firefighters reveal what is rare about this wildfire. >> developing in san francisco. a home collapses in the twin peaks main. neighbors tell us what was happening right before the fall. >> thanks for joining us at 6:00 on tuesday. >> i am kristen sze. >> i am eric thomas. >> flames burning at sims metal recycling plant in redwood city. matt, what is happening right now? >> i spoke with the redwood city fire marshal and he said the fire is now contained. any working on control. check out this huge plume smoke coming off the sims metal management plant off of seaport boulevard. this is no shelter in place for the area but they are advising people to stay inside and close whens and doors if you smell smoke. the first 9-1-1 calls were reports after big explosion. firefighters found a huge pile

of appliance on pile at 75 feet by 100' and 25' highs. hundreds work near this area at the end of seaport boulevard. >> they told us there was a fire down there and there are toxic fumes and the cops wearing masks so i would rather be out here where i have a chance rather than being stuck in my building with a higher concentration. >> last fire happened last month which was a pile cars and big we than this. firefighters are fighting this fire the same using heavy equipment to separate debris to try to get the fire out. back out here this is no word on how long the police will keep seaport boulevard blocked but a lot people are leaving the parking lot cross the street and are headed home. they beginning to wait. they have been here for two hours waiting to see if they can get to work and now they bet we off at home at this hour and

they may head back here tomorrow to try to get in to work. hopefully the fire will be out by then. >> last month a scrap metal fire at the same location forced san mateo and santa clara counties to issue a health advisory. it took 19 hours to put owe the fire in the pile of crushed cars. sims metal management had a similar fire back in 2020. nownow we will check with mike nicco. >> great question, we will look at the country conditions at a site next to the fire at 46 degrees and humidity is high which is good for firefighters and the winds are blowing from the southwest to the northeast so it is going to cross the bay and head over to fremont, newark, union city and those areas, possibly up to hayward over the next couple of hours.

abc7 news begins with breaking news. the breaking news comes from afghanistan. >> we hear from nato that six united states soldiers were killed in afghanistan in what appears to be a helicopter crash. a defense official says there was no enemy or insurgent activity in the region. they believe that the helicopter the soldiers were in suffered an engine problem and that is when it want down. it happened on tuesday. we are gathering more information and will bring it to you. >> we will check on the weather forecast before you head out the door. mike, what is going on? >> we have high clouds again and that has kept us above freezing and mid-40's in most of the bay areas. and low 60's throughout the afternoon, and quiet 54 degrees, comfortable for the evening, but you will need a coat. limited frost.

until that fire is put out. >> thank you. that is a problem because that is an industrial area with offices and people should be headed there at 6:32. we will follow the breaking news on the pens lax. >> the fire is burning in redwood city. if you have heard this before, yes, that is because the fire buns there five weeks ago. our news reporter is at the sims recycling plant with an update. >> it feels like deja vu. a little more than a month ago a fire started here at the sims metal president plant and now we have another one going, a particular plume of smoke coming from the plant. the fire is different though, a haunt pile of allow ans is burning. last month it was a pile cars. it started with a huge explosion, a pile of appliances is 75' by 100' and 25' high. the redwood city fire department is advising people in the area to stay inside and shut their

frightening home collapse in san francisco's twin peaks unable. our reporter is there live and tells us police just got there? >> yes, police just arrived and they say they are here because they want to keep people away from the area. they still consider it unstage and risky. the house slipped last week. it was scary. the home was unconstruction and it was on a steep hill in the twin peaks neighborhood. those who heard it say it sounded like a loud crash. >> we responded here because someone called and third a loud crash and felt like an earthquake. obviously, we responded and we secured the area and made sure that the citizens would be in danger and no one was in this project. thank god. >> police evacuated a home as a precaution. they say it was very lucky that
