strain of the flu is spreading tonight throughout the bay area. seven deaths so far, and local hospitals are taking this very seriously. one has even set up a tent in the parking lot to handle the over flow of patients. good evening. i'm carolyn johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. abc7 news anchor ama dates is live at the regional medical center where doctors and nurses are preparing for a rub of sick patients. ama? >> dan, carolyn, this is not the first time the regional medical center has separated their suspected it flu patients, but it is the first time they set up a tent in the parking lo. there is so much construction that they had no where else to put the patients coming in with flu-like symptoms. >> it hurt my ear. >> you hurt your ear? >> like this. it hurts a lot.

>> 6-year-old brandon spent his evening in this flu tent at regional medical center in san jose. his parents decided to bring him to the hospital because he also has a fever. >> the doctor sent me to this room here because i don't know the other kids are going into that room. >> elaine is the emergency department's medical director. the tent was set up this morning so doctors can efficiently treat patients who might have the flu. >> we have noticed a significant increase in the flu-like illness patients walking into the office. >> separating helps contain the spread of the illness. >> we are taking patients who should hopefully dis-- discharged and not critically ill and patients we can treat safely and quickly and get them back home and away from public where they are not sharing the germs with everybody. >> tonight more deaths across the bay area are blamed on the flu. in sonoma county one person has died and two in marin

required to as part of a government conspiracy. she was found after an amber alert was issued. it happened again at a major biotech company on the peninsula. fires. abc7 news reporter john alston is live. a similar fire there just months ago. >> in may. the fire trucks pulled out of here at 10:00, nearly seven hours after this happened. one worker suffloked critical burns to the -- suffered critical burns to the face and another had minor hand burns. this is not the first time the fire crews had to race. it was quickly a full blown hazmat occurrence. it was strong enough to blowout the window of a third floor lab. that was followed by a fire which set off the sprinkler system. a deputy fire chief says they were working with ether and other chemical. >> both received burns from

the fire and explosion. one was critically burned. they were taken to a burn center and the other was -- had minor burns. >> somebody pulled the fire alarm and the building was evacuated. a spokesperson refused to answer any questions. instead releasing a written statement which says we are working with the south san francisco fire department to address the situation with the safety of our employees being our first priority. but this is not the first injury. just last may an employee was hurt during a similar flash fire. cal-osha and the san mateo county district other district attorney's office is investigating the latest accident. >> we trust osha and the d.a. can complete their investigation and come up with recommendations for the company. >> they are trying to figure out what sparked the explosion. it is expected the lab and

portions of the floor will remain closed tomorrow. live in south san francisco, john alston, abc news. there is a legal claim against the city of san francisco. she died on july 6th after she was hit by two san francisco fire department trucks at the scene of the plane crash. the girl's parents claim the firefighters knowingly put the girl in harm's way after the crash. they say she was killed as a result of gross negligence. if the city rejects the claim the family can file a lawsuit. police are searching for a missing 28-year-old yahoo! programmer. friends say oakland resident luke ardwini has not been heard from since new year's eve. his friends think he celebrated the new year in san francisco. he is about 5 feet 10 and weighs about 150 to upwards of 1 70 and has a number of tattoo. he is originally from new york and may have returned to the

area. a bicyclist was sent to the hospital after police say she crashed into a tow truck. it happened in san francisco south of market neighborhood just before 7:00. the 40-year-old was riding the wrong way down a new bike lane and was not wearing a helmet when she slammed into a tow truck. she was taken to the hospital with a possible broken bone. police say the tow truck driver is cooperating and the cyclist may be cited for riding on the wrong side of the road. the 13-year-old girl declared brain dead has now breathing and feeding tubes her family wanted. the family's lawyer says jahi mcmath is doing better now that she is at a new facility. doctors inserted the gastric and tracheotomy tubes at the undisclosed facility where she was taken by ambulance on sunday. in a text, attorney christopher dolan told us that doctors are optimistic her condition has stabilized and that her health is improving from when she was taken from children's hospital.

in hercules, alan wang, abc news. the governor has big plans to eliminate the state's debt. it is out lieged in his budget proposal he will reveal tomorrow. he wants to pay down the long-term debt by $11 billion next year. that's according to "the sacramento bee" who had a copy of the budget. the governor wants to eliminate the debt by 2018. he is proposing $45 billion for schools which is an increase of $4 billion. they rely on capital gains tax and the voter approved tax increase. >> de de depending on what happens this weekend there is a chance one more game could be played at candlestick park. a lot of fans have started to buy up the seats, literally. seats are being sold because the said yum will be torn down after the season. since they went on sale last month, 3,000 pairs have been purchased. they are not cheap. last month a pair cost about $650. meaning nearly $2 million has been raised so far. the money goes to san francisco's rec and parks

54 san jose and 52 in half moon bay. watching lake tahoe camera, all right there is no snow right now. we didn't expect it, but there are a couple of opportunities and a chance of snow showers tomorrow. really light up there. there is a better opportunity foreseeing several inches of snow. petaluma mid40s and the view from the emeryville camera is good and looking toward the bay bridge. patchy fog and drizzle in the morning and a lot of cloud cover. we are looking at a chance of rain and very light and now only in the north bay on saturday and it is going to be warmer next week. we could be talking about records here. this cold front will possibly bring you a little drizzle. it is a weak system that passes through. saturday's storm 1* hardly going to bring us much in terms of rainfall. here is a look at the computer animation. this is the latest, the cold front to the north. it falls apart and we get a

few spotty areas of damp roadways and that's it. lots of sunshine and the temperatures will respond. it will come up a few degrees. then saturday this system here , now the latest computer models are really keeping it mainly for the north bay. that's going to be our best chance of seeing any rain. it is going to be light. if we see anything it will be a few hundredths to .15 of an inch of rain. watch out for slow going traffic. temperatures upper 30s to the upper 40s. you will need to bundle up in the morning. plenty of sun and temperatures upper 50s to low 60s. a look at the accu-weather seven-day forecast featuring milder weather for friday and only to see the chance of rain on saturday. we will take anything right now we are so desperate. by tuesday and wednesday, 70s around the bay, and we may be talking about record high temperatures. in the meantime, take what we can get. >> let's talk warriors now.
