along i280. one person was rush to the hospital and second person died at the scene. no word on suspects or a motive. the contra costa county sheriff's department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened early this morning outside a home in when deputies arrived they found a man lying in the front yard. he did not live at that house. the 25-year-old man was sitting in a car with someone when they were approached by three people, and one of them opened fire, cig the victim. a young girl from oakland is brain dead this morning after going into surgery to have her tonsils removed. now her family is demanding answers. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has more with what happened. >> these are pictures when she first arrived at the children's

hospital mon. she was apprehensive but the mother said she convinced her things would be fine. >> i told her the sergery is to make you better. >> she went in to have her tons i also removed. doctors sid it was to help her with sleep apnea. but in recovering she had disturbing complications. >> she had stuff coming out of her mouth and they give me a pill. >> the grandmother and a nurse at the kaiser oakland hospital, she said she was surprised by when she called a lack of attention by oakland children's hospital staff. >> i went in and i said is this normal? do you guys find this to be normal? and they said i don't really know and then i said well then get a doctor. >> the lift day she took a turn for the worse. >> my daughter went to cardiac arrest and died. they brought her back and now she's brain dead. >> hospital stuff is now asking

to consider removing her in life support. >> they have a social worker following me around all day long do you have any other family that needs to see her? like trying to put a rush on it. >> they are demanding the hospital to conduct an investigation to find out how she could have died following a seemingly routine surgery. but oakland children's hospital representative was not available. they had this prepared response. >> we are very sad about this outcome, about what happened to her but at this point i have no details on the surgery. we will investigate what happened h in surgery there are risks and there can be unexpected and unanticipated complications. the family said they do not tonight remove her from life support. in the newsroom abc7 news. daily city officials rescued a horse who handed under a house

on the side of a cliff at the olympic club. she was treated by paramedics and hoisted to awaiting ambulance in a rescue basket. she was tape to a local hospital. no word on her condition or why the horse threw her. a california highway patrol office who are saved a young boy from a burning van back in 2007 has received a special honor. he keeps in touch with the boy and his family. edgar suffered burns to 85% of his body. he's undergone between 65 and 70 surgeries since this accident. he goes to rehab every week. yesterday edgar presented oscar with a plaque thanking him for saving his life. >> this is just kind of a culmination of all the horrible things this he's had to go through and the perseverance this both he and his family have. it's really something to behold. >> officer whitney said he never

welcome back, everyone. it is 5:12 on this sunday morning. thank you for waking up so early to join us on the abc7 sunday morning news. this is a live look from our emeryville cam. it is near 40 right now. we will be in the mid-60s later on today. across the bay area warmer today and tomorrow. lisa argen will be along shortly with a full accuweather forecast. in colorado investigators say a teenager who wounded a fellow student before killing himself on friday at a suburb an denver high school was-le armed when he entered the school. the gunman, 18-year-old can recall pearson, was motivated which retaliation against a librarian who disciplined him months ago. the teenager did not know the student he shot friday at arapaho high school.

the victim, clair davis, is recovering in the hospital. the share evgeni also says he bought the shotgun legally on december 6th at a local store. investigators say he entered the school with a shotgun, a machete and three incendiary apparatuses before he entered the school. yesterday marked the one year anniversary of the sandy hook elementary school shootings. [bells] >> bell tolled yesterday exactly one year after the gunman open mind. the community asked people to honor the victims through acts of kindness. a man in iran accused the

a bit chilly this morning. another spare the airdy as temperatures continue to rise and the poor air quality not only in the south by but up in the east by as well. we are looking at the high pressure ridge to continue to build throughout the next several days. medium air quality. you will notice the haze north and central by and around the south central bay. but it's the inland east bay you should take it easy. no woodburning in the eighth day of a spare-the-air day season. here is the beach report. high waves, anywhere from 6 to 10 feet. strong rip currents. so if you are thinking of heading to the peach, be very careful. it's going to be very tempting with temperatures well into the 60s both today and tomorrow. and plenty of sunshine. so here's the setup. we talk about high pressure yesterday building in to the east of us and this continues to be our dominant weather feature.

with meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi, carolyn. good morning. we are looking at a chilly start. not as cold as yesterday. numbers will respond to a big dome of high pressure that continues to build. although it will be hazy again with a spare-the-air day. san francisco 47. warmer at the coast. 49 half moon bay, mid-30s for fremont. the chilly numbers toward concord, east bevels and north bay valleys. 28 in novato. we will look for high clouds around the bay today but with temperatures warming throughout the afternoon we will look for hazy conditions and another spare the air day. a look at weather. when will we see rain and when the cooling trend gets underway. >> lisa, we are fortunate. there are two storms coming together at one bringing a blast of winter across nearly two dozen states. rob nelson has the story from massachusetts. >> a huge swath of the country bracing for a snow-covered weekend as this huge weather

system makes its eastward trek, dumping anywhere from a few inches to a few feet. some one thousand flights cancelled throughout the country. but better that be stuck in a tarmac than on the roads with deadly conditions. many of the nation's roads will once again become treacherous, there's opinion at least three massive multi-car wrecks this past weekend alone. a 40 car pileup in michigan, including two police vehicles, blamed on snow and speed. >> thank god my daughter and i are okay. >> he kept on going. >> further east they had to fight fire with ice, dousing this blaze but leaving behind walls of ice just minutes later. in the snowbelt of western new york where people are used to this, motorists said they couldn't see a thing >> it's pretty horrible out there right now. i have four year drive on my car and it's opinion slipping so this is pretty surprising. on my way here you couldn't see

the road. >> with christmas a little more than a week away, holiday shoppers trying to battle the bad weather and trying it finish third gift lists. with the storm getting closer we decided to hit the road ourselves to check on conditions. travel slow but steady. the roads getting slightly are worse as we reached massachusetts. we are among the lucky. every year more than 1300 people are killed and nearly 117,000 injured in snow-related crashes. in his report rob nelson talked about flights. you should know that the storm is not having a major impact on flights at bay area airports. yesterday only sfo reported some storm related cancellations. 11 in all. 7 arriving flights and 4 departing flights. this morning ac transit riders are seeing major route changes. they are adding more than 15,000 hours of bus service each year. they will affect more than 50 bus lines from fremont to

richmond. it's changing the routing of some lines, adding new ones, and eliminating others like shopper shuttles this have low providedder ship. fremont and newark will see the biggest improvements after years of service cuts. the route changes come as contract talks are scheduled to continue tomorrow between ac transit and the union representing bus drivers and mechanics. members of the union have boycotted driver sign-ups for both the new and existing bus routes. they say the changes violate the terms of the cooling-off period set to expire one week from today. tomorrow the city of san rafael will consider whether to rizgar best knowledge and recycling rates. our media partner reports the city council will review the maximum rate the marin son tear can charge customers. the proposed rate increase for next year is just over 5.5%.

morning. milder numbers from san francisco. but oakland 35 this morning. had a record yesterday of 31 degrees. but in the afternoon it managed 66 degrees for you folks in our near east bay. another milddy today. starting out chilly. 4 on the peninsula, 35 los gatos and half moon bay already at 41 degrees. so we are warmer, almost everywhere but take a look at these inland valley temperatures from our east by to the north by. it's chilly and we have fog from santa rosa, napa, even petaluma. 28. 30 fairfield and mid-30s livermore. it will be another spare the air day today. so it will be hazy out there and we will be looking for, once again, that big ridge of high pressure to dominate our weather. so that puts a lid on the atmosphere. not allowing for much mixing and the mild pattern, although it will begin to break down tuesday. we have above normal temperatures tuesday afternoon. beach has considered today and

tomorrow. timing not great bus the mildest day is this afternoon, tomorrow afternoon. so the beach will look pretty nice. but strong rip currents and which are looking at some pretty high surf out there. very dangerous for the surfers, as well. keep this in mind. pacific satellite we are looking at not only the high pressure to the west of us but to the east of us. this one is our dominant weather feature. we will look for it to stay with us. it begins to break down on tuesday. we will have a weak weather system pass overhead. it isn't until the middle part of the week when we get much cooler weather and gusty offshore winds. the short term, the warmer put earn developing, and no rain for the next week or so. possibly right through the middle of next -- the following week. so we are tucking the end of the year. 58 yosemite, 55 in tahoe. looking at those warmer afternoon readings starting out about 9 in truckee, 12 at the airport, mid-60s for monterey
