at mineta airport where terminal a was evacuated because of flood. our reporter, matt keller, is in terminal a with more on how the water is being cleaned up, how long it will take and what happened. matt? >> of course, this happens on a monday. check it out. still, a big mess. passengers can still check in at terminal a but getting on the plane is an adventure. a hot water line ruptured at 2:30 trying the fire alarm and sprinklers. the upper legal of terminal a is flooded and the water looks to the baggage and check in air. the fire alarm was turned off before 4:30 and passengers are checking in with no idea what happens next. >> bummer to see this when you arrive at your airport to leave on monday morning. >> yes, it will probably change things. maybe. or maybe not. >> hoping for the best. >> always. disneyland trip so you cannot go

yesterday so maybe you will not have to fight the kids to get them bundled up this morning. mid-to-upper 60's is what we are going for today, and holding santa rosa at 72 like yesterday but everyone else is anywhere from three to eight degrees warmer and san jose is 70 and morgan hill is 72 and santa cruz is 70 and half moon bay is not too bad at 64 degrees. high clouds and sun and another "spare the air" day so wood burning and banned again. leyla gulen? >> we have an accident in san jose southbound along 880 up to the alameda area, we have a lane blocked and we do have a little bit of slowing but it is in the northbound direction. it is volume that is building as folks try to make it over to san jose airport and southbound is where the commute is affected but it does not appear to affect anything. here is the drive coming along highway four in the westbound direction from antioch and into pittsburg to bay point and concord and most of it is green.

that mean us are at top speed and we are at 14 minutes. a picture of the bay bridge toll plaza where we have cars that are funneling in away from the maze into san francisco and we do not have too many folks that are making it in the westbound direction. >> happening today, we will hear official recommendations for safety improvements around the chevron refinery in richmond. a government agency will release a report on last year post massive fire that sent thousands of neighbors to the hospital. amy hollyfield is in richmond with that story. amy? >> yes, kristen, there are changes coming here to chevron. the almost indications come today from the federal agency which has investigated the fire that happened here in august of 2012. that is when 15,000 needed medical treatment because of the fire and the refinery shut down for months. the report is recommending changes in how refineries are

regulated in california say california needs to look at australia and other countries as examples. investigators are critical of chevron if using old equipment that needed to be replaced. chevron has said it is working to improve safety at the refinery. the recommendations are released in a press conference today. >> residents of vallejo are raising awareness after a string of violence that left several people dead. people decembered last night for a candlelight vigil to remember those who were shot and killed. police say there have been five reports of gunfire including two wounded since saturday afternoon. early last week there were two homicides hours apart with two additional homicides taking place days before. many people who attended the vigil say they are tired of all of the violence. >> like the wild, wild west in vallejo and i have to say

something needs to give. it is getting real bad. >> police are having trouble getting information from witnesses in the recent string of violence. >> a man is dead this morning after being shot a carjacking in new jersey at an up-scale mall. a husband and wife finished holiday shopping and were car jacked returning to their vehicle. the husband died at the hospital overnight. the woman was not shot but was taken if for treatment. the suspects took off in the new range recovery. >> the family of an oakland girl on life support hopes to talk with the doctor who performed the tonsil surgery. the 13-year-old jahi mcmath had her tonsils removed at oakland children's hospital and developed complications and went into cardiac arrest after the operation. the doctors have declared her brain dead. the family says they refuse to remove her from life support. a hospital spaniel says that the staff is saddened about jahi

mcmath's condition and the hospital will investigate of the. >> the city of san francisco is officially rolling out free wi-fi along market street. the chronicle reports that network covers three miles long the main thoroughfare from castro to the embarcardero. the mayor says a quarter of a million people will benefit from the three wi-fi service each day. bay area-based wireless is paying for the $700,000 project. google is also giving the city a $600,000 grand to pay for wi-fi installation in 13 parks and plazas city-wide starting in july. >> if you are headed to the post office today you will have plenty of company. the postal service expects today to be the busiest mailing day with 607 million items processed 60 million more than a regular day. americans will spend -- send 15 billion pieces of mail between thanksgiving day and new year's

freezing and i want to show you what going on with another clipper system headed to minneapolis and a dusting to washington and baltimore but by far you can see it is quiet across most of the country, just really cold and becoming breezy with the arctic plunge developing. 1.5 mile visibility at santa rosa and we have dog there, and everyone else is doing good and hazy around hayward and concord. now, to the north bay, we are at 33 and freezing temperatures at guerneville which is the only place with black ice and 36 in santa rosa so that is good news for the folks driving around there with the thicking for and 46 in novato and 45 in san rafael, and 52 in mill valley and bodega bay and 52 in san francisco and 61 at half moon bay and that is pretty darn warm. we have upper 30's in newark and cupertino and san jose and lafayette and 47 in alameda, and redwood city is 34 and san ramon is 40. today as we look from the tower

abc7 news begins with breaking news. we have break news from the south bay. >> more on the breaking news from san jose international airport with crews trying to clean up a wet mess left behind by a broken water pipe in terminal a. matt keller is at the airport with more. matt? >> yes, here is my advise if you are headed to the san jose airport this morning: wear comfortable shoes and pack light. you will be doing a lost walking. you are going to be carrying your luggage. there is the big mess left behind. the hot water line broke triggering the sprinklers, flooding bag area, and terminals can check in at terminal a but then they have to go to a shuttle bus to terminal b and go through security there and walk back over to their departure gate at terminal a. it is a lot of walking and time. this is causing a longs of an -- a lot of an." >> i don't want to miss a flight

out there. the dry time traffic shows everything in the grown so you at top speed. this is the drive through walnut creek southbound long 680, busy but traffic is moving. kristen? >> this morning there are no reports of damage or injury after a small earthquake in sonoma county. the 2.8 earthquake was reported at 9:55. according to the experts it happened southeast of the geysers. >> this morning, fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that left up to 30 people homeless. the fire broke out inside an apartment complex near union street at powell. firefighters knocked it down in 40 minutes but there is significant fire and water damage. the fire began on the top floor and businesses on the bottom floor will had water water dama.

>> sacred heart will give out 3,000 food boxes today to families in need offer the next these days. people receiving food boxes waited for hours if line last month to sign up. on friday, the nonprofit is holding a toy give away for children but says it doesn't have anywhere close to all the toys it needs. they are asking the public to drop off cash or a toy donation to help out. students at the middle school get their first look at $1 million makeover when they return to class this morning. bay area tech company gave the school a makeover rather than having the company holiday party. 1,500 employees and members of the community spent friday and saturday on the project including everything from a resurfaced black township to a new baseball field which was paid for by the company, the city of san jose and alum rock school district. >> berkeley is warning students and visitors to be careful on and near campus.

five students have been robbed in the past week leaving money, cell phones and listen tops. common sense is the best defense to prevent becoming a target. >> watch out for the surroundings, walk in well lit areas and pay attention to what is going on around you and do not be so engrossed with your cell phone or texting or looking at the intent. >> a 38-year-old man was robbed at a clothing store off campus and anyone was hurt in the crimes. students taking advantage of escorts and shuttles. >> transportation leaders will hold a meeting on improving roads around california especially in the bay area. the meeting will hook at ways to begin an overhaul of local highways with a report by national transportation research group finds that san jose ranked 3rd for the poorest roads among the 20 biggest urban areas with the san francisco and oakland metropolitan area ranking as the 2nd worst. >> commuters on act -- a.c.
