reporter: the fire officials really want to catch this brazen arsonist. they're offering a thousand reward for his capture. we're heave here on st. john's street where this home was set on fire this morning. other fires have happened in the same six-block area of downtown. new surveillance video has surfaced. >> at this time we can confirm that agent of these fires have been intentionally set. >> firefighters make an urgent plea to help catch a serial arson mist who may look like the man in this sketch. >> my team, the men and women of the san jose fire department arson unit will work until this threat is terminated. >> this surveillance video is from across the street which shows a man walking by four times shortly before the fire started. >> to come by four times, is kind of suspicious.

and specially in a gap of -- first time is a little after 3:00. >> the last time the man is seen on cam race 4:00 a.m. firefighters can be seen arriving to fight the fire minutes later. >> i fear that one of these fires could prove fatal. >> this house fire set an thursday left two residents homeless on san antonio street. so did five other smaller house fires. a portable unit at this baptist church also on san antonio was torched on wednesday. but the cause of the massive warehouse fire on thursday has not been determined. many neighbors are on alert. >> my plan is, if i hear anymore sirens like this morning, i'm going to jump on my bicycle and start looking for anybody out in the street. >> for now the suspect is described as a thin white or hispanic man with dark hair, 20240 years old, 6'0", weighing 160 to 1 0-pounds, wearing baggy clothes. firefighters say he may not be acting alone.

investigators in palo alto have to wait until tomorrow to look into a fatal house fire where two people were found dead. the house is instable and has to be aired out before crews can enter. it was 7:15 when firefighters arrived to find half the home fully involved. the two victims have not been fired. fire officials say they believe the blaze started in the kitchen. an autopsy will be performed monday on a man who was killed in a house fire in walnut creek last night. the sheriff's department says the man died inside a fully engulfed home just after 9:30. heavy flames likely trapped the man inside the burning home. he was found on the second floor, and they do believe that where the fire started. tonight, san jose police are investigating the city's second homicide of 2014, man who appears to have been stabbed to

death was found on glen will low way this morning. his name has not been released pending notification of family. no word on suspects or a motive. in san jose a man was struck and killed bay hit-and-run driveway on northbound 101 near the onramp to 680. chp officers found the body on the left line of the onramp. a driver hit the pedestrian and took off. the victim was then hit by another car whose driver alerted authorities. no suspect or vehicle description of the hit and run driver has been released. >> the san mateo county sheriff's office is asking for your help tonight to find a black bank robber issue pa 6 has, skinny, wearing a zebra trimmed beanie, dark glasses and a shiny suit. authorities say the man walked into a chase bank yesterday afternoon with a gun in his

hand, demand money and left. the bay area experienced just a touch of rain today. from oakland into san francisco, just past the toll plaza on the approach to the bay bridge. there were only a few struggles. most drivers didn't even bother withwindshield wipers inch san francisco, in chinatown, it drizzled fluff for people to break out the umbrellas. the weather is perfect for skiers. the entire season the snowfall has been poor across the sierra, forcing all resorts to resort to snowmaking machines. so, will we get another splash of rain in the days to come? meteorologist leigh glaser has a first look at the forecast. >> you know, just expected south lake tahoe reporting rain right now at 39 degrees. so they'll continue to make the snow. let's look at live doppler 7hd.

nice to see that moisture. it's been a while since we have seen anything, this didn't amount to much. most locations, just trace amounts, and left quickly, already down towards san jose. probably seeing some heavy mist and accomplices some spots. the droplets are so light the live doppler 7hd cannot pick them up. south lake tau hoaxer high -- tahoe, higher el racings snow, lower elevations, right -- light rain. we'm look at the forecast coming up. calfire is sending more firefighters to southern california tonight where strong winds and low humidity are expected to prompt a red-flag warning. the southland is tinder dry. new research out of uc davis found that exposure to wildfire smoke could harm you. it could make your immune system more vulnerable to disease.

new details about at the central valley foster farms plan shut down by the government because of a live cockroach infestation. the plant resumed production after usda inspectors determined the company took care of the problem. they found five live cockroaches over the course of several months. foster farms says the envision face was, quote, an isolated incident. at 6:00, fremont police say they're making progress on ending side shows. officers have been looking for the illegal street races. the department is getting help from neighboring cities and the county to increase patrols, particularly on friday and saturday nights.
