screaming fans greeted a triumphant team in santa clara. after the victory against the panthers the 49ers are oner to e step closer to the super bowl. good evening and thank you for i'm ama dates the win sets up a conference showdown in seattle in one week. our coverage begins with abc7 news reporter lilian kim who is live at 49ers headquarterses in santa clara where the teams just returned. hi, lilian. >> hi, ama. dozens of fans gave the 49ers a warm welcome home. and tonight they got a special treat from the head coach himself. >> shortly after the 49ers arrived at team headquarters in santa clara jim harbaugh

in charlotte, larry beil, abc7 sports. >> we will have complete highlights of the big win in sports. there is controversy for tickets to sunday's game. according to the seahawks website they will go on sale to those in washington, oregon, idaho, montana, hawaii and two canadian provinces and not california. fans who live outside the designated area will have to purchase through secondary areas and the broncos are doing the same. tickets are only available in the rocky mountain area. now to developing news out of san jose where the search for a serial arsonist. most of the -- most -- sergio joins us with the latest. sergio? >> ama, tonight police and arson investigators are on the lookout and they want residents to be keeping an eye out for anyone who is

suspicious in their neighborhood. investigators know the suspects are working in the early morning hours setting these fires. this morning three fires were started all before sunrise. this was the first of three fires started in this morning's arson spree. a neighbor who put it out before it spread tells us he used a nearby water use to douse the flames. this portable building behind st. john the baptist church was ablaze. it was the second time it was set. a small fire was put out at this mobile home park. the suspected it fire starter has residents on edge. >> it is unnerving for everyone. >> people should not be living there. >> residents picked up fliers at fire station 8 and passed them out. he brought his children to the . >> we have a lot more eyes

that are watching the streets and looking around and making sure everybody is safe. >> included is a sketch of the suspect. it was put together using images of the surveillance camera. this is video taken yesterday of a man walking back and forth four different times. minutes later this house just across the street was burning. the elderly couple inside got out okay, but there is serious damage to their home. police and fire crews are urging residents to be on the lookout. >> you >> you see somebody that shouldn't be there and going into people's driveways and knowing they shouldn't be there. it is something you should report. >> a $10,000 reward is being offered to help catch the arsonist. >> stay with abc7 news are to the latest on the serial arsonist. we will have more beginning at 4:30. >> a church pastor is under arrest. mark lewis is accused of firebombing a home where six

people were sleeping. police say the homeowner had a restraining order against lewis who is a suspect in four cases of harassment and vandalism. richard wright, anthony nubolt and broyles was arrested for arson. the three were living at the baptist church where he was pastor. >> now to the fire that killed two people. federal officials were investigating a garage where several plastic jugs were found filled with chemicals. investigators will release more information tomorrow. in walnut creek, firefighters took 30 minutes to knockdown flames that ripped through three adjoining carports in the rossmore retirement community. it started in one of the carports and no one was hurt. a san francisco police sergeant claims she fired in self-defense after another driver punched her following a traffic accident. the shooting took place at a chevron shore boulevard 1k3 gerald avenue.

an of a duty firefighter witnessed the fender bender on 280. the firefighter followed the two cars to the gas station. he says the other driver punched the sergeant of about she shot him. the other driver is expected to be okay. an 82-year-old man suffered injuries after being hit by a car in millbrae. it happened at el camino real after 5:30. the san ma mateo county sheriff says the man the crosswalk when the drive hit him. she was not cited or arrested. it is time to check on our weather. let's get to leigh glaser. >> live doppler 7hd right now is very quiet. we are seeing a few high clouds up near eureka. we might see a little bit of light fog develop near the seashore. we are getting to an offshore wind come pone inept and that will mean a dryer -- component and that will mean dryer air. napa, high today 64 and it was

i'm ama dates. we have breaking news and firefighters have just contained a house fire in orinda. the fire broke out on bobolink road after 10:00. nobody was hurt. crews plan to remain on scene overnight to make sure that hotspots don't reignite. volunteers passed out fliers hoping to catch a seriel arsonists. three more suspicious fires started today. the federal investigators spent the day searching a burned out home in palo alto for clues after a fire killed two people. several jugs filled with some sort of liquid were discovered in the garage. and in san francisco an off duty police sergeant says she shot a man in self-defense after he punched her. it happened at a chevron station at bay shore boulevard. the sergeant and the man pulled into the gas station after getting into a minor traffic accident. the man is expected to

recover. a texas safari club auctioned off a chance to kill anen -- an endangered animal. there are only about four to 5,000 of the animals left in the wild. >> why do this senseless killing? it doesn't make sense. is it for their ego? another trophy on the wall. >> the club says it is killing the rhino to save the species. it released a statement saying selective hunting helps populations grow. all of the money from the auction will go toward rhino conservation. turning now to the big winner at the box office. >> been around the world twice. talked to everyone once. >> there ain't nothing i can't do.
