different. right now quite mild up here. we have high clouds up above we're about to go under a freeze watch. many of us will be dealing with subfreezing temperatures as you look right now, clouds just passing through. they will keep us inside lated. the freeze watch first begins in the authority bay tuesday night into wednesday morning. of course roekt your pets, plants and pipes. and then it extends to the rest of the bay area with the xt essential of san francisco wednesday night into thursday morning. there is increased risk of hypothermia, so be careful. the coast will be down to the mid-30s wednesday, thur. b thursday, but inland mid-20s wednesday morning, widespread freeze thursday morning. we're looking at low 20s showing up. so widespread freezing conditions. it's time to pull out all your winter clothing. i'll be back with a look at what other signs of winter coming

early. warming shelters are opening up throughout the bay area in preparation for this week's cold snap. three shelters in the south bay will open in the next hour at 6:00 providing 275 beds for those who don't have a warm place to stay at night. the shelters are run by ehc life builders who which provide help for the homeless along with a place to sleep, people will also get a meal and a chance to take a hot shower. the shelters are located in san jose, sunnyvale and gilroy. beds are available on a first come first serve basis. just as people need to take shelter from the frigid temperatures that are coming, so will some of your plants. wayne freedman is live from in pleasant hill. looks like peel aople are takine warning seriously. >> reporter: they're beginning to take it seriously. we'll get the more of the plants in a moment. the strange thing about this day was walking around the east bay doing a story about cold weather on a day as nice as this one.

crash in the san francisco bay failed in his latest effort to resume his career. mercury news reports the judge it is missed the captain's lawsuit seeking to get his license back. he served time in prison after investigators found he was going too fast in foggy conditions and was under the influence of prescription drugs when the oil tanker crashed in to the bay bridge in most of of 2007 causing one of the worst ecological disasters in san francisco bay history. a fire inside a glass factory in oakland did not spread to the building today. it started at 10:30 this morning. a glass production line became clogged, that's what sparked the fire. it was contained to three basins and did that reach the walls or ceiling. no one was hurt. sasha fleischman home for thanksgiving after being badly burned had another milestone. she went back to school for the first time in almost a month.

lee an woe len dez has the story. >> i think every at school is excited to see me. >> reporter: that's what sasha told us in a previous interview before arriving at school today. the 18-year-old was driven to school by mom. sash that, who has to wear leg band argues, slowly walked alone towards the school entrance. sasha's motherhood worries today. >> stamina wise, they have been through a tremendous horrific thing and the healing is still going to be going on for months. >> it wasn't a huge fire, but it was pretty scary. >> reporter: a month ago, sasha was on board a transit bus and had fallen asleep when a 16-year-old boy set sasha's skirt on fire. the 16-year-old has been arrested and charged as an adult. sasha acknowledged having limitations. >> i can't walk as fast.

i need to be more careful physically. >> reporter: the school director says sasha's arrival today was low key. >> sasha is the kind of person that would just want to slip right back in. so we didn't really have anything planned today, but i know we're all thrilled to have sasha bag. >> reporter: mom says she will continue to transport sasha back and forth. she adds, eventually sasha wants to start taking the bus again. but only with friends. lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. a former stanford student is challenging the no fly list in a san francisco courtroom today. he was detained in 2005 and told she was on the terrorist watch list. she denies any terror connection. she is suing on get her name off that list. government lawyers worry a trial would reveal classified tore about how they assemble the no fly list. residents in is an carlos are worried natural gas is once again flowing through the

pipeline that has been at the center of controversy. today pg and e restarted a line that runs along a 4 mile stretch under britain avenue. we're live in san francisco on the story. heather, you've heard from their ceo. >> reporter: yes. and we rarely hear from him. he's at a hearing here. pg and e is in trouble with the regular late tore again for waiting ten months to tell the ppuc about discovery of a major discrepancy in its pipeline records. of course that has to do with the is an carlos pipeline. it found out in october of last year that that 4 mile natural gas line, line 147, under britain avenue was an old welded pipe from the 1920s when its record shows something else. but that october 2012 discovery was not reported to the ppuc until august of this year. the problem was hauntingly similar to faulty records considered a contributing factor

to the 2010 pipeline explosion in san bruno that killed eight people. they're considering a fine of $6 millionhe >> i cannot understand how any organization that is committed to public safety and transparency he especially one affected by a tragedy like san bruno could allow the facts to lie hidden for so long unless it were part of a, quote, deliberate and calculated attempt to mislead the commission. >> our mantra is find it and fix it. i want to underscore that that's exactly what we did with line 147. when a leak was discovered, we fixed it. when a discrepancy in the records was identified, we investigated and corrected it. >> reporter: early also told the commission that there was never a safety concern, there was never any danger to the

from the event recorders, shows that the train was traveling approximately 82 miles per hour as it went into a 30 mile-per-hour curve. >> that's the ntsb talking about this weekend's rain accident in new york that killed four and injured 75 others. investigators say the train's brakes did not fully engage until just five seconds before that crash. it's too early to tell if it human error is to blame, but investigators have confiscated the phone of the train operator to see if any calls or texts were made around the time of this derailment. a shark killed a man kayaking off the coast of hawaii today. it happened in maui. the man, possibly a tourist, was hanging his feet while fishing. a woman survived her encounter. two deadly shark attacks in australia on saturday. a teen was killed while swimming and last week a father of two

was mauled while surfing. 750,000 and counting. that is how many visitors the white house says have been to the government's healthcare.gov website by late today. some people are still experiencing delays, however. the white house says those users are being placed in and on the did the line waiting room. they're hoping they will stick away until speedier service returns. in the meantime, the supreme court turned away a christian university attempt to overturn a key part of the administration's health care law. liberty university challenged the portion of the law that required most employers to provide health insurance to their workers or pay a fine. this case was one of biggest remaining legal fights against the health care law. meanwhile the states today opened and online insurance exchange for small businesses. the program comes two months after covered california opened for individuals and families. the supreme court also upheld the collection of online

shopping at work. so many of us did it that it became known as cyber monday. so with laptops, tablets, smartphones and free wi-fi, is there really a cyber hmonday left? there are certainly a lot of deals, many are online only. we don't have solid numbers yet, but if the weekend sales figures hold, online shopping should increase by as much as 40%, could even be 50% over last year. a recent survey has half of all americans shopping online today. that we do know, great news for retailers. but even better news for fedex. the delivery giant says this will be its busiest day of the rear. the company plans to move 22 million packages today alone. now, to get that done, fedex has 300,000 employees deploying 660 aircraft to 220 countries. 90,000 trucks and a handful of boats and bicycles will fan out

to make those deliveries. many of those packages will hold design goods like purses and that brings us to this warning. be carefully when shopping online. demonstrators are expected to return tomorrow to the site of a former chevy's restaurant to protest tuesday's opening there of a planned parenthood clinic. they picketed this afternoon. the new clinic was supposed to open today, but some of the equipment was not fully
