and live look outside. that's your drive through walnut creek. loading up but right now six minutes. >> developing news firefighters have contained a brush fire burning near the san mateo county coast. the fire broke out along highway 84 about three miles from san gregorio. crews got it under control about 1:00 this morning. four acres burned. the fire broke out around 9:00 burning eucalyptus trees. ten homes were evacuated but later allowed back in. develops news in the south bay. people living in down san jose breathing easier as police arrest a suspected arsonist believed to have started more than a dozen fires in just week. katie marzullo is live in the south bay with the latest. >> reporter: the san jose police department covert response up nipt made the arrest just after 8:00 last night. they have not retlaesd identity of this person but they will release more information at

10:00 this morning. this house on east john's street this burned out house is believed to be the work of the serial arsonist. this home was destroyed on saturday. one of 13 fires that's been set in just one week starting last wednesday. one of the other high-profile victims was a church on sunday a classroom behind a church on sunday was lit on fire. investigators believe surveillance video shows tar sonnist pacing in front of one of their targets and able to couple with a sketch of the person they believe is responsible. they handed that out the 3,000 neighbors. we don't know if either sketch orb video helped lead to the arrest but we do know people in the targeted area have been worried sick over this. i was talking to them just earlier this week. volunteers came forward and were keeping watch overnight. neighbors under the instruction of the fire department have been leaving their porch lights on. one man add ad surveillance camera. news of this arrest will be very

around 11:40 last night. tuesday night a 4.4 quake rattled the los angeles area. in fact there's been a quake in southern california every day for the past ten days. the flu has now killed three more people here in the bay area. the total number of cases in the bay area in santa cruz is now 21. that's death from the flu. napa county confirmed its first flu death a second was reported in contra costa a third in sonoma county. h1n1 appears to be the dominant flu strain and the best way from text yourself is by getting a flu shot and washing your hands often. the centers for disease control and prevention has information on where you can get a flu shot. we posted a link on our website. it's 6:05. a man shot by an off duty san francisco police officer is due to be arraigned today on felony assault charges. it happened sunday morning at a chevron station at bayshore boulevard and gerald avenue. a police sergeant says the off

duty female officer fired in self-defense when the man punched her in the face after a fender bender on 280. an off duty firefighter who saw what happened followed the cars to the gas station. he says the other driver punched the sergeant before she shot him. from mendocino county a small town faces a major water emergency. willits the down to 100 day supply of water. normally the dirt you see here would be under 40 feet of water. as a result the town is rationing water. residents can only use 150 gallons per home per day at the most. happening now university of california president janet napolitano is joining more than 100 other university presidents at a white house summit on expanding college opportunities. that sum met was scheduled to get under way at 6:00 a.m. our time. today's sum estimate return to the white house for napolitano who served as secretary of homeland security.

marisa mayer has cut ties with her top lieutenant after 15 months on the job. yahoo! announced late last night the chief operating officer is leaving the internet company. mayer brought him in in 2012 and signed him to an $58 million deal. yahoo! isn't saying yet why mayer is cutting him loose but the former coo was responsible for luring more advertisers to yahoo! and tech experts say mayer was probably not happy with his performance. happening today the southern california woman believed to be the first person in the nation to be ticketed for wearing google glass while behind the court. we told you about her traffic ticket. a highway patrol officer pulled her over for speeding and he noticed the google glass device and added a citation. she pleaded not guilty and today's court hearing could shape future laws on wearable

6:23. we're taking you back live to southern california where there's a red flag fire warning in effect. this is near the angeles national forest. this fire broke out just a short time ago and it is exploding in size. so, again l.a. county fire tells us that the red flag fire warning is in effect until tonight, the forecast we're seeing here winds are calm but they look like they are fairly gusty there. of course they are mobilizing their forces in place to try to fight this thing and we'll bring more information on it as soon as it becomes available. right now we'll check in with southern california boy, josh elliott for what's coming up on "good morning america." >> great as always to join you.

national forest near glendora and hot dry conditions conspiring to bring you this, fire that broke out overnight in the angeles national forest. no word on acreage involved but burning away from homes in an area about 25 miles northeast of downtown l.a. you can see fire going in a couple of places there where the blaze is going away from the main fire. so the los angeles county fire department has put seven engine there's and three helicopters to battle the blaze right now in the dark and, of course, when the light comes up or the sun comes up at the will deploy more forces there because that's when the fire could pick up more. at 6:00 let's get a check on our weather forecast locally. we have our own fire dangers here. mike? >> good morning, everybody from the roof of the abc 7 broadcast center we'll use live doppler 7 to show you the bridges are still up especially in oakland hills. got up to 40 miles per hour.

cigarette. the victim had been working on a car earlier and had spilled gas on himself. the spark from the cigarette lighter connected with the gasoline vapors on his clothing and start ad fire. his arms and chest were burned and he was airlifted to the hospital but police tell us this morning his injuries are not life threatening. so looks like he'll be okay. reporting live in concord, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you very much. develops new overnight in san mateo county firefighters got the upper hand on a brush fire and contained it early this morning. the fire broke out shortly before 9:00 last night in a rural part of the county near san gregorio near highway 84. cal fire said it quickly spread to eucalyptus trees and raced up a mountain side threatening homes on the other side of the ridge. ten homes were evacuated. the wind was very low and the flames did not pick up. firefighters had the four acre blaze contained around 1:00 this

morning. no structures burned. new this morning oakland police are investigating a fatal shooting. officers found the man in the street. he had been shot near 14th avenue and east 21st street. the victim had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. so far police have not released any information about a suspect. in san francisco, three people are recovering from gunshot wounds after a shooting near the corner of fillmore and mcallister street around 7:00 last night. all the victims are expected to survive. no word on any motive or any arrests. happening today a severe water shortage is forthing marin county to start tapping one of its stand by revoyeurs. today the marin municipal water district will begin pumping water out of phoenix lake one much its two reserve reservoirs. officials say it was done briefly two years ago during a dry spell but hasn't been used consistently as a water supply for about 20 years. some san rafael restaurants have

6:45. our breaking news from southern california as the sunrises you can see the extent of this fire burning in the angeles national forest in los angeles county. this started just a short time ago, a few hours ago and it has exploded into this. numerous fire trucks on scene. we were told this fire was burning away from houses but looks like they are setting up to protect a few structures

there anyway. no word on how this fire started but los angeles county fire is on it. we'll keep track of it four. developing news in the south bay. this morning we're expecting to learn new details about the arrest that san jose police have made in a string of arson cases that had neighbors on edge. abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo joins us live outside of one of the homes destroyed by flames. katie? >> reporter: it comes too late for the couple that lived in this house on east saint john's street but authorities have arrest ad suspected serial arson. they believe that person is responsible for not only burning this house but 12 other fires. the arrest comes one week after the first fire and investigators believe this man in this surveillance video is their guy. police were able to create a sketch of the suspect and distribute that to some 3,000 residents. we don't know if eatither of those things contributed to them finding their guy.
