bowl boulevard in times square. at the statue of liberty, the space needle flag signed by seahawks fans. and broncos super fans looking like pro players. and you'll remember the son who bought his mom tickets to the game, posting her reaction on youtube. >> no way! >> reporter: tonight, it all culminates right here in new jersey, football's biggest stage, more than 100 million viewers watching from homes around the world. 80,000 fans right here in the stadium, watching the two teams duke it out for the prized vince lombardi trophy. bruno mars will take the halftime stage with some of his own mentors, the red hot chili peppers. >> it's an honor to be sharing the stage with them. >> reporter: and so many of us will laugh and perhaps will shocked by some of the provocative commercials, costing advertisers millions. oh, those commercials. and a lot of people hosting those super bowl parties.

well, listen to this. spending for food, clothing and decorations expected to hit $12 billion. >> a big boost for the economy. and nice to see it's not as cold. thank you. the super bowl is a huge target for terrorists. and this year's event will be the most highly secured ever. pierre thomas has been on this beat for us all week. pierre, what does the security picture look like right now? >> no specific threat. this is a convergence of the year's biggest event and the nation's number one terror target, the new york region. no expense is being spared. from fighter jets to s.w.a.t. teams. >> and mass transit, as well, correct? >> the hours leading up will be critical. as the fans stream, tens of thousands of them will stream to the stadium, they will be focused on mass transit, subways, trains. >> and a big assignment for the new police chief in new york city. i spoke with him this week. >> spoke with him, he's concerned about the lone wolves that don't have a lot of

planning they need to do. but he says they are ready for anything. >> and about 4,000 police officers will be at hand. the most highly secured ever. >> it's an army. i actually went up with some of the fighter jets pilots this week. they are prepared to do what they need to do. they have people patrolling the waters. everything has been taken to the stadium, from the food to the seats have been checked. >> and you will be monitoring thank you. thank you. one man who is already having a tough super bowl is the governor of new jersey. chris christie was booed at an pregame event over night in times square. this as he's taking a hard and personal run at a former staffer who's accusing the governor of lying about the bridge-gate scandal that's engulfed the administration. reena ninan is on the story. good morning. >> he was once dubbed the eyes and ears for christie at the port authority, but david wildstein is wiping the mud of a his face slung by christie's office. >> good afternoon, everybody.

you already heard enough speeches of the same thing. >> reporter: this wasn't 9 super bowl weekend welcome new jersey governor chris christie wanted. now christie is on the attack. taking aim at former ally and transportation official david wildstein who alleges there's proof christie new about the gw bridge lane closure before it happened. the governor's office went after him, claiming a controversial tenure as mayor of livingston who made moves not productive. christie piled on the political power, quoting a mayor who highlighted wildstein's credibility issues. and even mud slings from the '70s, accusing him of deceptive behavior from his high school social studies teacher. the bottom line, he will do anything to save david wildstein.

but some wondering how the new jersey governor can be attacking so aggressively the man he trusted and put into a position of power. much like the game on this field, the psychological warfare can't be ignored. the attack ads. >> maybe the folks should tune into their tvs right now. >> reporter: some believe the damage is done. >> the governor really thought that this would be his crowning achievement. kick off the presidential campaign essentially at the super bowl. >> and the latest attack of wildstein claims that as a 16-year-old kid, he sued a school board election. and he was an anonymous blogger known as wally edge and i'm quoting, had a strange habit of registering web addresses for other people's names without telling them. dan and bianna, it's getting down right personal. >> really personal. thank you. let's talk more with george stephanopoulos. the host of abc's "this week." george, good morning. reena raised this question but how effective are the attacks likely to be given that he hired wildstein in the first place? >> it depends on what he has.

remember the letter from the lawyer on friday says that evidence exists that he wasn't telling the whole truth what about he knew about the traffic. doesn't necessarily say he has the evidence. it's all going to come down to what exactly wildstein's testimony is to all the investigations and whether he can prove that christie wasn't telling the truth. >> he was seen as a front-runner for the republican party in 2014. yesterday, we had abc news analyst matt dowd on the show and he said that him being the president of the united states is like amanda knox is going on vacation in italy. so pretty low. >> there's no chance she's going to vacation in italy. chris christie is not completely out of it yet. he is going to depend on next year. he's going to be tied up in the investigations. if he's not telling the truth, clearly he's done. but gets through the investigations, rebut the allegations, he's going to have time to get back into this. the republican field is a absolute muddle right now. three months ago, he was the

daley is spending a second day in intensive care after becoming sick in a business trip. a spokesman says that the former mayor complained of feeling disoriented on a flight home friday of a conference. he was chicago's mayor for a record 22 years. he walked off the plane and was taken by ambulance to northwestern memorial hospital. hospital officials have said only that the 71-year-old is under going tests. >> in indonesia, 16 people have been killed of a huge volcanic eruption in that country. saturday's eruption comes a day after they allowed thousands of evacuated villagers to return to the volcano slopes. and ecuador, there are reports of ash columns up to 32,000 feet, but no word of injuries in that country. and michigan, police are searching for a man who opened fire in an off-campus apartment complex near michigan state university, killing one student.

20-year-old student was killed, the other student shot was treated at a hospital and released. police say that incident appears to be a targeted attack. and a california homeowner fed up with pesky prowlers, taking matters into her own hands literally. after noticing intruders on her property, carly meyer had a low-tech anti-prowler device. you see it right there. that's a large rock taped to the end of a stick. here, she goes out with it. her home surveillance camera caught this man in her backyard in the chair and sprawling, she springs into action, fighting him off with a homemade weapon. she even managed to keep him inside the car until the police could get there. >> that looks like something out of "game of thrones". >> or the flintstones. >> don't mess with that woman. changing of the guard in the nba. david stern retired after serving for 30 years.

the nba tweeted a picture of stern and his successor, adam silver, the fifth commissioner of the nba. for now the official spaulding basketballs used during games will have silver's signature on it. no longer stern's. among the legacy, the draft lottery system, the strict drug policy, the player dress code and the always popular dunk contest at the all-star game. and the nfl hall of fame has seven new members. you see them there, among them, receiver andre reed, punter ray guy of my favorite teem, the oakland raiders, and the guy who was a pretty decent defensive end for the new york giants, you may recognize him, michael strahan. >> yeah. >> he was one of the all time great defensive linemen and still holds the single season sack record with 22 1/2 sacks. he is a key member of the giants team that upset the then-unbeaten new england patriots in 2008. one of the highlights of my life.

voluntarily left the area. >> she was having some difficulty adjusting back to life in the united states after being on the road. >> her husband, josh, explains that on january 17th, she said she was going for a walk near his parents' home outside san antonio, texas. she said she'd be gone an hour, but she never returned. josh claims she didn't bring a cell phone, but took her wallet with no more than $60 cash and credit cards that haven't been used. josh also now believes she took a backpack similar to this and a few energy bars. >> she is a budgeter. she can stretch money out. she could stretch this out. i hope that she's just taking a time-out or playing survivor woman or something like that. that's actually what keeps me going. >> while police called off the search because there's no evidence of foul play, josh and her family refuse to give up. >> there's no clues at all. and i just can't believe it.

troubled time as mayor of livingston, new jersey. in italy, a diver working on the costa concordia was killed preparing the wreck for removal. he apparently suffered a bad gash on his leg and was unable to get free from under water. in 2012, it slammed into a reef killing 32 passengers and crew members. >> and finally, statistics for teesd big game. check these out. the average viewer will consume 1200 calories watching the seahawks and the broncos. that takes about four hours. >> we can beat that. >> americans are expected in total to gobble up 1 billion -- that's billion with a b, chicken wings and 11.2 million pounds of potato chips and down 23 million gallons of beer. and monday, after super bowl, 6% of americans will make monday a sick call day. 3% of them will actually be sick. i'm feeling a little queasy already.

>> reporter: an explosive open letter written by woody allen's adopted daughter dylan farrow is reopening old wounds and allegations of abuse. in her own words, published on the "new york times," she details claims she was sexually abused by allen when she was 7 years old. she spoke out last november in an interview with "vanity fair." >> according to what dylan told me, she is truly terrified of woody allen to this day. she can't bear to even look at one of his pictures in a magazine. >> reporter: claims the award winning director has strongly denied. >> certainly i never, ever abused my daughter. there was no sexual abuse that ever took place. >> reporter: the accusations were investigated by police and family courts, but allen was never charged with a crime. >> a six-month exhaustive investigation, there was no evidence from their view to support that the 7-year-old had been sexually abused. >> reporter: dylan, now 28, felt

she should speak up for herself and support other alleged victims after watching hollywood honor allen with a lifetime achievement award at the golden globes. writing, it felt like a personal rebuke, the awards and accolades were to shut me up and go away. her brother roan criticized the golden globes, saying, i missed tribute, did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after "annie hall"? one tweet, is this a seriously a speech about how great woody allen is? pass. and one calling the golden globes tribute disgusting. and dylan doesn't stop there, in the letter she also takes issues with celebrities who are friends and worked with allen, including diane keaton and several members of the cast of "blue jasmine."
