cornell bernard is live from a park, one of the many spots painted red and gold. reporter: what a game. despite the frigid temperatures in green bay, the 49ers pulled it off. this was a watch party here in san francisco. the crowd has taken off, but earlier it was a victory party. [cheering] reporter: the crowd went wild the moment the 49ers kicked that field goal, winning the game over the packers, 23-20. the food truck park hosted this watch party. one of many gathering places across the bay area from the 49er faithful. main say they never had a doubt the team would win, and the super bowl? now on the way, according to a lot of people. >> never doubt. we're true niner fans.

it was a tough match. >> the last time i saw the niners win the super bowl i was 15 years sold so it's been 19 years since they won a super bowl. this is the year. >> i don't know if it's the year. we hope it's the year. we have our power with us right now and moving forward at a high velocity, and we are go to go. reporter: across town, fans were gathering at green's sports bar on polk street. we found a few green bay packers fans in the brown, but they quickly took off the moment the niners declared victory. the team will enough head to face the carolina panthers next weekend for a divisional playoff game. we're live in san francisco. abc7 news. go niners. funny to see everybody in their short sleeved shirts. colin rush is here with a look at how the niners got it done. >> i love wild card weekend.

they generate a lot of toughness. and clutch. >> i never had a doubt. >> no, jim harbaugh laughing. save that. >> yeah. good sound bite. >> we'll check in with you later. most 49er fans watched the big victory from the comfort of their home, though a few braved subzero conditions in green bay. one niner fan tried to thaw his beer in the parking lot. just about everyone dressed in layers. our photojournalist talked with some frigid 49er faithful outside the frozen tundra of lambeau field. >> i had no idea how cold it would be here. i left orange county, it was 75 degrees. i have no idea what negative temperatures feel like. always been a bucket spot for me, and to be here when the 49ers are playing, it's the best. playoff atmosphere, packers.

minus 16. below zero. this is the secondary blast that will move in minneapolis, minus 14, minus 19 in fargo. couple in the wind chill, minus 17 in green bay, and minus-4 1 in fargo, all of that heads towards the south and the east tomorrow. very cold conditions. what about us here on the west coast? we'll take a look at the seven-day forecast coming up. >> the frigid weather has taken its toll on much of the nation in missouri, massive pileup shut down traffic for hours. several semis had to be removed. since the storm hit last week at least 15 people have been killed on the roads or frozen to death in north dakota, the high today was 12 below zero. that's the lowest high temperature since 1937. schools are closed monday as they are in minnesota and now chicago. at jfk in new york, a plane skidded off the slippery run away this morning. the delta flight made a safe landing but while taxiing it

slid into a snow bank. no passengers were hurt. >> travelers facing long lines at san francisco international. 66 flights were cancelled today. a mob of travelers waited inside terminal three to get rebooked on united. bay area travelers are feeling the ripple effects of cancellations another united's other hubs like chicago and cleveland. >> a lot more efficiently handled. all hands on deck. everybody work together. but wasn't going that way. >> the third line we have been in. we have been here two hours, standing in line, and this is -- one person here who can help with ticketing for the rest of the week. >> that kid looked happy. there were no cancellations in oakland or san jose. developing news in oakland. after a woman's car slid into an estuary, forcing a hazmat team to join the rescue. it happened near 880 and 66th

66th avenue around 3:00 this afternoon. sergio is live with what happened. reporter: the chp tells us that the woman who was driving, somehow lost control of the vehicle, slid off the 880 as she was driving, smashed into a guardrail, and then went into the water there. witnesses tell us it was just that woman, the driver, who was inside. this is video of the suv being pulled out. you can see the air bags deployed, helping to cushion the driver inside. the california highway patrol says she did not suffer serious injuries. the witnesses say she was taken away in an ambulance. according to one woman we talked to, a good samaritan is a hero in this crash. he pulled off the freeway, jumped in the water, and used some cinder blocks on the side of the pavement to break the rear window of the suv. >> he had to go to the back seat to go out the window, which that part was under the water. the minute she got out, though, the man grabbed her and the car

>> adults can now by marijuana legally in colorado and many californians would like to see it allowed in the golden state as well. the american civil liberties union discovered? a recent poll that 65% of californians favor legalizing, regulating and taxing marijuana sales. >> 30, 40 years into the war on drugs, particularly when it comes to marijuana, that was a failed initiative. that we spent billions of dollars putting people away. >> we have enough problems with people that are drunk, driving behind the wheel. and so you're going to have the same amount of people. how are they going to regulate that? >> 27% of californians surveyed strongly oppose legalizing marijuana. >> cover california has extended the deadline for insurance payments after becoming overwhelmed by a surge of people signing up for health coverage.

in union square team up to find homes for to pets. last year more than 325 animals found new homes. this year the number was 335. the number of adoptions may have been helped by the spca streaming video of all those cute little animals. a fox trapped in a fence in los gatos is back in the wild. here's a picture of the gray fox with its head wedged in a chain link fence. wildlife officials were puzzled because foxes can scale fences. personnel cut the fox out, examined it, and then set it free on friday. the fox was let go near the same fence so it would be on familiar ground. >> i was watching the game and felt sorry for the fans, wanted to put a coat on myself.

we'll see a few more clouds drift by. tomorrow morning, frost likely, extreme north bay communities, as temperatures drop below freezing. get ready for a cooling trend, and looks like another dry week ahead. if we're able to squeeze any moisture out of the cold front, maybe extreme north bay. that's it. 20s in the north bay, 40s near the peninsula and the coast. high pressure -- sounds like a broken record but has been sitting near the coast, pushing the jet stream to the north. see how the cold front is starting to align right near the coast. high will push on towards the east. this cold front is not strong enough where we are to really make any kind of inroads in. we'll seal the clouds and cooler air mass settle over the bay area. the most energy right here is going to head to the north of us. so here's a look at the forecast model animation.

i'll take this to 6:00 tuesday. clouds with us. cooler air mass, temperatures drop off. as this front gets near it, it falls apart by tuesday night. most of the rain stays to the north in the pacific northwest. this next system will move in and could possibly wing -- wring out a drop or two, and our latest eight to ten-day outlook for january, calling for above normal temperatures and below precipitation. so we may not see much in the way of rainfall through the latter part of january. tomorrow, temperatures come down, 60s across the bay area. 55, san jose, napa, 65. 64, antioch. cooler air mass on tuesday and wednesday. the clouds thicken, only in the 50s on wednesday. maybe a drop or two overnight wednesday, thursday morning. the north bay. otherwise we'll look for more
