the metal management plant here at the end of the seaport boulevard in redwood city and air quality is obviously a big issue for people in this area as officials are meeting to determine if they will call for a "shelter in place." the first 9-1-1 calls came in before 1:00 o'clock am with reports of an explosion. firefighters arrived and found a huge pile of appliances on file 75' by 100' and 25' high. county offices of emergency services of meeting right new to determine what to do as far as the air quality issues and they have not decided if a "shelter in place" is called for but we expect an announcement soon. the redwood city fire marshal says there are chemicals that are harmful like all fires but do not have specific on the byproducts going out in that smoke. another issue is the people trying to get to work with big office buildings at the end of the boulevard and police are blocking it off at east bay shore and there is in word on if

abc7 news stars right now with breaking news the. >> the breaking news is on the peninsula with a fire burning at a metal recycling plant the second time in five weeks. our reporter is at the plant in redwood city with the latest. matt? >> we have a through warning for people in the area. firefighters are saying if you smell smoke stay inside. close the doors. close your windows. this is why. the huge plume of smoke coming off of the metal management plant. the first 9-1-1 calls in redwood city were reports of a big explosion. firefighters arrived and fund a
