live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. good morning, thanks for joining us. the flu continues to claim lives in california. most recently in the bay area. >> we will show you where. a contra costa county woman is the latest victim to die from the flu. a woman in santa clara also died along with ten others in california. the deaths have happened in seven counties so far. katie marzullo has more. >> the woman was just 48 but foil say she had underlying

health issues. officials say the flu is not predictable. everyone needs to be careful and to take precauses. >> pre-existing health problems can make a person more susceptible but healthy adults can get a bad flu, too. >> 18 cases hospitalized have been from pediatric cases up to 64 years but mostly adults. >> since ok, the start of flu season in the county. officials are seeing more severe cases than last year and are being reported earlier. the best best is to get a flu shot. >> the vaccine protects you against h1h1. there is much more protection across the population. >> in 2009 flu season people had no immunity to h1n1 and there was a vaccine shot acknowledge with 600 killed in california

crosswalk of the river is cooperating. it is not believed that alcohol or drews were a factor. this is the 6th pedestrian to die in the city in the last three weeks. we have a happen to show you all locations of the fatal accident. san francisco mayor lee says he plans to focus on pedestrian safety this year and expects to make an announcement on the issue in the next couple of weeks. the navy is confirming that at least one crew member has died after a helicopter crash off the coast of virginia. the clear want down this morning at 18 miles from norfolk with five crew on board. four were rescued but one died. another crewman is missing and the crew was flying a model used for mine sweeping and related training missions. >> military officials are quick to clarify the crash was not connected to the crash of another chopper yesterday. an air force helicopter went down near norfolk, england, and

cruise are trying to retrieve the body of four american crewmen killed in the crash. the helicopter slammed into the coast during a low altitude training mission. >> google puts mysterious barge in the bay and now it has a ferry. it is a venture that that we have confirmed this morning. what is this all about? >> wells they want to get their workers to work. they will try the water. the port of san francisco tells me they were excited to get the call from google and they hoping more companies will try this out. here is the ferry. we got video of it this morning holding 149 people. this last at 8:40 and want close to being full. we probably saw 20 or 30 taking advantage. two will leave the ferry building each morning taking you to redwood city and you will be bused to the google campus in response to the negative reaction some have had to the chatter buses google used to get

employees from the city to silicon valley. protesters have been upset that the buses used muni bus stops and google and other companies have agreed to pay the city a fee to use those bus stops but google is turning to another alternative taking the water rather than the highways. >> they presented a plan, they are well funded company with a great boat that was certified by the coast guard and they wanted to do a 30 day trial that started on monday and so far we have each, you know, a fair amount of employees boarding the develops in the morning and two sailing in the morning and in the afternoon they drop off the passengers. we will see what happens. >> when you take a ferry to work you rely how fun and relax it can be so i expect the numbers to go up. >> here is a statement from google and i quote, "we don't want to cause any inconvenience to san francisco residents and are trying alternative ways to get employees to work and will

a bell-running ceremony in tucson to remember the victims of a deadly mass shooting three years ago today. former arizona congresswoman gabrielle giffords reveals in the "new york times" she is regaining the use of her right arm through hours of rehabilitation. she and 12 others were injured and six were killed when a gunman opened fire at an event in tucson. on the face book page she said she will sky dive to mark a milestone in the recovery. >> the obama administration is on the receive end of a scathing critique over the war in afghanistan directly from former defense secretary robert gates.

are mostly cloudy today with rain evaporating and the system tomorrow promises more in the way of wet weather moving through mendocino county and you can see tomorrow morning, not much going on, in fact, we will see a little bit of light rain clearing by thursday and into saturday our next system, it comes right down to santa rosa and it falls apart as it heads through the morning and into the afternoon hours. less than .1" of rain is possible. in between, friday is a little bit warmer and mid-60's and sunday, monday, and tuesday, conservative with the low-to-mid 60's and as we get closer the temperatures could get warmer. it is a necessary day and don't need the umbrella for anything but, maybe, tomorrow morning, but that is pushing it and a stretch. >> abc7 news begins with breaking news. a large power outage in marin county with two out averages affecting roughly 24,000 customers in mill valley, corte
