ticking time bomb. the massive security breech affecting every target store in the country. >> credit card information stolen. millions of customers could be victims. >> good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama dates in for carolyn johnson. you could be a victim. >> john alston is live at the city target in san francisco with the story. john? >> hackers picked the busiest shopping season of the year to launch their scheme. they may have hit nearly all 1800 target stores coast to coast over the past two and a half weeks. shoppers in san francisco didn't leave the target store on geary with a warm feeling after hearing about the massive security breech knowing they had used a credit card here. >> it is scary. like i said, this is the first time i have heard of that.

i am curious how that happened in the first place. >> no one is saying for sure, but they believe hackers broke into the computer network stealing data collected when customers swipe the strip on the back of the debit and credit cards. >> it lets them take that information and encode it on to a new card. essentially it will duplicate the card and use it as if it is their credit card at any store. >> come suiter security expert broke the story and said stolen was stolen from black friday until this past sunday. it did not affect on-line sales at target. it is unknown if debit card pin numbers were breached which would allow crooks to drain cash directly from atm's. it could take months for target shoppers to learn if they are the victims. >> you as a card holder are not liable for the charges, but there is a catch. you have to report it. you have to say i didn't make these transactions.

>> several hundred people were at the baptist church praying for a medical miracle. >> i want to thank everybody who came out. a lot of these people don't even know my daughter. >> 13-year-old jiha is on life support at children's hospital where doctors declared her brain dead. so far no one explained why she went into cardiac arrest after routine tonsil surgery last week. today the family's attorney issued a let torte hospital -- letter demanding her medical records. children's hospital will not released the entire medical record while the patient is admitted because the doctors are continually updating it. >> it is somewhat of a standoff. the hospital has agreed to back down. they said there is no timetable, but i have to assume a timetable is coming. >> reporter: her family will keep her on life support until she wakes up. meantime therks are preparing for what could be a long and drawn out legal battle. 234* oakland, alan wang abc7

news. a major project on the eastern span of the bay bridge was finished today over budget. the last of these saddles, the purple device that we will show you was installed on the under side of the bridge. these saddles will clamp the road deck to the bridge piers. they were supposed to do that job and 32 snapped. cal trans says the repairs cost $25 million. it is twice as much as predicted. the $318 million question tonight, who in the bay area won that mega millions jackpot. lottery investigators are doing everything they can to figure it out at this point. a ticket sold at jennie's gift in san jose and it is one of two tickets that have all six numbers worth. those two winners will split $636 million. the bay area winner has yet to come forward. lottery investigators were at jennie's gifts today searching

>> the city academy is a christian elementary school in the heart of a district with lots of drugs and mental illness. it serves the children of the tenderloin. many are from immigrant families. each kid keeps a journal. they write about their lives. >> it is hard sometimes to listen to these stories and to think this is what kids are going through. they didn't deserve it, but they are going through it. >> with the new year approaching the kids were asked to write in their journal about the challenges they faced this year. here are some excerpts. "i was in foster care and away from my mom. my dad is not in my life due to alcohol." another one, "my mom and dad were on drugs. when i was little i was homeless. i was poor." and this passage, "my father is in prison. he has now missed my fifth grade graduation, a very big part of my life. it is very hurtful." and this, "living without my dad is like living without a heart.

"sometimes i just want to die." "my mom has said she had enough of me." "it hurts and it makes me feel worthless. because of that i cut myself." others write about hope. they are also in the headlines for less flattering reasons. the bible quoting patriarch has been suspended from the show after he made inflammatory remarks about gay people in an interview with gq magazine. he says he will appear in some episodes in the up coming 50 season. it was shot before the interview was published. his future so the series is unclear. gone, but not forgotten from facebook. the social site even keeps tabs on the things you think about spueing. when you type something and then take it off, facebook keeps track of them. they say they are not saving them, but tracking trends related to self-sensorship. facebook users in the bay area still don't like it. >> that's absolutely ridiculous. >> that bothers me because if i decide not to post-it, i am not posting it for a reason. >> they are trying to figure why people are not posting.

mentioned people with respiratory issues. looking at live doppler hd we are tracking low clouds along the coast and higher clouds above. so far no rain reaching the ground. as you look toward the sierra nevada we are seeing snow showers. look how limited the system is in terms of moisture. as you look at our heavenly camera looking toward heavenly, there is no snow coming down. i wouldn't wax off your skis just yet. a couple inches expected and not much more. they are dropping to the 40s. oakland, san jose, los gatos, 50 degrees and the view from the east bay hills camera, the camera is not shaking too much, but you notice the camera was shaking earlier. temperatures in the 40s from santa rosa to thap paw and vacaville 44 and 47 in livermore. it was a cooler afternoon today and the cooling isn't done yet. look at this shot from the kgo roof camera. i am not going to do the sound of a wolf.

maybe somebody over there will. let's look at the forecast. gusty overnight. a slight chance of a spreng kill or light -- sprinkle or light shower. blustery, better air quality and milder weather as winter arrives this weekend and even beyond this weekend. here is the cold front. we have colder air behind it. it is definitely going to be windy for tomorrow especially the morning and much cooler for tomorrow afternoon. here is a computer animation and could see a few sprinkles or light shower. the wee hours of the morning you may hear a few drops in the south bay. not expecting a whole lot. what you are going to be noticing is the wind. it might keep you awake at night so keep that in mind. snow showers in the sierra nevada. wind advisory for the west slopes of the sierra. here is a look at the wind. gusts to 30 miles an hour along the coast. could see the winds continuing to ramp up. the upside of the wind coming off this direction and we will be seeing cleaner air. hang on to your steering wheel for the commute.

it will be a little on the gusty side. as we look at the wind advisory one more time it does go up at midnight tonight. it runs until 10:00 a.m. the trees and the power lines may get knocked down especially with the winds ticking up to possibly 60 miles an you are ho. upper 30s to upper 40s tomorrow morning as the wind will hold your temperatures up along with the cloud cover, and don't be surprised if you run into wet roadways around the monterey bay. it is windy and sunny and cooler. the temperatures in the midto upper 50s. a look at the accu-weather seven-day forecast. cold on friday morning. we are seeing lows in the twenties. it is going to be sunny and milder. winter starts at 9:11 this saturday morning. and the temperatures are going to start to come up above average. it is right on through early to middle part of next week which includes christmas eve, christmas day. the weather cannot be better for santa, but we need the rain here. what can i say, dan and ama? >> thank you, sandhya. in sports, do we have a piece of videotape to show you.
