cornell bernard is live in san francisco with the excited fans. reporter: a nail-biter, but the 49ers win it, 23-20, over green bay. a lot of pumped up fans where a giant watch party has turn interest a victory party, and niner fans say they never had a doubt the 49ers would win. that secondary cold blast is going to move in tonight. the wind chill factor in green bay, minus 14. minus-4 2, in fargo, tomorrow, that colder blast moves in for minus 11 for chicago, and only a high there, and minus-4 2 in fargo. we'll talk about our chances for rain here locally coming up in a bit. >> more now on the developing storm. forecasters say by wednesday nearly half the nation, 140 million people will shudder in temperatures of zero or lower. this is the view from behind the wheel of a snow plow in indianapolis. chicago public schools cancelled classes on monday. >> the grocery store was the place to be in michigan, where people stocked up before the worst of the cold snap hit. the national weather service is calling the arctic blast historic and dangerous. here's the story from chicago.

reporter: first, driving snow. then bitter cold. now ice. new york's kennedy airport was shut down for two hours when this delta passenger flight from toronto skidded out of control from a taxiway into the snow. 35 passengers were aboard. port authority personnel responded. no injuries were reported. on new york's staten island the ice is blamed interiors pileup that sent 11 cars sprawling. the slippery conditions are taking a toll on pedestrians and keeping emergency room doctors on their toes. >> people have been walking around on something broken or using their wrist when it was broken. >> the brutal cold will get deeper and more dangerous. >> i don't think most people fully appreciate the fact that five minutes of exposed skin at those type of temperatures can have a pretty serious impact. >> in chicago they're bracing for another eight to ten inches of snow tonight. >> if you don't have to be out, this is a good time not to be out on the streets report the
