camera. it is also very chilly. san francisco 47 degrees. all the temperatures, though, they are going to warm up into the mid-60s later on this afternoon. a look from our east bay hills camera. our first forecast is patchy low clouds and fogs will burn off and mostly sunshine and light winds later on today and a dry and mild forecast the rest of the week. carolyn. >> thank you,ly law. developing news in the east bay where police are investigating a shooting on the freeing this morning that's injured at least two people. a red dad's lack escalade s.u.v. with four people inside was coming from an oakland club around 2:45 this morning heading westbound on 580 near mcarthur boulevard when a car came up alongside. witnesses say a car came alongside it and the passenger in the second car opened up fire, hitting the escalate

several times. another person was also taken to the hospital but the injuries are not serious. no word yet on a motive or suspects. >> in developing news this morning, a man is in critical condition in i.c.u. with a skull fracture. this morning after being attacked in petaluma. it happened just after 7:00 last night on park lane and mcgregor avenue. police say a man was crossing the street when he was almost hit by a car. he exchanged words with the man in the consider and at one point one of the people got out of the car hitting the man with a pipe-like object. the suspect then took off in the car. described as a late 80's or early 90's dark four-door sedan. >> a bedside vigil continues through a second week. it is for the 13-year-old oakland girl declared brain dead of a surgery. now her grieving mother has written a heartbreaking letter. the letter was released

yesterday. we have the latest developments >> in this picture nailah winkfield holds for 13-year-old daughter's hand as she remains on a ventilator in oakland. that's at children's hospital. she writes, "they have been pressuring me to pull the plug. i can't. i won't. i can't let them kill my baby a second time." this is the latest effort to keep pressure on children's hospital. jaw hill's uncle said community supporters brought this beener and had them sign it in the lobby. >> i want to thank everyone showing their love and support. >> friday the family got a temporary restraining order granting a temporary review of her condition. an independent review. in her letter she writes, "i never thought i would have to go to court to get a hospital to treat my child." the family will return to court monday as part of the order. while that's happening, there will be a march at children's hospital.

>> jahi's favorite color is purple, so if you come out wearing a purple shirt, doesn't matter what the shade is, but if you have a purple shirt please wear it and march with us monday morning. >> jahi was declared brain dead last week. the chief of pediatrics released a response to the letter. he writes in part, "as medical professionals, it is our responsibility to ensure that we don't create hope where there is none when one's brain ceases to function and never restarts." representatives from the children's hospital will also be in court on monday. abc7 news. >> if you would like to read the entire letter, we've post it had on our website. abc7news.com. >> developing news. a man reported missing in the east bay has been found. terrence campbell had been missing since 1:00 yesterday afternoon in walnut creek. according to authorities he was out taking a walk near a buckingham court and may have become disoriented or lost. police say campbell is visiting family and is originally from australia. again, he has been found.

>> retailers are hustling to attract lift-minute christmas shoppers. yesterday was super saturday for many of them. one of the busiest shopping days of the year. to entice more customers, many stores offered deep discounts and extended their hours. some, including macy's, k-mart and kohl's and toys-r-us are staying open around the clock through christmas eve. >> when you work two jobs, it just makes it so much more convenience. and i actually have like that one hour time to go shopping. >> sales numbers for the past few weeks have been weak. they rose 2% from november 1st through last sunday, according to shopper track. target is trying to make amends following the massive credit card breach. thieves swiped information from more than 40 million target customers who shopped at the 50 stores in the bay area and 1800 nationwide. the shopping breach was between november 27th and december 15th.

the retail giant is offering a 10% discount to shoppers this weekend and free fraud monitoring to customers who had their information exposed. jp morgan-chase is taking their own precautions following the target breach. the bank will limit the use of debit cards for at-risk customers. atm withdrawals are temporarily limited to $100 a day. purchased are limited to $300 a day. and users will not be able to withdraw cash at atms outside the u.s. police have stumbled upon a marijuana grow operation in the middle of the mission district. lisa amin gulezian has the details. >> reporter: inside each of these burlap sacks, a marijuana plant. 200 in all. they are secured as evidence of an illegal grow operation that went unnoticed for months. >> i did heard some steps, but i

had no idea who was the one. >> the owner of this auto body and painting moved into his space earlier this month. he was told there were no other tenants in the entire building. so he ignored the random noises he occasionally heard coming from up above. but there is no ignoring the fire potentially sparked by these grow lamps. firefighters quickly realized the situation as soon as they got through the front door. they entered a maze of false walls, sectioned-off rooms and rows and rows of pot plants. everything was encased in thick sheets of plastic. >> they wrapped the building with a lot of plastic to minimize the smell coming out of the building and it keeps the room warm, but there is also the potential for an accident to take place in there. >> those who live nearby are angry.

>> we live here. there are three generations of my family here, and we definitely want to keep it from this kind of people. >> the building's owner hasn't had a second floor tenant for months. investigators are sure whoever was illegally using the space wasn't living there, but simply using it to grow pot. in san francisco, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> today san francisco police will mark the seventh anniversary, the seventh anniversary of the fatal shooting of one of their own. officer brian tavero was killed in 2006 in the sunset district by an escapee from a state correctional work camp. another officer opened fire, killing ruff a short time later. they said those who want to honor him within visit the community room dedicated to him 2nd police station between 3:00 this afternoon and 10:00 tonight. as the deadline to enroll for health insurance looms, covered california, the state's health insurance exchange, will have extended hours today to help consumers enroll. tomorrow is the deadline to

it is sunny there today. high about 47 degrees. no chance at all of any snow. this information fromly law gulen, who will be along shortly with your full accuweather forecast. a tragic development from the shooting out of a suburban denver high school earlier this month. 17-year-old clair davis, the teenager shot during the rampage, died yesterday. she'd been in critical condition since the december 13th attack. 18-year-old karl pearson shot davis point-blank in the head before killing himself. >> last week a federal judge declared the nsa data collection program likely unconstitution until. a presidential advisory panel has suggested dozens of changes to nsa operations. today on "this week" michigan republican mike rogers of the house intelligence committee said the panel's suggestions are not necessarily a blow to the nsa. >> think about where we are and what the panel did, which was

dominated by law professors. they basically said the information is important, but where we keep it may be up for debate. so that's an important, i think a very important milestone for those that saw it as devastating to the nsa. i basically disagree. what they said is this information is a vital part of our counterterrorism effort. >> the advisory panel recommended requiring a court order for each nsa search of the phone records database, and keeping that database in the hands of a third party, not the government. >> tomorrow's monday night football game with mark the end of an era whether the 49ers play the atlanta falcons. it will be the red and gold's last game at candlestick park but it's not over until it's over, and as katie marzullo explains, the stadium crews are going about preparations as

really getting into the spirit of the game. you can e-mail us your photos as ureport@kgo san francisco's water bar restaurant is also paying tribute to candlestick. the restaurant along the embarcadero has created gingerbread and candy model of the stick. it's decorated with intricate details, as you see, including many gingerbread men playing football. it will be on display through the end of the the month. >> on the east coast more than 95,000 customers are without power this morning as a strong winter storm sweeps through. the winter weather is making the holiday get away just downright miserable for millions of people across a large chunk of the country. abc's alex perez has the story from chicago. >> rack after rack, the massive storm creating a nightmare during the busy holiday travel weekend. rain lead to go a dangerous glaze of ice across the central

part of the country. parents along the storm's path, crews working nonstop to de-ice planes. in bart elseville, oklahoma, look closely. the rain even freezing on this bird's feathers. the ice buildup so thick, trees snapped and crumbled under its weight. >> the trees are coming down pretty quick. >> and threatening homes. >> it crashed and hit the house. in kansas, many cars ended up upside down. some even stranded. the pickup truck slid off the highway, killing the driver. in amarillo and other parts of texas, first responders struggled just to keep up with the crashes. treacherous road conditions in vermont caused this roll over on i-89 and nice michigan, thick enough to cover this car window.

and it's not just snow and ice. overnight the storm spawning possible tornado in arkansas, causing this 18-wheeler to overturn in west memphis and destroying at least eight homes in chico and flooding entire neighborhoods. now much of the ice, snow and rain will be moving east and here in the midwest temperatures are expected to plunge tonight. alex perez, abc news, chicago. >> oh, the sight of that bird with frozen feathers, so sad. >> it really is. >> we've had chilly nights, but definite will mild, mild days. >> we certainly have. i think we are the envy of the rest of the country this week. wety a live look outside. this is a look from the mt. tam camera. it kind of says it all. we are waking up to some hazy sunshine. we have patchy fog in some areas, but we are going to look at a really mild day today and a mild week ahead for christmas. as we take a look at live doppler 7hd, not tracking any

returns right now. that's bus we just don't have any moisture in our forecast. it's all being kept well to the north of us, in fact this is what is happening. we have the ridge of high pressure that's blocking all the cooler weather to the north of us. we will see a weaker weather system coming in later on this week, but really it's not strong enough to bring us any rain whatsoever. so question are actually going to be finishing on a very dry note as compared to the rest of the country. take a look at this. snow in chicago as we were just looking at those amazing pictures. in the south we do have a threat of some thunderstorms, flash flooding and freezing rain as we make that trek up north in the atlantic northeast there. so very different from what we are experiencing here in california. mostly sunshine. a little built of cloud cover north of us. in chico, 49 degrees. freezing fog overnight. but 52 degrees in yosemite. warm, 7 to degrees in los

angeles. and here at home it's going to be really comfortable. we are going to be in the lower to mid-60s in the south bay along the peninsula. in the mid-60s, cooler on the coast. and 61 in san francisco, the north bay some of our warmest temperatures out here, 67 degrees in cloverdale, 66 in santa rosa, 65 in calistoga. under lots of sunshine there. 65 in oakland and a little bit farther inland, 63 in pittsburgh and 62 pleasanton, 62 in brentwood and 64 in livermore. our overnight lows, it's going to be chilly. we aren't going to have any cloud cover so the air is going to be rather crisp. we are seeing about upper 30s in the north by. a little warmer in san francisco at 48 degrees. lower 40s at you move down the peninsula and into the south bay. also some chilly conditions in the east bay, as well. and, of course, we have a big game tomorrow. we have a grit forecast for you. mild conditions once again. we saw some folks in those pictures bundled up in their 49ers gear. you are not really going to need

for the next few days in the bay area, sunny and breezy tomorrow. days are getting longer, as well. tuesday it looks like temperatures will be at 66 degrees around the bay inland. along the coast 62 degrees, and wednesday for christmas, 674 degrees. still mild and dry. i'll have the full accuweather seven-day forecast ahead. >> thank you, lela. turning now to space and the wardrobe malfunction that's jeopardizing the mission to make crucial repairs to the international space station. yesterday's spacewalk went well but tomorrow's has been postponed. abc's mike beechier has more from the johnson space center in houston. >> american astronauts nick and mike hop continues race through time >> american astronauts, rick and michael, zipped through time and

space, removing the day ahead of schedule the ailing cooling pump that jeopardized operations aboard the international space station. >> you can get around and they worm you up. >> when mission control asked him to extend the spacewalk, he booked. >> it's up to you guys if you really want to go out there. >> one of his problems was revealed by mission control a few hours after the walk ended. water in his space suit. >> we want to die that suit out overnight. >> they will now spend christmas eve trying to finish the work. after n.a.s.a. cancelled monday's spacewalk to investigate what caused the latest malfunction. but it is different from an emergency encountered last july by an italian spacewalker, who almost drown when a glob of water collected in his helmet. >> even before the emergency repair mission began, n.a.s.a. acknowledged it is working with aging space suits. >> the suits are 35 years old. we've reviewed the hazards every

so often. >> he's a seven time spacewalker and wore extra safety gear to prevent an occurrence of helmet flooding. china any's moon recover is on the move again after a restart friday. the rover started moving again after shutting down last weekend. the brick was supposed to last until monday but they decided to start it ahead of schedule. it will survey the surpass and substances and look for natural resources for three months. technology helped one man stop a burglary at his home while he was in china. the long aland man set up a camera so he could monitor his house while he was gone. friday night he spotted someone inside, called police, and they arrived just in time to catch a woman running out of the house. police say when she was arrested, she was carrying one of those web camps that he had installed. this morning a p. r. specialist at the center of a

digital uproar is apologizing. friday before boarding a flight to south africa, the woman sent out a tweet about aids and race. but the time she landed, the tweet had gone global and she had been fired. here's abc news reporter gina with the story. >> this morning she is without a job. fired after sparking an international controversy. her peril again the moment she tweeted this. going to africa. hope i don't get a.i.d.s.. just kidding, i'm white. aft immediate outrage, her former employer, internet giant inc issued a statement called the comment outrageous and offensive. after firing her on saturday again said it condemns the tweet but said she's an individual who we have otherwise known to be a decent person. she was oblivious to the rising black lash. without wi-fi during the twelve hour flight from cape town saturday.

the whole term her twitter account exploding. and some said they were anxiously awaiting the moment she would get online and discover the severity of the response. >> this is one of the fastest responses in crash and burns i've ever seen from a tweet. >> this photo post today twitter shortly after she did land reportedly shows her in the cape town airport on the phone wearing glasses. moments later the offending tweet was deleted and then her entire account. but no apology from the woman once responsible for the image of some of the biggest names on the internet, match.com, about.com, even the daily beast. >> a pr person has two jobs. one is certainly to present things to the public, but the other is to read the mood of the public. #* and really be sensitive to this. this was shockingly insensitive. >> her family tells abc news this is not indicative of the type of person she is. but on her now deleted account,

she described herself as a troublemaker on the side and known for my loud laugh. abc news, new york. >> helping today, the nation's oldest black hitch owned bookstore will begin their fundraising drive to help purchase the building it resides in. san francisco's marcus books was set to be evicted earlier this year but reached a settlement last month with the family that purchased the property during bankruptcy proceedings. the bookstore received a loan to help buy back the property on fillmore street, but it's still $1 million short. it's looking to use a crowd-raising approach known as fund-rise to come up with the rest. today the fundraiser and book reading gets underway at mark us books at 3:00. some bay area high school football coaches were in for quite a treat last night. former oakland raiders coach and monday night football analyst john gruden met with coaches and players at hooters restaurant in san bruno.

he awarded the teams' checks and talk about the importance of giving back to high school football. >> i was the assistant offensive line coach. what i found out real quick was i didn't get paid. then i found out we didn't have enough practice balls to practice. then i found out we didn't have any blocking slips. then i knew we didn't have a budget. that's when i found out how hard it is to be a high school football coach. so what we are here to do tonight is to thank all the coaches that are here tonight. please give them a round of applause. pattern we've been experiencing for some time now. mild days, chilly nights. lela gulen has the numbers in your accuweather forecast coming up in just a bit. >> driving along 280 can be a beautiful drive, but when cars and deer share the road, it can be dangerous, as well. now a u. c. study has proposed a solution. 22 miles of fencing that will cost millions. here's abc7 news reporter johnathan bloom. >> reporter: after fixing considers for decades, bodyshop manager, jim, can usually tell what did the damage. >> a typical accident you would have with a deer in the front-end collision. >> this is the mild end of it, but at freeway speeds, he said about nine out of ten cars that hit a deer are totaled. >> suspension damage, radiator, headlights. all of that stuff is very costly to repair. >> he would know. his shop is a stone's throw away from the hotbed of deer collisions on highway 280.

that's in san mateo county. >> not only deer, but mountain lions and other animals who happen to cut across the freeway. >> while other freeways cut through jungles of concrete, this one slices a lush green forest in half. a beautiful drive until man literally collides with nature. there's a field of science that studies that. it's called road ecology. >> understanding wildlife and how wildlife move in relation to road. >> he runs the road ecology center at u.c. davis. he spoke to us last year when they put gps collars on two dozen deer and tracked them over a period of months. now with the study complete, they have proposed a solution. an 8-foot fence on either side of the road, designed to make deer cross under the freeway instead of over it. it would cost taxpayers around $4 million. >> it would be here by the crystal springs reservoir. a lot of deer make their home over here in the woods, but find their food over here in people's backyards. >> they've got their bedroom on one side and the dining room on

about 46, 45 degrees on mt. tam. as we look toward the bay you can see how hazy it is out there. waking up to the hazy sunshine and cooler temperatures. in son hose it's currently 43 degrees. so a little nip by out there but lots of sunshine. dry across the bay area. the atlanta, no returns. no moisture in the forecast this we so desperately need. and this is why a ridge of high pressure is keeping the cool and wet weather for to the north of us. we will have a weaker system coming in later on this week, but really this ridge of high pressure keeping everything at bay, so to speak. not going to experience any of that cooler weather. in fact, we are also looking at very calm wind across the bay area. 6 miles in concord for winds and 8 miles an hour in fairfield. possibility of another spare the air day on christmas.

we will keep our minds to this. as we take a look at the rest of the country, check this out. we have lots of snow, especially in chicago, in the midwest. also along the eastern sea b some ice, freezing rain. farther to the south we have some flash flood warnings, as well. now here at home in california, we've got mostly sunshine, 52 degrees. tahoe is going to be your high for today -- excuse me, for home. 76 degrees for your high tomorrow in los angeles. our highs here at home, going to be in the upper 50s to lower 60s. some mid-60s. and 67 in cloverdale. overnight lows going to be rather chilly again because of the starry, clear skies. not going to see any cloud cover to keep in any heat. 48 degrees in san francisco will be your expected low. 41 in palo alto, 39 degrees in concord. in napa, 38 degrees. 38 degrees in cloverdale, as well. our game day forecast, well, it's going to be a special one at the stick.

the cardinal improves to 10-1. the stanford men took on michigan in brooklyn, new york. ben robinson iii finishes the alley oop. late in the game. randall gets the cardinals to within one with this basket and the foul. after the free throws, randall with the chance to tie, but the shot is no good. michigan hangs on for a 68-65 victory. stanford falls to 8-3. dallas paid a visit to the shark tank last night. san jose is going to be without their rookie phenom thomas hertyl because after knee. injury. that will be for at least a month. this guy shows off some nifty stick handling. the stars took the lead in the first. former shark ray whitney backhands it against alex stalock. the sharks trail 2-0 before coming back. joe pavelski with a nifty backhander of his own. ties the game at two. this game was settled in a shootout. captain joe thornton with the only goal. sharks win it, 3-2.
