometimes posted on line by the attackers themselves. >> this is just hitting someone, attacking someone. it could be my mother, your mother. it is just scary and crazy. >> on saturday, new york police charged a brooklyn man with a hate crime after he allegedly punched an orthodox jewish man in the face friday morning. the victim said he heard a group men talking about the knockout game right before the attack. the dangerous trend sparked reaction from national leaders who fear people of certain religions or ethnicities are

being targeted. >> no matter who it is or where it is, we must denounce. >> woman afraid to show her face after her 78-year-old mother was sucker punched after stepping off her porch in brooklyn, new york. >> they wanted to inflict pain on to someone else. no other purpose. >> alameda county voters who will once again be asked to approve a sales tax increase to pay for transportation projects. but this time the tax hike would have a time limit. you might recall that voters narrowly rejected a similar proposal last year. missing by just 721 votes. measure b would raise sales tax in alameda county from a half cent to full sent to pay for freeway and transit projects. members of the commission tell our media partner the bay area news group they will try again next year with a trance measure that would expire after 30 years. if you are looking to add

out as thanksgiving meals. sometime last week burglars crawled through a gymnasium window of christ apostolic church. they stole the trimmings, like potatoes and yams. most of it was donated by coworkers. >> i found out everything was else was gone. >> since the news of that theft broke, people have been flooding in with new donations, hoping to replace what was taken. >> we are just days away from thanksgiving and food banks in the south bay say they don't have enough turkeys. in san jose, second harvest food bank has 6500 turkeys this season but needs at least 12,000. sacred heart community service hopes for 700 more turkeys as well. we have put a link to both organizations on our website, if you want to help, go to abc7news.com and look foresee it

nine days ago, san francisco came through in a big way for a boy who wanted to be batman for a day. 5-year-old miles scott who is in remission from leukemia. the bat kid is getting back to being a normal child in siskiyou

county. but the local make a wish chapter hopes to grand 357 wishes this year. the event for miles was not a fund-raiser but make a wish has already received $10,000 from t-shirt sales from that day. that money will help fund more wishes. and now miles has inspired his school to hold a fund-raiser this week for make a wish. all the kids will dress as superheroes. bat kids family has set up a fund to help other families. they want it help others so they are setting up a bat kid fund to help the three charities most helpful to miles through his recovery. now that he is in remission, they want to give back. >> the bad kid fund is part of the 49ers foundation. you with can learn more by going to abc3news.com and see it on tv. you can watch it here on abc 7

holiday shopping season kicked off. with it come the controversy over how retailers should label their ads. one local company finds itself in the middle of the controversy over merry christmas versus happy holidays. >> it's the busiest shopping time of the year. and when retailers try to lure consume rs, the american family association wants their advertising to say, merry christmas, rather than happy holidays. we talked with the president of the conservative organization, via skype. >> that's because that's a tradition we exchange gifts on that particular day. so there is nothing wrong with acknowledging christmas. in your promotions and advertising and greetings. >> his organization issues an

annual naughty or nice list of companies. and for the first time, san francisco based gap is listed as nice. no decorations up yet at the stores we stopped by, but wildman is declaring victory for what he describes as hol say change after years of talk with the gap. >> they will make a conscious effort to say merry christmas in their advertising and in their stores. >> gap is not admitting to bowing to pressure, simply saying in a statement, this season we're including a number of seasonal greetings, such as merry christmas, happy hanukkah and joyous kwanza. he thinks a more inclusive message is the way to go. >> happy holidays. you know why? in this community, there are thousands of muslims and jewish people. >> shoppers we talked to seem

fine with either greeting. >> to me, it doesn't bother me either way. i can say merry christmas or i can say happy holidays. or i don't know, something in another language. >> it does matter to some people. but by the way, we saw a gap commercial from last year. and it does include the words merry christmas along with other holiday greetings, including happy kwanza. you and i can both get behind happy thanksgiving there. >> no issue there. >> we are focused on the seven-day outlook, and the day after as well, a biggy for the shopping. here is live doppler 7 hd, very quiet and perhaps by wednesday. that busy travel day. we will have returns here but the winds have definitely lightened up. that allows temperatures to drop nearly 25 degrees up in the north bay and we had a much clearer shot but with just a little moisture at the surface. here's the view from mount tam. little hazy. little foggy in spots.

on richardson's bay. 49 in san francisco. 51 in oakland with mid 40s. from red wood cities. half moon bay. high of 67. don't think it'll be that warm today. easterly winds have really backed off but still a light off-shore flow will keep us clear throughout the day today. plenty of sunshine and low 40s. you are at freezing earlier. 46 in nevada. fairfield has fog. and mid 40s, kind of cool, for you in livermoore valley and concorde. yesterday, 62. so everyone has been in the range of about 5 degrees or so. so fairly uniform and this ridge of high pressure is strong and it is back with us for the next couple of days. along with more sunshine through tuesday. perhaps a few high clouds on tuesday and we are looking at right now, just a chance of rain for wednesday and thursday as this system want to stay a

little bit further off-shore. taking the rain away from the bay area. all of california is quiet. in fact we were very cold. with light winds this morning. high pressure building into the state and that allows for more fair skies. chilly nights and about seasonal temperatures through the next couple of days. good snow making. afternoon highs, cool today in the mid 40s. up through the 50s in the next couple of days. 53 in yosimete. cool at the coast but not as cool as it could be. here is the system dropping down from the gulf of alaska and right now from this forecast model, looks like it'll stay relatively off-shore. and so that will keep the chance. rain cloudy skies and cooler conditions leading up to thanksgiving and showers for thanksgiving. but the day after, looks like we will be fine in the showers focused in southern california. temperatures today, from the low
