for the first time state officials say they will not be able to supply any water to cities or farms anywhere in california. simply put, there is just not enough to go around. >> that means 25 million people who depend on water from northern california rivers and reservoirs are on their own this year. same story for a million acres of farmland in the central valley. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm carolyn johnson. in the bay area, two water districts will be hard hit including zone 7. that serves pleasanton, livermore, dublin and san ramon which gets almost all of its water from the state. >> abc7 news ama dates is live in dublin with the story. ama? >> dan, carolyn, no rain in dublin today, yet the grass here at emerald glen park is

nice and wet after being watered. this comes on a day when we learn that places like dublin won't be receiving any help from the state when it comes to water. emerald glen park gets a good soaking from the sprinklers as dublin residents are doing what they can to conserve water. >> we don't use as much water as we do for dish washing and things like that. we try to be sparing in that sense. >> we take shorter showers, and we don't do as much dishes or laundry as much anymore. >> but without any water coming from the state, there is worry for the future. >> i am not originally from california, so i don't know exactly what they are doing in terms of restricting water to farms is going to look like other than hurting farmers and the cost of groceries go up. >> fresh fruits and vegetables are being stacked, wrapped and ready for transport. the owner believes they will

get by, but by the skin of their teeth. >> this year we will see a little less product and a little smaller. the ones in jeopardy are mellon growers. they take a lot of water and they are in the southern part of the san juaquin. if we have another year like this though, it will be a tragedy. >> but he is op optimistic hoping for two or three good months ahead and growers are doing their due diligence by pruning and using their own well water. abc7 news. >> the state hasn't been this dry in generations. look at this graph. it shows statewide precipitation since 1970 for the water year which begins in october. take a look at 2014. that's on the far right side of your screen. you can see we are way in the red. less than five inches statewide since october 1st. this is of course the period that is supposed to be our rainy season. >> right. we need rain. sandhya patel is here with live doppler 7hd. sandhya, anything on the horizon? >> there is a chance of rain on the horizon. let's check

smie a driver who ran a stop sign lead police on a chase through the east bay and we have exclusive video of one of the suspects being arrested. the highway patrol says the driver sped off when officers tried pulling over the lexus near the oakland zoo. the driver lead officers to berkeley where the chase eventually came to an end near the bart station. a woman in the car was arrested. the male driver is still being sought. guns and drugs were found in the car. a strange mishap on san francisco bay had a dramatic impact on people deep under the surface riding bart through the trans bay tube. the ship suddenly lost power and drops anchor and some worried it may damage the underwater tunnel. the whole thing raised worrisome questions. as sergio explains, the answers are maury assuring. -- are more reassuring. >> just about everything at the bought m to of san francisco bay is charted. this is the trans bay tube. on the thought cal charts it is is -- on the nautical

>> and they made us wait. >> a bart spokesperson says they inspec held the tube and didn't spot any problems and restarted service. they have not released much more information in part because of security concerns. >> you would like to assure the public of what has been in the details. on the other happened -- hand people will take advantage of that. >> abc7 news. well, travelers flying in and out of sfo could face a summer of delays because of runway construction. the airport will close two of its four runways from may through september. workers will install collapsible pavement to stop planes from going off the tarmac. a spokesperson says they know closing the run -- runways will lead to delays, but doing it then will be the quickest way to get the job done. oakland police horse -- hosted a gun buy back program for kids. they collected dozens of toy

"sentinal" was there was no plan on how to distribute the money. the police union offered a plan to give half to each family. the families will have until february 21st to agree to this plan. smie you are seeing grand theft auto in progress. a crime that caught the nation a's attention. just 16 years old at the time and repelling into a san francisco car dealership and stealing celebrity chef guy fier ri's lamborghini. >> it god wade a life sentence with the possibility of parole. >> dan noyes is here with this report. >> it is one thing to hear reports of what he did and another to actually see it. i spent days going through every court exhibit, the crime scene photos and the surveillance videos. i made copies so i could show you the real story. max wade dropped out redwood high school before his freshman year, but he sure did his homework before pulling

off the crime. he worked the case with the marin county sheriff's office. >> i never had a crime like this so sophisticated by such a young person. >> among the hundreds of pieces of evidence i inspected the computer history showed as preparation for grand theft auto. just 16 years old he googled lamborghinis and how to jam lojac and lock picking. wade even posted a video on his youtube channel of him practicing less than two weeks before the car heist. >> here we go. >> he researched british motor cars in san francisco and mission impossible-style repelling. that's exactly what he did at the dealer early morning march 8th, 2011. these crime scene photos show how he tied off a rope on the rooftop garage. the i team catches the rope falling to the ground. wade scales down the side of the building and into a window. inside he takes his time.

spending almost 15 minutes walking through the dealership. >> he had a throat mic, or what appeared to be a throat mic for two-way radio. a couple times he appeared to talk on it. >> no one besides wade was arrested in the case. he cuts the lock with these bolt cutters. he drives the yellow lamborghini from the second floor down the ramp and gets out to roll up the door. back in the car, wade appears to fumble with the controls. he pulls out to the predawn darkness. they caught the lamborghini and so did the license plate readers. they came into town at 4:40 that morning with the chef's plates and it left tiburon at 6:13 with stolen plates. >> it is amazing. he is obviously very intelligent and some of this stuff was the work of a very sophisticated criminal. other things seemed like teenage fantasy.

>> in the year that followed the text messages show he told fake id's to high school students and sometimes at $500 each and he dabbled in dealing marijuana. he couldn't help but tell friends about the heist he pulled off, even sending selfies inside the car. he texted "man i love my life. boosting a lambo and picking up cute girls when you are 17". san francisco police got a tip that he had the car and interviewed him, but couldn't make a case. >> it was the gossip around the high school that he had taken credit for the crime and had the car. i don't think san francisco was able to contact anyone that had seen the car. >> wade sometimes drove the car and the owner got calls of sight ings. >> i had friends call me and say i just saw your car on the freeway. i said believe it or not there is more than one convertible local bore gee knee -- lamborghini in northern california. come to find out that he was dreefg it -- driving it, a brave kid.

>> wade was finally caught because of his fascination with a terra linda high school student. he texted a friend for advice. should i straight upstart sexting with her or be flirty with her? wade texted for days about getting her a fake id and he finally asked, so who are you spending valentine's with? she answered, my friend, landon. landon was wade's schoolmate. he couldn't take it and he planned his next crime for april , 2012, friday the 13th. he is in a motorcycle and all in black and watching as they walk out of this mill valley home and cleem into a pick up truck. >> they pull up next to him. the cyclist pulled out a pistol and started shooting at them. >> wade fired five shots and fumbled and dropped the gun allowing the couple to speed off. they stopped a few blocks away. she was cut by flying glass and shaken, but not serious

hurt. the two detectives were motorcyclen enthusiasts. they recognized the helmet wade wore. he was caught on camera filling up at a nearby gas sayings shortly before the shooting. >> it is a store brand that you can only buy from cycle gear either on the internet or the retail stores. we knew the closest retail store was in san francisco. >> the store found wade's receipt and a video of him buying the helmet and that blackout fit the night before the shooting. garrett couldn't find a current address for wade, but a week later came the break. wade contacted eva again about getting her a fake id and offered to pick her up in the lamborghini. a team of officers were waiting at the storage facility where he had a locker. when he spotted the officers, wade ran. >> one of the narcotic guys got close enough to kick him and kicked him in the upper chest and knocked him to the ground. >> he add gun on his waist band? >> he add loaded glock 45 with 50 rounds of ammunition in separate magazines.

>> wade struggled to reach his gun, but it was stuck under the t-shirt he wore under his pea coat. they opened the storage locker to this sight. the lamborghini squeezed inside with just inches to spare. the motorcycle used in the drive by, the helmet and guns and plans for other crimes. wade rented the storage unit under car mine columbo and he also had a fake id in that name. wade was planing a takeover robbery of a famous san francisco jewelry store. garrett has no doubt wade would have committed more crimes had he not been arrested. i'm posting more of the evidence i found. there is so much. it is at abc7news.com including a note from the jury to the judge. they were struggling with the attempted murder charge and not sure he intended to kill the couple. >> but could have firing the bullets. >> but it turns out he fired over their heads. he fired all shots into the ceiling of the truck. he could have come over the door, but he didn't.

>> wow, that's a wild story. thanks. let's turn our attention to the need for rain. >> meteorologist sandhya patel is here with a look at live doppler 7hd. >> carolyn and dan, serious problem. we don't have any rain on live doppler 7hd and when we typically do around this time of year. our drought continues the last 24 hours and the snowfall we have received actually has helped, but not enough. 15% of average and two days ago we were 10% of normal. at least a 5% increase. and here is a view from our emeryville camera. it is looking at nothing but clear skies. oakland is getting cool. san jose 48, 40 degrees in los gatos. great visibility and no fog. 43 in santa rosa and the dryer air is moving in. you can see how much the temperatures are plunging. napa is close to freezing. 34 degrees. 38 in fairfield, concord and livermore in the 40s. from the exploratorium camera, a view looking out toward san

francisco. a chance of rain on sundae. so if you are making plans, sunday is going to be the day you need the umbrellas. dry and milder next week or possibly need the umbrellas. here is a look at the pacific satellite picture. the high pressure is coming in and mostly sunny and bright for your saturday. as we head into sunday, this storm here will just graze us. you will see it is not taking a typical path of west to east. this system will drop in a few clouds tomorrow night. you will see high level clouds by sunday at 2:00 p.m. a little rain showing up near the coast and down toward monterey bay. that's where the best chance is going to be and the south bay by 4:00 p.m. on sunday. you will notice rain possibly showing up. rainfall amounts are not expected to be high. it is a quick-moving system, but at least we have a chance on sunday when you will be watching the super bowl or perhaps doing other activities if you are taking part in the lunar new year's celebrations. it is not going to be a washout. tomorrow morning very cold.

28 in napa and 30 in santa rosa and fairfield. could see patchy frost. make sure you bundle up in the morning. mid30s concord, livermore, 40 in san jose and 45 for you in san francisco. highs tomorrow, mid50s to low 60s, right around where you should be this time of year. and if you are watching the super bowl and you are in the comfort of your own home you may thought care about the weather there, but you know there are a lot of people that will be following the weather. there is a chance of showers earlier in the day when the broncos take on the seahawks. but by the time the game gets underway it is mostly cloudy, chilly and dropping to the upper 30s. a look at the accu-weather seven-day forecast, chance of rain and then back to a dry, milder pattern for the entire workweek next week. looking beyond friday, next sunday, a week from super bowl sunday, looks like a soaker. a pretty good storm is coming in and perhaps that is a sign of bigger storms to come, dan of bigger storms to come, dan and carolyy presents the week.
