slowing away from the 280 extension but the best alternate is 280. in the east bay, southbound, along 880, in san leandro a crash is on the shoulder involving a big rig and we could have spectator slowing. on the san mateo bridge you can see everything is running mice and clear as we make it to the peninsula and it will take you 12 minutes. >> we have break news from the east bay: a 135,000 square foot building in conquer was destroyed overnight by a huge fire. this is happening east of buchanan field airport. our reporter says the fire was likely burning for several hours before the first crews got there. amy? >> look, they are still here working on this. they have active fire still burning and they letting it bun the roof away so they can get water into building from above. they don't want to go inside. they think it is too dangerous. look at the fire they were

dealing with: it was huge. this was a telephone company called the all phone company. they sold new equipment and also recycled old stuff. they got the call at 12:35 this only but it was probably burning a while. >> this was no fire alarm in the building and without an alarm or sprinkler system it would take someone actually seeing the fire to be something i'll not sure who the original reporting party is but this is not a well traveled road at night. it would only be well traveled if the day tie when people are here in the businesses. >> they were able to keep it from spreading to nearby buildings that are watching around the tell company hoping that the telephone company doesn't collapse and then damage the northbound by buildings. still a lot to watch out for. they will not know if it is structurally sound until the sun

comes up. they say finding out the cause of the fire could take a couple of days. >> thanks, amy hollyfield. the ntsb right now is having the hearing looking into the july crash asiana flight 214 at sfo is thousand underway right new in washington, dc, after several delays. this is a picture of the hearing starting 30 minutes ago and ntsb chairwoman is leading the hearing and saying the session is to make sure another similar incident never happens again. the hearing was originally scheduled to last two days but was packed interest one marathon hearing today after yesterday's session was cancel because of snow. the ntsb is expected to hear a report today that says the pilots of flight 214 shifted the plane auto throttle system into inactive mode and the report says that the mights failed to monitor their speed as they landed at sfo.

on abc7news.com. in south africa this morning, mandela's body is in state in the capital of pretoria where he was sworn in 19 years ago as the first black president. people lined the streets to watch the process singing songs from the struggle against apartheid and calling out farewell to nelson mandela who died last week at the age of 95 with the body lying in state for three days. in san francisco at city hall, there is a condolence book for the public to sign through this friday. >> a new rally will get underway today outside oakland city hall at the plaza and among the attendees is the counsel general of south africa and readings of mandela writings and people can sign the condolence book to send to south africa. >> in stand rose protesters facing a charge of assaulting a police officer after an angry demonstration last night over the shooting deaths of 13-year-old andy lopez by a sheriff's deputy.

temperatures in the east bay valley and property, there, maybe a harder freeze up north with 28 in santa rosa and 27 in napa and the trees warning for tonight is only in the north bay valley from 10:00 to 9:00 tomorrow morning. high pressure in the jet stream, both of those, not really mixing well, with strong ridge pushing the jet extreme up into the arctic and throwing 50 batch of cold air into the eastern part of the country and we start to see a little bit of aerly watching trend that started on monday. we will get to near 60 tomorrow. friday and saturday, as well. low-to-mid 60's for all of us on sunday, monday and tuesday. have a go one. >> can expect heavy delays leave san francisco to make the drive down the peninsula because of the signature alert, it will be around for another 20 minutes. southbound along 101, it is involving three vehicles with a person reported trapped. we have bumper-to-bumper traffic

southbound. northbound side there is specific tea party slowing but it things out closer to the 101 central freeway. at 8th street it is 22 miles per hour and this will affect the drive if you are coming off the bay bridge and we are look at heavier conditions as you make the commute in the westbound direction. also, a disabled car now is reported at treasure island blocking one lane. over the altamont pass, 45 minutes now on westbound 580 from tracy to dublin and it is getting busy. if you are headed out of central san rafael and into san francisco, that drive is only going to take you 21 minutes headed across the golden gate bridge it will be a clear commute. >> something very exciting going on tonight, right? >> yes, indeed. >> the nutcracker kickoff? >> yes a kickoff. >> i got a behind-the-scenes look at the nutcracker before

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> again we are starting with a picture of the ntsb hearing underway right now in washington, dc. this is look into what went wrong with asiana flight 214 crash attestor. this is a boeing test pilot testifying right now the first person to fly the triple 7. three teen girls were killed in the crash in july. our reporter, katie marzullo, is monitoring the hearing with an update in a few minutes. >> good morning, everyone, i am eric thomas. >> i am kristen sze. we have breaking news from concord: 135,000 square foot building is destroyed after huge fire that burns for hours. our reporter has been talking to firefighters and gyps us with that story. amy? >> firefighters are still here. they can not turn their backs on this one.

it is too big. there is still fire burning inside the huge building and they are still putting water on it. they think they had at one point 75,000 square feet of fire burning when they got here. this is a telephone supply company called the all phone company located in concord. there were no alarms in the building. it was burning for a while before they got the call they do believe. plastics and wires have burned which is toxic but firefighters say they do nut want anyone to be too concerned. >> we are not danger and not asking anyone to shelter in place unless you have a breathing ailment such as asthma you would not want to breathe it but the smoke is going straight up at this point. there is no residential areas that are close by. >> no one was hurt in the fire, and firefighters took a

defensive stand fighting it from the outside and they kept it from spreading to other building. they say it could take days before they figure out what starts it. it may not be safe to go in, this morning and it is burning right now and the back side of the building gone. they are still worried about collapse and they are hoping that if that happens, it would not cause any damage to the buildings next door. when the sun comes up they we hope to is a better idea of how sound the building is with a lot to focus on out here right now. >> we want to check in with mike nicco to see which direction the winds are blowing and who could be smelling the smoke. >> when the smoke was going up to the height and the fire was blazing at the greatest this was not much wind but the heat from the fire was carrying the smock up and most people were missing out open it and now it has cooled and the winds have picked up, it will drift to the south and southwest and walnut creek and pleasanton hill and possibly

approaching the central freeway, you are slow and you want to avoid it and use 280. here is what it is doing to the bay bridge, we are looking at extra traffic use make the push in the westbound direction and it is slower there as you round the curve identify to treasure island and a look from walnut creek this is the drive along 680 in the southbound direction through pleasant hill and, also, a busy drive. >> the ntsb hearing into the july crash of asiana flight 214 is underway right now and this is the picture from washington, dc, at issue, what went wrong leading to the deaths of three teen girls. katie marzullo is monitoring the hearing and joining us from the news room. >> we will watch it. right now there are a lot of technical aviation testimony happening but, also, happening right now we are getting testimony from the pilot who was at the control at the time of the crash and the testimony is in the investigative report
