common place. sears in downtown oakland has been punched and kicked by vandals, demonstrators targeted the retailer repeatedly making repairs costly. so months later the building sits like this. owners trying to hide scars and bruises by boarding windows. sears said this in a statement. we sdroent a definite time frame for replacing window because they date back to 1930s and replacing them is more complicated than those in a typical building. sears isn't the only owner in need of tlc. the department of planning says the retailer has been cited for blight. >> we are now talking to them about when they can really get this fixed. they know it's very important to us and i think it matters to them. >> reporter: she says other small businesses also damaged made many repairs within a week.
