police. it is described only as a dark-colored sedan or s.u.v. >> lots of debris remains on the scene from the accident, most of it has been cleaned. the victim was pulling a recycling bin when he was struck. the victim is in critical condition. police are checking to see if surveillance video cap toured the -- captured the accident on tape. >> breaking news from alameda where a firefighter suffered minor injuries battling an apartment fire this morning. the blaze broke out after 4:00 at a two-story complex on santa clara avenue. residents were evacuated and the fire has been contained. the firefighter was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. >> in the east bay, hayward police say a woman would was shot by officers at an apartment complex has died from the wounds

the police shooting happened in hayward at 7:00. police were called to the summerwood programs to conduct a welfare check on a 62-year-old woman who lived there. she pulled a handgun and refused orders to put it down. an officer fired and she was hit and pronounced dead at the hospital. the officer who fired shot has been with the department a year. amy hollyfield is at the apartment complex and will bring us an update on the investigation in the next half hour. >> new information on the sniper attack on the power station with a government regulators saying it was domestic terrorism. katie marzullo is in the newsroom with that story. >> a professional job and possibly a rehearsal for something bigger, a serious finding from the man who was the chairman of the federal energy regulatory commission at at the

not believe this was a terror attack but reviews evidence. east palo alto will not be outsourcing police services. the city council voted 4-1 against the proposal. the idea came as east palo alto tries to close a $1 million shortfall. 100 people attended the meeting mostly against outsourcing. an after school counselor accused of selling marijuana to elementary school students is expected to be in court. the 20-year-old diaz was arrested at willow glen elementary school. he was a dutior with the "think together" program. a spokesman said he passed two federal background checks before being brought on. he faces two charges of selling marijuana to a minor. >> man tried to run over an

officer after officers chased a stolen car yesterday afternoon. the drive got into a crash on 3rd but officers approached he drove the car at them the an officer opened fire but he sped off. police found the stolen vehicle abandoned. officers searched several buildings with guns drawn but did not find the subject. the snowy conditions people are waking up to on the east coast this morning. this is westchester, new york, outside of new york city, at 5:00 a.m. as the commute was getting underway and you can see how much snow fell in that area with quite a bit coming down the second storm to hit the east coast this week and another expected this weekend. >> deadly pile up on the pennsylvania turnpike.

outside right now at san jose the drive on 81 is moving along better than 101 which is packed but 87 is accident free and at top speeds. developing news from hayward where a 62-year-old woman died after being shot by police. officers say she threatened them with a gun. amy hollyfield is near the scene with the the details. hayward police say she refused to drop the gun when they told her to. we spoke with an eye witness who backs up that account. police say the 62-year-old woman called 9-1-1 several times so they stopped by to check on her. this is the summerwood apartments on foothill boulevard. she had a gun and she would not drop it. she held it in a way that made officers feel threatened. a woman walking her dog tells us she saw the whole thing.
