traveling along highway toward 17 and we have a possible big rig that is stuck. that could hamper the commute. details ahead. we have breaking news from the south bay, firefighters responding right new to a warehouse fire in san jose. matt keller is on the scene with details. matt? yes, this is the biggest fire i've seen in person that is not a wildfire. the warehouse is burning right now on 28 near julian street in san jose. this is probably two miles away from another second alarm fire burning if downtown san jose and you can see how huge the flames are. we are toll it is 80,000 square footwear house that is fully involved with the flames shooting hundreds of feet in the air. the smoke is billowing into the sky. black, black smoke. firefighters not going in.

this is defensive attack. they will stay outside of the fire. they will try to put water on it. we heard explosions. we heard people close to the situation saying there are things that can explode. they are very concerned about that. they have evacuated people from the buildings in the surrounding area. the flames are huge. the last time i heard it was three-alarm fire but i would not be surprised if this respond increases. many firefighters at the other fire on 17th in downtown san jose are being pulled but they don't want to bring too many because there was an intense firefight all morning and this is another intense firefight in san jose. we will continue to collect information. we did hear it possibly spread to a business and firefighters are concerned about the flames spreading and moving people out. we can hear people on the loudspeakers to get people cleared from the area.

this is close to 101, right, a very busy area. how will that affect the traffic and folks getting to work? >> some people were going down julian driving through but on the other side of julian they blocked it off. san jose high school is down this. it is a busy area. you are right. we have so many fire trucks headed to the scene. they want to allow the trucks to get here and keep the cars out. if you are supposed to head to the area stay away for several hours if you can. there are many people here fighting the fire. >> matt, we see this from oblique angle, we do not see much water on the fire?

let me back away so you can see the flames. it appears some water is being put on but it just looks. it doesn't look any better. i heard they were looking for aerial support and i don't know if that means they are putting up ladders but they are concerned i a spout -- explosives. it is intense and dangerous. we are getting word working this story from this end and they spoke to a man would thinks it could be his business. you mentioned explosives. do we know why this could be suppositives? what type of a warehouse is this? >> we are trying to work on the type of warehouse. it is set back deeply in there. i asked a firefighter, are we safe here and they said yes, but

>> a huge poultry processing plant is shut down after a dirty discovery. amy hollyfield is outside a foster farms office in pleasanton with the details. >> there are concerns of job security with foster farms and some jobs in the bay area. this is the office for the design team. now they are facing a plant shut down. the usda shut down the livingston plant because of a cockroach infestation. this is one of the plants that was linked to salmonella outbreak in march which sickened hundreds. foster farms says no product was affected by the cockroach problem and physical inspectors fund the bugs four times over the past five months.

consumers are concerned. >> people will lose their jobs because they will lose production. >> with infection and infestation, why bother? a statement from the company and i quote, "food safety is our highest priority," the company took action immediately learning of any concern. this is an isolated incident with no other plants affected. they have treated, they say, in livingston and looks forward to re-opening when it passes inspection. now we will turn things over to mike. we have the buyers complaints right now. >> the winds blowing out to the north and headed to milpitas and fremont so if you smell smoke that is why. the winds will turn the other way and blow back to the source

fire and it sounds like surface streets are closed and it is east of 28 blocked off and 33 south to santa clara street west to 24th street north to julian. so, i have a clearer picture of that if a little bit but it is capture the attention of commuters on freeway. we have moist roads and possible drizzle falling on eastbound 380 and a solo vehicle spinout on the off-ramp not causing any blockage on the main line. a large warehouse fire in san jose with a picture from the seen, with matt on the scene. what is going on? you can still see the flames and the smock spewing into the air and matt keller is there with an update ahead.

bay area, this is abc7 news. we take you back to breaking news story in san jose. a three-alarm warehouse fire, a massive warehouse, 80,000 square feet and now sure what is burning but flames and smoke into the air happening at east julian and 28th street. that is where the firefighting is. it is only a blog away from 101. we are monitoring reports that there is traffic slow downs on 101 in the area. our reporter continues to be at the scene with the details. also happening today, governor brown will formally announce details of the 2014 budget. the announcement is taking place a day earlier than expected. katie marzullo joins us with the reason why the governor has moved up the news conference. katie? >> because a budget was leaked to the media and he is

presenting the budget at 9:00 a.m. in sacramento and then in san diego and los angeles. governor brown is proposing more than $154 billion in responding an increase of 5 percent. on the revenue side he projected $4 billion windfall from capital gains. >> highlights include 10 percent of the total budget goes to paying down debt to the tune of $11 billion. $6 billion pays back schools that hat the aid cut. k-12 education gets $45 billion. $1 billion is slated for the college system and the governor wants $1.6 billion into a rainy day fund. the legislative analyst forecasts $3 billion surplus by end of the fiscal year and governor brown warping law -- warning lawmakers to show

restraint. it 6:15. we want to look at traffic with the warehouse fire in san jose. matt has reported it is a tile warehouse. >> this is affecting traffic. we have street closings but we have slow downs on 101 down to it will miles per hour approaching julian street. it is shut down between 27 and 28 so if you need to get off the freeway you cannot go west. you can go east but if you are traveling in the area use santa clara exit instead. it is causing specific tea party slowing passing by the scene of the ire. we can see from 280 if san jose the plume of smoke in the air and we have visibility from 280 not causing delays on 280 with more details ahead. we will see how the weather could affect the fire. >> watch out for smoke with

country conditions at san jose international airport with winds from the south and north at five miles per hour. it will hold across the bay water. we have drizzle around san rafael at 580 and the bayview district and bay shore and to oakland as much as we are seeing on live doppler 7 hd with patchy drizzle possible in the commute. if you are coming into san francisco we will have upper 40's upper market. if the destination is ferry building, 52 degrees. 46 in pleasanton but walnut creek is 52. petaluma is at 45. you can see how low the clouds are at emeryville but not a strong front. it will be gone by the afternoon with clouds and warmer and next chance of rain is saturday and record highs are lurking next

week. the cold front came closer but lost the moisture and everything you see behind it the post frontal moisture will stay to the north. we will hang our head on the next system for rain but it is not look impressive. you can see the spotty drizzle through the morning commute and by 10:00 it is over transitioning at noon to increasing sunshine and dry air for afternoon so it will be warmer. to saturday lake and mendocino counties will see light rain and the rest of us are cooler. on sunday, low-to-mid 60's and mid-60's to 70 degrees next week. the records will happen, and, possibly, poor air quality. back to leyla gulen for an update. >> get your skis out. time for the lake tahoe report a base of 18 to 20" and alpine meadows is 18".

abc7 news begins with breaking news. the breaking news is from san jose. a major warehouse fire is burning, a huge warehouse. matt keller is at the scene. matt? 80,000 square feet is what i am told, the size of the

warehouse, the vintage roof and tile specializing in rare and discontinueed we tiles. there is a lot of fuel in the building. we have her several explosions over the past 20 or 30 minutes. they are concerned about what is inside. they are staying identified. if i could have my photographer take a look at the ladders set up an the warehouse, i can see two in my viewpoint right now where i am standing and there is another one closer to the fire that is also spraying water from above on to the flames, huge billowing smoke coming out from the building. earlier we saw flames and now we see a lot of black smoke. that could be a sign the fire is closer to being out. it could be a long time because of the size of the fire and the

fuel burning inside. a lot of the roads are blocked off. fire crews are from all over the city. they are called in here. it was a third alarm fire before 6:00 this morning, while fighting another fire two miles derby and a lot of wirery firefighters so they are calling firefighters from every section of the city coming here self miles to help out and put water here and try to get the fire out. i want my photographer to show people where we are with 101. you can see this is julian. the 101 exit is 20' away. julian is blocked off at 28th street. the cars are deferred and detoured. if you are coming this direction, there will be a lost fire trucks in the area with police cars in the area and they will guide you around this fire.

>> great question. live doppler 7 hd shows the winds blowing out to the north at milpitas and fremont and possibly crossing the dumbarton bridge you could smell some of that smoke. as you get above a thousand feed the winds will reverse direction and blow to the southeast so if the smoke gets that high you could have a row -- reversal. our other concern is wet weather, there is a hint of drizzle and i can see the embarcadero lens on the roof it is very wet. we are going to have slick streets. the thickest drizzle is falling right now around hayward and half moon bay. i can feel it in the air in downtown san francisco. as far as our forecast, the best

chance dug the morning commute for the drizzle and fog with mild temperatures in the mid-40's to low 40's. we have clouds opening by noon and mid-to-upper 50's and partly cloudy this afternoon. slightly warmer. mid-50 to slow 60's and as we round out the 12 hours it will be cooler tenth because of the lack of cloud cover. you may need a heavier coat mid-40's to 50 degrees. >> tracking accidents and tracking the slow downs because of the fire. as we take you over to 101 the scene of julian treat, you don't want to get off the freeway because you cannot go in the westbound direction. it is shut down between 28 and 27, you can go east but you are going to be stuck in the heavy traffic along 101. try to avoid the area. an alternate is to use santa clara avenue but ten miles per hour is the top speed. we have backup and to travel

from 85 up to, say, the san jose we airport only takes 15 minutes and it will take you now, 30 minutes because of the slow down. plan ahead. don't be late for work. in danville, southbound, along 680, we have a car that lost a tire and it is on the shoulder and not causing delays. a clear drive moving up to the 24 interchange. another fire broke out in san jose, cell phone video shows a blaze moments after it started on south 17th at east san antonio. firefighters credit the smoke detectors with waking up the couple. they get out. crews will remain on the scene. they want to make sure the fire does not flare-up. investigators are looking for the cause of a fire built in 1907. >> flu cases and degrees from the flu are rising.

a hospital has set up a special area for flu patients. a tent is outside the emergency room at regional medical center of san jose to treat new flu patients. the idea is to keep it from spreading to the hospital. patients will go home after being treated in the tent expecting to keep it up for two weeks. the first ever reported death from bird flu in north america, a canadian died in alberta after traveling home from beijing infected with the virus. the virus wearily passes person-to-person but when it does, 60 percent of people infected will die. protests plan to cigarette the new chairman of the federal communications commission when he visited the bay area. tom wheeler grabbed headlines when he supported allowing airline passengers to use cell phones in flight. groups like the california brain tumor association and stop smart meters believe he is unfit to head the fcc saying he has a

abc7 news begins with breaking news. the breaking news is in the south bay. back to matt keller. matt, you got confirmation on the address of the warehouse fire? >> yes, at 1325 julian. the wish house -- the warehouse is splitted into two sections. the last half hour or 45 minutes we have seen flames and the water being put on it and flames are going down but now you can see the flames are really raging

at the warehouse. i was told there is a roof and tiling company in there and i looked online to see what other companies here, which includes a food company which has this listed as an address. there an opening here with a firewall separating the two warehouses. now we are seeing smoke coming through the warehouse and a few flames. the biggest flames are on the warehouse to the west of us from julian. you can see there are ladders putting water on the defensive fight. no one is going inside the warehouse. they are staying far away from the warehouse. they have heard explosions. here is the troubling thing: they don't know where they are coming from or what is inside the building causing the explosions. obviously that is great concern for firefighter safety.

that is why they are so far away from the fire. you can feel the heat and see the smoke going into the sky. julian is blocked off at 28th street off of 101 and the exit and the entrance, if you are coming in the air you will find detours as you try to get to work or school in the morning here but, again, the fire continues to rage on and it is three-alarm fire that could be called as a 4th alarm to get more water. we will monitor it. back to the studio. >> can you talk about the roof and what could have collapsed and whether they are confident no one was in the warehouse when it break out? >> as confident as they can. i cannot see the actual roof but i am assuming it is...gone. that is why no firefighters went inside or tried to get on the roof. that is why they are doing a
