>> good morning, i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, february continued. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with lisa argen. >> carolyn, we've picked up over a quarter inch and some of this is changing over to snow in lake county. also mt. hamilton, we have some thunderstorms embedded here who have moved through point reyes, as well. we've got about a half-inch to maybe .6-inch offshore that will continue to rotate in through parts of the bay area. there's the thunderstorm. here's lake county where it is in the 30s and it's changing

over to snow. 680 and 580, livermore and pleasanton looking at the wet weather right now. further south on the peninsula, you are getting it big time here from half moon bay, and down through the south bay. here is where we are looking at the highest rainfall totals throughout the morning and afternoon. mt. hamilton is picking up the snow. so in the next couple of hours, this is when we will see the most rain around the bay area. taking you through 11:00. then by noontime it's getting more scattered, especially in the north bay. if you want to take the bike ride for the hike, there probably is going to be a dry period throughout the day and maybe a few peaks of sun. the full forecast coming up. carolyn. >> looking forward to it. speaking of the rain, it's coming down especially in oakland. this is new video we got in less than an hour ago. this is near piedmont avenue. you can see the rain flowing down the street and there is rainwater coming out of the gutters. you can track the rain in the

bay area using live doppler 7hd on our abc7 weather app. the app also makes it easy to share photos how you are welcoming the rain. download information is add abc7news.com/apps. we have developing news out of napa where police are investigating the death of a four-year-old girl found dead in her bed. police are looking for the girl's mother, sarah kruger, and her boyfriend, ryan warner. they were last seen leaving their apartment yesterday morning. police say the girl was found around 1:00 yesterday afternoon at an apartment on wilkins avenue. they say there were signs of blunt force trauma, which miff been the cause of death. police say the mother and her boyfriend were last seen carrying luggage out of the apartment this morning. >> saw her leaving with duffel bags and the boyfriend and no child. there were three of them living there. it was only supposed to be just

her and her child living there. >> authorities say they don't own a car. he is known to frequent the areas of fir field, vallejo and san francisco and south san francisco. in breaking news overnight, police are investigating the shooting deaths of two people in oakland. it happened around 11:00 last night on 24th street near market. one of the victims was a teenager, another a man in his 30s. police say they were found on the sidewalk in front of a boys and girls club with multiple gunshot wounds. >> officers arrived on scene. ambulance and fire responded. they tried to attempt first aid, but unfortunately both victims succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced on scene. >> police say they do not have any leads. >> in developing news, police are investigating the shooting death of a man at a bar this morning that happened just after midnight at the green lantern

bar on san pablo avenue. they mound the man unresponsive in the parking lot. he was pronounced dead at the scene. he's described as a 30-year-old black man from richmond. he has not yet been identified. there have been no arrests. and we have a silver allot out of almeda county. 88-year-old man was lift seen just before 10:00 last night. she speaks only russian and suffers from a medical condition and may become disoriented. she's described as a white female, 5'3" with red hair and green eyes. police say she might be wearing is green jacket with a brown purse. new details this morning, investigators say in your opinions at san francisco general hospital and a sheriff's dep duty share the blame in the death of a woman found in a hospital stairwell last fall

accord to san francisco chronicle, federal investigators say nurses failed to act on a doctor's order that lynn spalding be watched around the clock. she vanished from her room on september 21st. they also concluded that a sheriffs deputy was told to search the hospital stairwells for spalding but he understood it as something he could do if he had free time. spalding's body was found 17 days later during a routine check. the oakland teenager accused of killing his sister during a fight over laundry will be in court tomorrow. 17-year-old justice toliver was shot to death inside an oakland apartment last month. police say her 14-year-old brother killed her because she bleached some of his clothing. he turned himself in last week. justice leaves behind a three-year-old daughter. oakland police have arrested two men in connection with a violent home robbery. officers say the two armed suspects kicked in the door at a house on 17th street at 9:00 yesterday morning. they pointed guns at an

18-month-old toddler, telling family members to keep the baby quiet. it was the second home invasion robbery in the same neighborhood in a week. >> i was really shocked to see there was a shooting in this neighborhood. it's been a very quiet neighborhood and i'm worried about the people who live here. if they can't be safe in the middle of day, it's really an outrage and we need to do something. >> thanks to witnesses, the suspects were taken into custody just a few blocks away. neighbors have talked about hiring private security, but no final decision has been made. turning now to california's drought, very little rain and little water in reserve. it is so bad some people are turning to the power of prayer to bring rain to california. abc7 news reporter sergio has the details. >> drying out reservoirs and parks, lake beds, images of the ongoing drought in california. but some by area residents say

they aren't sure everybody understands how bad the situation >> maybe they hear it on tv and they are like, oh, there's a shortage of water but they around getting the whole idea. it's trial not raining much and he aren't getting water period. >> the state announced it would stop water deliveries to local agencies if the drought continues and san francisco announced they would cut water use by 10%. >> we are asking residents, commercial, wholesale, municipal and industry to all chip in. this is a serious issue that we are facing. >> that means san francisco recreation and parks will be scaling back when they water the 220 parks and green spaces. >> i grew up with six kids. we had five minute showers. get in, get out really quick. >> he lives in oakland where the east bay district water board will be meeting in a little over a week to decide if they will adopt new water restrictions as well. usuf lives in los altos. he worries some. his neighbors around conserving

at all. >> i tried to speak to a few neighbors of mine and the sprinklers are on twice a day. i couldn't change their minds. >> this group is praying for rain. they were at the alameda county fair grounds. >> in cases of extreme drought, they taught the muslim community about 1400 years ago in arabia, they had droughts as well. so whenever that happened he had a special prayer he did. >> the prayer was organized by the san francisco chapter of the council on american islamic relations. abc7 news. >> this drought is considered one of the worst in california history. last year are there was less rain than in any year since california became a state. most of the state experienced record dry, including the bay area. only exceptions are parts of southern c.. businessed on data from tree rings, a cal scientist said the current rainfall season is on pace to be the driest since 1580.

the full accuweather forecast. seven people, including three children, are displaced this morning after a fire spread through an apartment complex in gilroy. investigators say that fire started in a kitchen last night. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has the details. >> the things that made these apartments home to seven people are destroyed. the fire started in unit number 11's kitchen around 6:30. it took just a few minutes to burn the two-bedroom apartment. >> once it got going and burning the contents of this apartment, it broke through the windows and then came up through and got into the windows of the upstirs. >> the two men in that apartment got out safely. they quickly caused other neighbors to help. >> i went outside and i seen the

the fire was already out by the time regina and her family got home and saw what was left. a relative hold me the kitchen stove has been malfunctioning for months. she still had the problem. >> until investigators piece together what happened, those living in the complex's other eight units had no choice but to stand by and wait. this man grabbed a few pairs of clothes in case the entire building would be off-limits, but it wasn't for just about everyone. apartment managers gave those in the burnt units a place stay in another complex. in gilroy, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> an explosion during a fire in sausalito last with night was

captured on video. flames caused a quarter million damage to a dive shop on liberty ship way which is right on the water. firefighters had a tough time fighting the flames because the only access was on a narrow dock. >> well, the biggest game of the year is just hours away. mr. bradley takes a look at the massive security surrounding the so-called mass transit super bowl. >> super bowl! dominate online chatter during the game on a sort of second screen. each company hoping to attract users commenting on big plays, the halftime show and, of course, the commercials. google is the clear winner this year in the super bowl advertising game. although the mountain view-based company has not disclosed their earnings for the premiere football event, almost every prereleased super bowl ad or teaser is posted to their youtube unit. ♪ >> that's the cute puppy love. that heart-tugging anheuser-busch spot has racked up more than 23 million viewers since wednesday. marketers have ditched their old super bowl element of surprise in hopes that releasing teasers that will capture more viewers on game day. >> knew this morning, it is official, there will be six more weeks of winter. that is according to

punxsutawney phil, the groundhog. his handlers say he saw his shadow early this morning. it's the first time phil made his appearance on the day of the nfl championship. organizers estimate about 20,000 came out to attend the event in western pennsylvania. we will take a forecast like that even if it's from a critter who has no -- or anything else. we need wintry weather. >> we are getting the winds. the rain is change to go snow at higher elevations and even some thunderstorms off the coast. live doppler 7hd right now. the east bay valleys, livermore you picked up a couple hundredth. say a look at this picture. the coastal hills looking at moderate rain. lick county. 8:00 it changed over to snow in mendocino county. we still have plenty of

moisture. looks like by the late afternoon we will get into some clearing. but a thunderstorm off of point reyes. you see the heavier showers here. right now highway 101 looking at the wet weather. more heavy rain, moderate run, has been moving into livermore. so you haven't seen that much. right now 580 and 680 it's picking up. right here along the peninsula, the san mateo coast, look at the half moon bay, the moderate rain down through sunnyvale. now it's beginning to fill in and over through mt. hamilton. yes, it's changing over. let's take a look. area of low pressure is offshore. and the counter clockwise flow is wishing up the moisture into the bay area. you see a few thunderstorms light up here. we will look for the progression of this to slide down the coast throughout the afternoon. and that will mean the rain is going to end first in the north bay. it will become more widely scattered. boy, is it chilly out there. have you noticed only in the 40s. we have winds 20 do 30 miles an hour. and it's making it feel much

cooler than that. raindrops on the lens here outside our studios where we've picked up .15 already. doesn't sound like a lot but considering out parched we were, it sounds good. snow lake county, mt. hamilton, and more rain headed our way by late wednesday into thursday. she are the gusty winds. up to 27 miles an hour in heighter elevations. it's very breezy out there, as well. the next couple of hours we are looking at more rain. the focus will be in the coastal hills, the south bay. but this is going to begin to become more widely scattered and we will see some of this snow accumulate up in lake county. by 3:00 marin and sonoma should be dry but we still have wet weather over into the east bay and the south bay. even the heavier rain will be in the south bay, the santa cruz mountains. but 8:00 tonight we have partly cloudy skies. it's going to be a chilly

arizona. the mail carrier in san francisco drove his final route in style. randy wore a tuxedo yesterday marking his last day in a 25 year career with the postal service. he said his load dropped significantly the past ten years because of e-mail and online shipping. he said the best thing about his job is the people he met along the route. a few months ago he set a clock to mark how many days he had until retirement. the clock now reads zero. up next on the abc7 sunday morning news, devastation in indonesia after a volcano erupts. the bay area group sending hopes and prayers to their loved ones overseas. plus bat kid saved san francisco and now the bay area is giving back to the foundation that made his wish come true. the amazing amount raised at a benefit last night.

this will continue throughout the morning hours. an area of low pressure possibly could bring us a few thunderstorms. we saw one by point reyes. you see the yellow here. that's the-worry rain offshore. you see highway 101 is wet. lightering from richmond and berkeley and oakland and further east. it's getting a little heavier toward the livermore valley and some of the hills. this is where we are getting the moderate rain. 680 and 580. but look at the peninsula. wood side is wet. redwood city, palo alto. south bay light rain. but mt. hamilton, the higher hee willgations, yes, it's snow. we will continue to see the rain, light to moderate. it will become more scattered throughout the afternoon. we already picked up a third of an inch here. i'll tell you how much more is on the which and a look at a soggier seven-day outlook when we return. carolyn. >> and oakland looking a little damp this morning from the rain. this is new video in this morning from the area of linda

and rows avenues new piedmont avenue. newspapers left out may be a little soggy this morning due to the rainwater but on the plus side we are finally seeing the much-needed rain. so many of us have been hoping for rain. we want to see your puddle picks. you can post them on our abc7 news facebook page or share them with us on twitter orins stu gram. the eruption of a volcano on the indonesian island of sumatra has killed at least 16 people. the search is on for other victims. the mountain erupted yesterday after rumbling for months. last week 30,000 people were evacuated. friday the governmental loud 1400 of them to return, saying the activity was slowing down. the bay area is home to thousands of native indonesians. last night a group gathered to pray for loved ones who live near the volcano.

thing. >> this wasn't a super bowl weekend welcome that governor kits chris wanted. now he's on the attack. taking aim at former ally and transportation official david wildsteen who alleges there is proof christie knew about the bridge lane closer earlier than he claims. in an e-mail to friends and family on find by abc news, the governor's office went after wildsteen claiming a controversial statement as mayor of littleton he made moves that were not productive. and some highlight what he industries at wildsteens credibility issues. and even mudslinging from the '70s, sag he was accused of deceptive behavior by his high school social studies teacher. the bottom line, david wildsteen will do and say anything to save david wildsteen. but some wonder why he could be attacking so aggressively the man he trusted and put into a position of power.

much like the game on this field, the psychological warfare can'ting ignored with new attack ads. >> maybe the folks in washington, d.c. should tune into their tvs right now. >> the damage is done. >> the governor thought this would be his crowning achievement, that he would kickoff his presidential campaign essentially at the super bowl. >> abc news, new york. in his state of the union address on tuesday, president obama called on congress to act, saying he would use executive orders, if need be, to advance his agenda. today on "this week" representative paul ryan said the president would be circumventing the constitution. ryan said it's not about how often president obama has used the power of executive orders compared to past pressed be, including reagan, bush and clinton, but rather the scope of the orders. >> it's the fact he's actually contradicting law, like in the healthcare case, or proposing new laws without going through congress. that's the issue. this is a big concern.

>> welcome back. thanks for joining us for the sunday morning news. this is a live look from our mt. tam cam. cloudy and rainy. as you know, we are experiencing the worst drought in modern california history. so this is definitely welcome. how long will the rainy weather system continue? lisa argen along in just about 30 seconds with a full accuweather forecast. >> apple's next operating system is expected to include an app that tracks your health. ios-8 is rumored to be released with the next generation of gadgets in the fall. apple's blog 9-to-5 mac will come with a app called "health book." it will track levels on your body from what you eat, to heart rate and even glucose levels in your blood. to make it all happen, apple will need to introduce hardware that connects to your body like a smart watch or more complicated medical devices.

>> welcome back. a live look from our emeryville cam. how long will the rain last? lisa has the answer coming up. >> nature lovers in the south bay are excited. an ongoing cleanup of los gatos creek in san jose and campbell has brought beavers back to the area. they have got the video to prove it. abc7 news reporter david louie has the story. >> steve hall was determined to make a difference. he's the founder of friends of los gatos creek. the creek is filled with debris, discarded drink cups and plastic containers, for example, all of which makes for a hostile environment for fish and wildlife. and now something has changed. >> you are seeing that the beavers have come through here and they have, you know, they

are eating the bark off of the trees because they don't, you know, they eat plant matter. the trees, the bark, that's their source, food source. >> here is the proof. this is night vision video of beavers foraging for food and dragging tree branches to help build a dam. the exact spot is being kept under wraps so humans don't disturb them. >> i think there will be more signs that nature wants to return if we give them a place to settle and the creek has been repaired. >> by repaired, he means cleanup. friends of the creek has mobilized about 500 volunteers to pull debris from the creek. the volume may surprise you. >> we pulled four tons of trash at park avenue. >> what about this site? >> about eight tons of trash that came out of this one site. >> it appears the cleanup that started nine months ago has. led to chinook salmon sightings going upstream.

rain but the bulk of the activity will be in the morning hours. we will see some bricks in the afternoon. look at san ramon, pleasanton and livermore. you have had light rain all morning long and the heavier rain has been here on the coast. you see a break, though, half moon bay. around 280 and highway 101. still wet weather into sunnyville and san jose. the higher elevation snow. that's been going on for a couple hours around hamilton. light rain through san jose, evergreen and even toward monterey. we picked up over a third of an inch in the santa cruz mountains. as i put this into motion you notice there is still plenty of moisture offshore. as the area of low pressure rotates to the south we will still see some showers around here throughout 1:00, 2:00 and then it will continue to sink south and they'll really dissipate. here's the light snow in the sierra nevada. definitely not a snowmaker. this is running pir level to the coastline. we are getting most of the

heavier rain on the coast. just in the 40s. temperatures will continue to stay very cool today with the breezy winds. in fact high temperatures hard pressed to make it out of the 40s in some spots. here's mt. tam where it's always pretty windy and gray when it's rainy. snow levels at 4,000 feet and more rain throughout the middle of the week. gusty winds up to 30 miles an hour. so you probably noticed that if you try to head out this morning. but there is the low. you will notice the counter clockwise circulation. it heads to the south. with it the wrap around wet weather throughout the morning hours. then becoming more scattered throughout the afternoon. here we go throughout noon, 1:00. you notice the low snow level lake county. getting a little lighter, the green. it will become more wadely scattered into 2:00, 3:00. some breaks here. possibility still exists of a thunderstorm. then by 4:00, 5:00, it moves out of the south bay and we will look for partly cloudy, chilly conditions through the evening tonight but rainfall amounts anywhere from a couple

in florida some golfers are getting up-close and personal with an alligator. a golf ball somehow ended up on top of a gator's head on the ninth hole at the inglewood golf course. nobody knows exactly how it happened. a viewer says a golfer picked up a ball, tossed it toward the gator hoping to scare it away. she said the ball bounced on the ground and then up on to the alligator's neck. if someone hit the ball and it landed on the gator's head, club
