conditions. >> we have new details in the bart shooting tragedy abut the officer involved in the shooting the. >> we have learned the name of the officer who shot the sergeant tom smith accidentally. the officer is michael maes would previously worked for a police department. this is maes in a promotional video hired by former bart chief and we talked with the former chief and asked him about maes and he said he is a dedicated officer. >> he and tom worked together for several years until the time i retired and continued working together. strong character and integrity. very good add what he did. >> he knew the fallen sergeant tom smith. he says that smith joined the

of the gun and who owns it. police are not saying if the parents were home. abc7 news will have a live report in the next half hour. >> breaking news, in arizona, go dozen people are in the hospital after a gray hour bus crashed west of phoenix. the bus was en route from los angeles to dallas and was scheduled to stop in phoenix. 41 passengers were on board and 23 people remain transported to area hospitals because of the injuries. authorities believe one passenger may have "freaked out" grabbed the steering wheel and punched the driver which led to the crash possibly. the bus crossed the median and stopped just before going into oncoming traffic. >> workers at san jose international airport will be trained to spot a crime that is easy to miss, human trafficking, biting and selling of women, boys and girls. our reporter is at the airport with more on that story. matt? >> the f.b.i. said that the bay

area is a hub for child sex trafficking and that is why, today, at show show workers are being trained to spot the potential criminals and their victims. we want did show you video from a sting at a hayward motel early this month. they found three females, a minor and who adults forced into prostitution. the workers in the traps industry are in the best place to identify human trafficking situations. the bay area antitrafficking coalition ambassador is hosting the event at san jose international airport and the organizers say the training for airport department employees and airline gate agents and flight attendants will teach the warning signals and aproblemmed methods of handling a suspected trafficking situation. the threat is real in the south bay just last week, five people were arrested in gilroy and charged with human trafficking. a warning from correct

conclude police this morning after three men robbed a kaiser employee at gunpoint in the parking garage on south main street. police say the suspect left the scene in the silver colored s.u.v. and possibly a toyota at 11:30 last note. two suspects are described as white men in their 20 and of average height and average build and both wearing dark-colored jackets. the victim did not get a description of the other suspect. >> a san francisco supervisors' committee is holding a hearing on the jail replacement project. the two city jails housing inmates need to be overhauled and the city is looking at a land to spend $632 million to rebuild the jails on site next door but some question whether a new building is needed when many of the jail beds are not being used and 70 percent to 80 percent of the jail population is this only awaiting trail. >> a state senate committee will discuss a new report that

with that story. amy? >> kristen, police are working on the investigations and we hope to learn more today about what happened. at this point, police say they are investigateing it as an accident. they got a call that someone had been shot last night. the victim was 11 years. it appears he accidentally shot himself. neighbors say he lives at the home with his parents and grandmother. investigators have not said who was home with him at the time. a small crowd gathered last night in the street and everyone expressed shock. >> i didn't know anything. he walked his dogs and it was his baby. he was real sweet. >> pretty quiet neighborhood. just moved here in september and never seen anything like this. >> neighbors say his parents and grandmother are all nurses and investigators have fought said
