9:00 a.m. with the family asleep. witnesses told me that two men kicked in the door, one of the armed men pointed his gun at kids while the other ransacked the apartment looking for money, cash, jewelry, and electronic equipment. less than an hour later police were able to locate and identify two men. items from the robbery were found their possession, and positive witness i.d. was given so police took both men into custody. this home invasion is the latest to hit oakland in a week. two miles away an 80-year-old woman was shot and robbed. police have not made an arrest or found or identified a suspect in that crime, and that gunman remains at large. there is conversation today, however, with community residents in the diamond district to hire private security to come into the area. that conversation right now is on hold. some are trying to move that forward. others have not decided what they want to die.
