abc7 news starts with breaking news. >> the breaking news comes from alameda. i am eric thomas. >> several are homeless after an overnight fire in an apartment complex and some are pointing their finger at one of their neighbors. amy? >> investigators are looking into the possibility that a man who lives in the apartment building set a fire they had to rescue him from the balkan where -- the balcony where he was stranded. he is called a "person of interest" in the case. this were a total of seven people who lived inside this four unit building in alameda and everyone did get identity okay. i talked to a woman would had to climb down from hour balcony saying she woke up from the smell of smoke and show knew hour home was on fire when she heard the glass breaking.

i knew i had to get out. win i had moment but there is no time when it is fire. >> shot of the police car with the man inside. he was placed in handcuffs before being put in the car. officers cover up the car with a blanket when they saw our cameras and he tried to shield his face from us. residents say he recently was seven add throw day overviction notice and they tell us he had said "i am going to burn the place down." police say it is under investigation. a firefighter was hurt and taken to the hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion. they got the call at 2:47 this morning and they say it was a huge fire and they had to go into defensive mode. it wasn't safe to be inside but the fire now is out and they are calling the building a total loss. >> a long-term if a check on the

alameda firefighters are still on the scene of an overnight apartment fire. our reporter, amy hollyfield, has been talking to the firefighters and has the details >> firefighters are looking into the possibility a man who lived inside the apartment building set the fire and incredibly, we have him on camera confessing to setting the fire. we will play that in a second. first, though, the fire. look at the pictures: it was huge. firefighters say it was so big they had to take a defensive mode. they could not rush inside to put this out. they had to help evacuate people. there are seven people living inside the four unit building and a woman had to climb down from her balcony to get out safely. there was no other way to get out. they say they believe a man who lives in the building set the fire. he was just released from the psychiatric ward and served a three-day eviction notice and said "i'm going to burn the play

down." we have an interview with him captured right before he was taken into police custody. >> i'm the one that started it. i take full responsibility. awhatd what can you say happene? >> i was crazy. crazy. it was instigated by my neighbors who say i was a pedophile. i showed that image was taken away in a police car. though took a firefighter to the hospital to be treat the for heat exhaustion and they think everyone else is okay but the building is a total loss.

>> happening now the thanksgiving travel rush is on but an east coast storm threatens to delay passengers trying to fly out of sfo. >> our news reporter is inside terminal with a look how it is going. >> we have had changes on the flight board mostly on the arrival side. many of the changes are early arrivals. miami, new york, we have seen washington and dallas. the schedule times have changed to half an hour earlier than originally scheduled. this is what i point out on the departure side in the last 10 minutes we saw philadelphia, usually impacted by the storm on the east coast, the scheduled time to depart is 9:10 and now changed to 10:40 this morning. we could probably expect more delays like that to happen here today. more and more people are starting to arrive here at sfo and the security line has grown

over the past hour and sfo is expecting 63,000 people to fly out and another 63,000 to fly in today. most of the people we spoke with purposefully booked an early flight to avoid the big lines expected. >> we got an early start. my daughter had a couple of school things to wrap up before we headed off so we got an early start and it is moving smoothly. >> this is what is causing concern for travelers today, the storm hitting the the east coast and driving to the airport could be dangerous and flying to stress out passengers. la guardia has an hour delay and flights from fill have a two hour delay and back out here you can see there is still room to grow at the security line which has been short all morning long and it is still early. officials recommend you get here an hour and a half early for domestic flights and two hours

football coach, teacher and athletic director at john f. kennedy high school and hit and killed by a car saturday morning on interstate 680 as he tried to direct traffic around the accident. hundreds gathered for a vigil at john f. kennedy high school. he coached the football team for 25 years and was athletic director. >> the kids lose in this situation. he was a remarkable man. >> officials say he had four children. the school is planning a more formal memorial before christmas. >> animal control officers are calling it a horrific act of cruelty. somebody threw two cats off san francisco's embarcadero into the bay. it happened near pier 4 at 4:00 on monday afternoon. a man approach add homeless woman, grabbed her cat carrier and threw it in water. it appears to be random. fire crews found one cat dead. they could not locate the other
