tonight, an exclusive one-on-one interview with the mother of the teenager girl now on life support after being declared brain dead following surgery. >> a judge ordered a temporary restraining order from removing the girl from the device they believe is keeping the girl live. they told them to choose a neuroologyist for a second opinion. the family is hopeful she'll recover. the hospital believes that's unlikely. >> we're happy to cooperate with the judge's suggestion that an independent expert be provided

her alive. i believe she'll heal. >> this is not just your hope to keep her on life support through christmas. you want to keep her on life support as long as you can? >> yes. >> hoping she'll recover? >> yes, i believe she is. i feel like she's recuperating. >> that isn't what the doctors tell you. how hard is that to hear it? >> it hurts a lot for someone to tell you that someone you love so much. i love my daughter before i even knew her when i was pregnant with her. i love her. i will fight for my daughter till i can't fight anymore. as a mother i don't know when a mother loses her fight for her children. >> you're not ready to lose this fight? >> no. no. >> the family will be back in court monday with the name of

doctors they want to do the brain examination. the court expects to have the final report on her condition on tuesday. you can see the entire interview on the website. two incidents involving gunfire at area malls and a man is recovering after being shot outside. gunfire broke out at a mall in tracy. >> reporter: the old navy is closed tonight. it happened right here in these parks spaces. >> people's clothes next to the car. >> reporter: this is what melissa hooks saw. two men got into an argument in the parking lot near old navy. one pulled out a gun and shot

the other. is shooter drove off in a white compact vehicle. >> generally it's a safe area. i was very surprised and then there's yellow tape and place everywhere. >> reporter: he doesn't think the mall is in the best area and is even more concerned. >> if i knew it happen today i wouldn't be here now. >> reporter: the question is is there a threat to the community. >> someone brave enough to do a shooting at broad daylight at a shopping mall at the east bay where there's many shoppers is quite capable of anything. >> reporter: the lieutenant says shoppers should feel safe because there's extra uniformed officers and undercover officers patrolling the mall. in addition, he's offering safety for passengers at three locations including the bay fair station. just minutes after the shooting there was another one at the west valley mall in tracy.

a glass door was shattered but no injuries were reported. that shooter also drove off and hasn't been caught. man in a wheelchair has been killed in crash in san jose. he was hit by car at the corner of monterey road this morning. police say it was dark and the driver likely did not see him. they're not sure why he was in the middle of the road as there was no crosswalk in that area. witnesses tell abc 7 knew the victim frequently drove his motor sized wheelchair on the road. another man died today. a grocery truck driver lit thit the

target has more trouble tonight. five customers have filed class action lawsuits and some have started their own investigations into what happened. we have the very latest on this right before the holidays. >> the head of target sent out this e-mail to customers offering credit monitoring to victim. the information may already be in the hands of crooks. target customers are waiting to see if they will see bogus charges pop up. >> close my account if what you're saying is true and what i'm hearing is true. i can't afford that to happen. >> reporter: hackers got into target security system and gr grabbed information from million credit cards between black

an amazing rescue caught on camera in florida. that bright spot is a small plane trying to land after stalling one of the officers rushed over and pulled the pilot to safety as you can see here. the officers says the pilot is a hero by maneuvering his crash landing so no one on the ground was hurt. on wednesday we hear the story about the journals that students kept. a report tump etouch the heart restaurant opener. today he made it an early christmas for those kids. you have the story you'll see only on abc 7 news.

when an iowa woman was diagnosed with cancer her best friend offered to make a lifelong dream come true. doctors discovered she had brain tumors after she pass out at the gym. they wanted to start a family no matter what the future held. before treatment she froze her eggs. her best friend offered to act as a surrogate. she wanted to keep part of laura, her best friend of 24 years alive. she lot her battle after the baby shower and never got to see the baby born but despite the sadness there is hope. she was blessed with a healthy baby girl. she said it's like having a bit of his wife back and he can see her every time his daughter smiles. our give where you live campaign keeps on giving
