few heavier cells. emeryville, berkeley, highway 24. you can see some moderate downpours, as well as through oakland and 580. back through san francisco it's been kind of intermittent south of 280 from daly city to south city. san francisco has picked up .6-inch rain. burlingame light rain, san mateo. a little bit of a break in dublin. this is what i'm talking about. some of you in the livermore valley not looking at a whole lot of activity. your activity won't pick up until tomorrow. most of the activity throughout the day today will be on and off waves of light to moderate waves. we've picked up 5 inches near woodacre. we are still going to look at more. i'll still you how much more and time it out four coming up. katie. >> thank you, lisa. the storm did move in last night and the rain caused plenty

of problems for drivers, but that's not all. we have more from the north bay. >> reporter: moments after a crash, one driver got oust his car and looked to be on his phone. possibly culling for help. chp said standing water on the freeing was part of the water here. fire crews also respond but no serious injuries reported. at rush-hour traffic came to a soggy crowd. throughout the night rain came down in buckets and the rain rattled some residents. >> it's raining sideways, raining everything, raining up and down. it is finally here but it is here. >> her car won't start in the rain so she's stranded at a shopping center. just across the street at fire station 2. pete filled 8 sandbags to fix a flooding problem. >> the place we moved in just moved in there last year and we haven't had a rain like this. it's flooding back into the

basement, we followed him back to the nonprofit with an assembly line of students worked to scoop water out of the basement. they managed to get most of the water out and placed sandbags to keep any more from getting in. >> we will probably have to tarp the stairs that go down from the outside to the basement. >> the first big rain of the season means the first big water problems for people to deal with. abc7 news. the wet weather is blamed for bringing down a large tree around 10:30 last night. it took down powerlines as well. pg&e had to come out. the road was closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the roadway. and the storms sent this tree branch crashing down yesterday afternoon. the large branch fell on a parked pickup truck and blocked the sidewalk. it happened on eighth atsteiner street. luckily no one was hurt. also in the east bay, in

road and threatened to arrest her if she didn't cooperate with him. a former teacher has been arrested on child pornography charges in martinez. police say they found images of child pornography in his home. he previously worked as a teacher in the bay area but police did not say where. >> oakland police have identified a 77-year-old woman who was found dead yesterday in an apparent home invasion. police discovered susan's body while doing a welfare check yesterday at the home. they found signs of forted entry at the home and said fong was dead inside but had no signs of physical injury. there was also a man at the house but he was not hurt. police are talking to him to figure out what happened. they have not made in arrests and police are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information leading to an arrest in the case. what started as a plan to celebrate the lone 49er fan

fort ross, you see the yellow, heavier rain, napa, sonoma, american canyon also getting the heavy rain. we go a little further south you can see some lighter patches down along the peninsula. but there is moderate rain offshore. san francisco, you continue with your light to moderate rain. down to redwood city, fremont, we have the rain shadow effect. we are getting the lack from the coastal hills. there is rain in the east bay and really it's not materializing. it's not until we get to the colder air coming in tomorrow we will see heavy rain for you here in the livermore valley you see 580 wet weather. 680, out toward tracy, wet weather, as well. chains are required but it's a rain event now in sierra nevada. temperatures in the upper 30s for the tahoe valley airport and blue canyon with gusty winds. the snow level rises to around 8,000 feet and then we will be

looking at temperatures in the 30s there to near 40 degrees. so some small flooding, mudslides and wind damage. we aren't too worried about the rivers. nine inches is what we are expecting in the highest elevations of the north bay. we already picked up over 5 inches in some spots. temperatures in the 50s. 57 redwood city. looking at low 50s and sfo count on delays stacking up there. 54 concord. here's a look from our emeryville camera. looking wet everywhere. the forecast, riney and breezy today, a let-up tonight and another slug of moisture comes our with a tomorrow for another band of heavier rain. you see the moisture coming in from the tropics and that will bray the rain on and off all weekend long, focused in the north bay. we are looking at the rain totals really in the north bay approaching two inches around

napa. this is through this morning. over a third in oakland. half-inch in san francisco with an inch and a quarter. notice redwood city toward mountain view. just about a ten. of an inch of rain. 11:00, havering north bay, east bay. and as we go through the later afternoon a bit of a break. tonight look at that 11:00. here's the break. by tomorrow morning, about this time tomorrow into midmorning, another wave of moderate to heavy rain. but by sunday night we are looking at partly cloudy skies and rainfall estimates right on through sunday, continue to be highest with up to 8 inches in the north bay, inch and a half to three inches the lower elevations, santa cruz mountain three inches but some of you won't see that much in the valleys. we are looking at the winter storm warnings for 4:00 and the snow levels over 8,000 feet. upper 50s to near 60. a mild storm. on and off rain today. focus in the north bay. another band of heavier rain

the cost to build a rail line between los angeles and san francisco dropped slightly, 1%. latest estimate is now at $67.6 billion. by comparison, the twelve business plan was $68.4 billion. the cost is still more than double what was originally predicted in 2008 when voters approved aborne mesh tower partially fund the project. city college of san francisco will now have to file a formal appeal after commission's decision to revoke its accreditation. the move comes after a regional commission yesterday rejected the school's request to have the decision reviewed. ccsf has been under threat of losing their accreditation after the commission found issues with the schools finance and govern answer structure. but a judge ruled last month the accrediting commission cannot terminate them while current lawsuits are still in the courts. happening today, california great america is looking for seasonal workers. the park will hold a job fair

all things subject to change in this weather, of course. february is national children's dental health month. the school of den tis industry will give free checkups to children. no appointment or insurance is required for today's give kids a smile day. there will be free exams and fluoride treatments as well as free tooth brushes, toothpaste and floss. it runs at the school of dentist industry. a fun raising campaign kicks off today in silicon valley to put more salad better in school. it's estimated only 166 out of 10,000 schools in the region have them. abc7 news david louie visits the story where kids are making healthy eating choices, even if they are picky eaters. >> right in the middle is a salad bar at this elementary school. it may be sized for kids but the selection of fruits and vegetables are as varied as you

has been scant throughout the early part of the morning. livermore with a little bit of light rain here, 580. in the sierra nevada winter storm warning through 4:00 but it is raining at lick level. temperatures in the upper 30s and the snow level going above 8,000 feet. lake tahoe right now still looking at higher elevation snow. but back home the urban flooding through 7:45 in our north bay valleys. the southern marism n area with the possibility of wind damage, as well. the exploratorium come raw, it is messy with temperatures in the 50s. the numbers will actually rise a couple degrees even with the cloud cover and the rainy conditions. sfo, as katie mentioned, remarkfully no delays. 56 in liver more. our forecast highlights calling for the rainy and windy weather today. everybody will see a bit of a letup tonight. in the north bay if you are wondering when this is going to let up, probably by later evening hours through the
