tonight we have a winner. at least one ticket matching up a six mega millions numbers was sold here in the bay area at jennie's gifts in san jose. somebody is rich. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm carolyn johnson. here are the winning numbers, 8, 14, 17, 20, 39 and the mega ball is 7. john alston is live in san jose outside of that very lucky store. john? >> and very long odds. the owner of the store says he has no idea who bought the winning ticket. >> thanks again.

>> what time are you opening the store? >> he will be a lucky winner and share a pot. he runs jennie's gift shop that sells gifts and kids gear and it sells a big fat lottery ticket. we understand there was a winner in georgia as well. the sign beside me has $636 million and that will be changing to 15. somebody here will be very, very wealthy. >> i got two times seven. >> this security guard checked his lottery tickets immediately when he found out the place where he bought them had sold the jackpot winner. >> the owner came and give me the notice and give me -- i win, i win! i sold the ticket here. >> word spread to the other businesses near jennie's gift shop that lottery lightning struck a few doors away. >> it is good for san jose and

hopefully somebody will be rich. >> california lottery officials were making hey over the jackpot win for the golden state. >> can i just say woo-hoo! finally! we just made some change in the mega millions and i know a lot of people are talking about it is harder to win because the odds have increased. but it happens when we make the changes. it is more exciting and the jackpot rises higher and people are excited about it. >> in san lorenzo there was a last-minute frenzy around 7:45 as the cutoff approached. this woman got the last ticket. >> it means i hope i am lucky. >> the 636 million-dollar jackpot brought in some first time players. >> i had never played the lottery before in my life. i am here today for the first time. maybe i will get luck. >> and two other big winners in california. five out of five numbers sold in chula vista and san diego.

those tickets are worth $2.6 million. >> well, our bad air will not go away. tomorrow is the 11th straight spare the air day. we have time lapse video to show you of the haze over the bay area. this is the east bay hills camera and you can see the high clouds are moving quickly, but the smog is staying put. it is due in part to the weather and no rain or wind and two fires. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more on how people are dealing with the unhealthy air. >> if you weren't anywhere in santa clara county you were bound to notice an odor in the air and a haze in the sky. it got so bad the santa clara county health department issued this alert. suggesting children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems stay inside. >> it is not a day to trade

news. >> another spare the air day. sandhya patel is here with live doppler 7hd. when is the bad air going to get here? >> it blb blowing out -- it will be blowing out. let's check out live doppler 7hd. our radar is tracking a few sprinkles southwest of monterey. don't be surprised if you do see a few in the south bay where visibility is poor. look at that. six miles in san jose and there is a low in livermore, five miles and as you look at this view from the sutro tower camera, spare the air has been issued and it is the 11th straight for tomorrow. moderate air quality for all parts of the bay area. santa clara valley will be poor. east bay hills you can see all of the pollution trapped near the ground. the end is near and we will be talking about fresher, cleaner air in the bay area. back with the details in a few. carol a lynn? >> thank you. >> today the state measured the air quality at more than four times the safe amount. smoke can be seen burning in space.

nasa released this satellite image. firefighters have it 20% contained and it burned 800 acres of land and destroyed 17 homes and eight other structures. 300 other homes were evacuated. for now the wind in the area is calm, but firefighters say that can be a help and a hindrance. >> it lets the smoke sit in here that is also something that shields us from the sun and limits the air access for the helicopter support that we would appreciate. >> dry conditions are helping to fuel the fire. big sur averages 45 inches of air and has had seven inches this year. >> tonight the family of an eighth grade girl declared brain dead is fighting tooth and nail to save their daughter. they served a cease and assist order telling the hospital not to pull the plug. abc7 news president arer alan wang is live -- reporter alan wang is live at the hospital. it is a heart wrenching story. >> it is very heart

wrenching. her family is at her bedside tonight. children's hospital had intended on taking her off life support today. they declared her brain dead last thursday and had no obligation to keep her on life support, that is until a lawyer stepped in. >> it was a small victory for us and things are a little more at ease now that we know they will not rush in and take her off life support. >> because this 13-year-old's latest eeg test showed no brain activity, the family says it was being pressured by children's hospital oakland to take her off life support. but today a lawyer for the family issued a cease and assist order. hours later the hospital agreed to keep her on a ventilator, even though they claim to have the legal authority to remove her from life support. >> the important thing to note is those laws were put on the books by families that sought to remove their loved ones from life support and not families that sought to preserve their loved ones. >> how far and how long will

the family want to take this? >> until she wakes up. >> it is unknown why she went into cardiac arrest last week after a routine tonsil surgery. the hospital says it is not authorized by the family to comment and they cannot correct any miss perceptions. >> i believe god has the final say so for my daughter and i want everybody to pray for her everywhere. >> the family will hold a public prayer vigil tomorrow in oakland at paradise baptist church. in oakland, alan wang, abc7 news. >> a big rig ran over and killed a bicyclist. the woman was hit at fifth and market streets at 6:15 this evening. police believe the backside of the trailer may have clipped her as the driver was turning a corner. they say the truck dragged her and the bicycle down fifth street. a witness followed the truck calling police frantically. officers finally pulled the truck over seven blocks later on broadway. a chp dispatcher is

accused of using information she received at work to help the hells angels in vallejo get away with crime. sara and her husband dennis face several charges. he is a convicted felon who faces weapons and drug charges. federal agents say she is charged with possession of methamphetamine for sale as well as bribery. new at 11:00, the push to protect your smart phone in san francisco. a new survey by the district attorney's office finds 78% of iphone owners have the find my iphone app activated. it tracks a lost or stolen iphone and can make it inoperable. the study is the latest move by district attorney george gascone and trying to make a kill switch mandatory. they say people would use the anti-theft technology. bart plans to give holiday riders the gift of safety with security escorts at three stations. the idea is to get people, many coming home from the holiday shopping trips to their cars safely.

reno tonight where there has been a deadly shooting in a medical building. right now detectives are on the scene looking for clues. a gunman killed one person and wounded two others before taking his own life. the two wounded are undergoing

surgery. one is a doctor. here is more now from brandy hit. >> the lone gunman entered the center for the advancement of medicine. >> we had officers immediately respond and enter the building. we started a room by room search. >> they found two people dead including the gunman. he also wounded two others before taking his own life. >> the shooters is one of the deceased yes. appears to be a self-inflicted shooting. >> it is the largest hospital in northern nevada. the hospital is now safe and secure as they try to track down a motive for the attack. abc news, los angeles. >> well, another reason why they call dogs man's best friend, sometimes they come to the rescue. orlando is a guide dog and when his dog owner started feeling faint on a manhattan platform, orlando tried to study him.

tracking moisture to the south. nothing is reaching the ground in san jose. we have a little green off the monterey coast. don't be surprised if you get a few sprinkles. visibility is good and looking out toward the bay. it is 55 in san francisco. it is 45 in redwood city. oakland has dropped to the upper 40s along with los gatos. 52 in san jose. today was so mild. the temperatures were in the mid60s to the low 70s. down around the monterey bay, in the mid70s. that's all going uh way. from our exploratorium camera, a few whispy clouds. napa and petaluma, you are feeling the cold air already. it is 46 in livermore and from our east bay hills camera, once again we do have a spare the air alert for tomorrow. it is the 11th straight one. cooler and breezy for the afternoon. gusty winds expected on thursday. wind advisory has been added. we will talk about that a in a moment. here is the cold front that will bring a switch in our wind direction. much cooler air for your

wednesday and your thursday is when you really feel it. tomorrow morning just a few high, thin whispy clouds. you don't have to worry about a jacket or sweater. a little drizzle tomorrow night and it is really after that we will be tracking a few drops around monterey. chillier, windy day for your thursday afternoon and your evening as well. here is a look at the wind forecast and see what will happen on wednesday evening. fresh air arrives. finally. the wind will be coming off the ocean and that will bring in winds of around 30, 35 miles an hour. it is enough to clean up out and scour out the pollution. by thursday we are looking at good air quality across the entire bay area. the downside to the wind 1* we are expecting the wind advisory to begin at midnight and go until 6:00 p.m. the gusts could be as high as 60 miles an hour and the trees and the power lines may be down. north bay mountains and east bay hills, that's where we are expecting the strongest winds. be careful. if the wind continues we may
