the storm has arrived. the bay area is getting its first glimpse of a big weekend soaker. thank you for joining us, i'm ama daetz. our walnut creek camera has a live look now at walnut creek. the showers returned there just a few minutes ago. to rain right now in san jose. this is a live shot from the san jose bureau camera. but you can see the storm clouds are gathering. one particularly wet spot in the bay area is mt. tamalpais. you can see the showers from our camera. almost ten inches of rain have

fallen here since the storm began, and it is still coming town. the steep slopes force out the moisture from passing storms and fog. we do have live team storm watch coverage with a look at some of the hardest hit areas. first, the forecast with meteorologist leigh glaser and live doppler 7hd. >> hi there, everyone. you are exactly right. it has really been more to the golden gate bridge where this moisture band -- we call it training. the heaviest rain today has been north of the golden gate bridge. in fact we'll take you in closer. cloverdale has been reporting some very moderate rain the past two or three hours. you can see the rain is coming down. guise are road there, but we had some flood senior still do near rohnert park, and petaluma. they had some low-lying flooding

there today. they're getting a little of a break. you can see the red strip right there. >> sonoma county. that's where the flash-flood warning is up until 7:30 the cities -- i want to take you down south of san jose. not a lot of moisture reaching there. start to go pick up a little bit. the reason why -- you can see it on the water vapor imagery -- this train goes all the way out towards the hawaiian islands and you can see most of it has stayed well to the north of the golden gate bridge. the next plume off the coast, more heavy rain for our sunday. we'll check out storm totals in a bit. >> as she just showed us the north bay is getting the brunt of the storm system. nick smith its live on rohnert park where parts of the road have been washed out. reporter: we have been in it all

day. this is a mess and also a major thoroughfare to route 116. parts of the road are wiped out behind me. looks like it's sinking into a minilake. this is part of the flash-flood warning for sonoma county. >> this is the sound that blared from my smartphone, sent from the national weather service alerting everybody in the area of a flash-flood warning. conditions on highway 101 north and south war wet, rainy, and challenging mess for drivers, and it hasn't taken a break and heaviest totals for north bay. >> we have measured four inches of rain. >> take a look at the damage the rain left behind on this road. half of the street gone. crossroad crews arrived to see the two-lane highway reduced to one. >> down'll there was one vehicle inundated by the rockslide from

fort ross road. >> take a look. you can make out the roof of a white pickup truck that got swept away in the slide and remains buried in the thick heavy mud and rock, and the things could get worse. if the around continues officials concerned there won't be access. north bay could see as much as seven inches of rain, forcing brian to leave nothing to chance. he is trying to protect what he can. >> a little rain, a little work, but it's going to benefit our stuff in the house because it's not going to get wet and ruined. reporter: there's more rain expected to fall over the weekend than n sonoma ma county than the past seven months. >> efforts underway across the bay area to prevent flooding. here on college avenue in berkeley, street crews are cleaning storm drains with a giant snake and shoveling

debris. moreflood prevention measures in oakland. the public works agency is making sandbags available for residentss and businesses. >> for some areas street flooding is unavoidable and one hard hit city is sonoma. sergio quintana is there. reporter: this is an area that does tend to wash out when the storms come. it's later on because we have not been having the big rainstorm this entire season. but let me show you right here, at route 12 and highway 121. this whole speaker section was washed out. you can see there are few people who are kind of walking along, trying to see if they can actually walk through. we have seen a couple people in this area come by and check to see if they can actually drive through, which is not a good idea when these roads are shut down. let me show you right over there. that's the reason why this whole intersection is shut off.

there's a creek that runs along here and that's where the water is breaking through. this situation has been like is in for the last few hours. this flooding is expected to pose a problem for residents well into the night. the stretch of highway 121 will remain closed at least through 11:00. but flooding was not much of a problem in other parts of the bay area. instead there were other unrelated issues. this tree at the mill valley golf course, split three ways, and one of the biggest parts fell across glen drive. pg&e crews deenergized the power line so fewer cries could cut it apart. >> this neighborhood is one way in, one way out so it was a priority to have pg&e remove the energized power line. >> lost our power. but we can drive out now. >> on highway 101, a boulder burst through the retaining fence and landed on the roadway near the sir francis drake exit.

a lot of these minor issues are what these emergency crews have to deal with, and as i mentioned, this can liaos to be a problem that's going to be near sonoma county at least until 11:00 p.m. tonight so people should start looking for diversions to get around here. reporting live, abc7 news. >> the storm is keeping pg&e crews busy. the utility is reporting power outages across the bay area. strong winds and rain knocked out power to about 1500 people on the peninsula. 1700 customers in the north bay. 114 in san francisco, and 49 in the south bay. the east bay reports 402 outages. power has been restored for some customers and crews continue to work on getting the power back on for others. here is a live look now from our sfo camera. our soaking is causing massive delays at san francisco international. it's operating under a delay program for the entire day. most delays range between 30 and

90 minutes but some flights are delayed by two hours. 59 flights have been cancelled at sfo, while two flights to portland were cancelled out of san jose. no delays or cancellations out of oakland. lake tahoe is under a flood watch today. you're looking live at conditions at heavenly mountain resort courtesy of lake tahoe tv. tahoe get something heavy rain. up to two feet of snow is expected at higher elevations, near 5700 to 8,000 feet. >> tahoe ski resorts are reporting more than a foot of snow. this time lapse video shows a few inches of snow accumulating overnight, friday, into this afternoon. in the sierra, drivers are dealing with heavy rain and snow. caltrans cameras show the scene on i-80. chains are required from placer county to the donner lake interchange, and you can follow

patrol car hard enough to crack the grille and deploy air bags. officers were not hurt. the suspects who are suspected of shooting one in the arm yesterday, hopped on to southbound 101 with police in pursuit. speeds reached up to 95 miles-per-hour. the suspects crashed their car in mountain view and were arrested after a short search. new details now about the b.a.r.t. police seth killed last month. he reportedly had asked his superiors to assign the s.w.a.t. team to high-risk searches. sergeant tom smith was shot and killed by a fellow b.a.r.t. officer during a search of a dublin apartment. smith requested help from the s.w.a.t. team on several occasions but was always turned down. there's no indication smith made such a request before the fatal search. members of the s.w.a.t. team receive specialized training on making high risk entries into build little. help is on the way to california's unemployed.

moderate rain. we'll talk you down towards street level. first street on napa seeing some moderate rain, that's moved over toward the vacaville area. also now in the east bay, danville, san ramon, the boulevards there to the south and of san ramon, seeing a little moisture there, and we don't want to forget folks down south of san jose. you haven't had a lot of moisture today but near the summit there we are starting to pick up a little moisture, but here's a look at some preliminary -- i stress preliminary -- rainfall totals. over eight inches mt. tamalpais. close to an inch in half moon bay, and lesser amount the further east and south you go because of the training of the moisture has been primarily in the north bay. taking you back to this water vapor alert. it el straights it fabulously.

you can see the moisture plume off the coast, all of that will drive in here, mainly in the north bay, tomorrow. by tomorrow afternoon it will start to slide south. so, golden gate bridge southward, toward san jose and monterey bay, should see moderate rain by tomorrow afternoon. the storm risk is primarily high area, north bay, street flooding will be moderate. mud, rockslides, wind damage slight. and river flooding will be quite low. and up to four inches additional inches in some of the wettest spots, which definitely would be north of the golden gate bridge. san francisco, all locations in the upper 50s to near 60. we have had numerous delays at sfo. probably have the same thing tomorrow as reduced visibility will be with us. rain and breezy overnight. a little bit of a break between

7:00 and 10:00 and then picks up between after midnight with heavy rain possible on sunday, and then even more wet days next week. so here's a look. the warmer sector moving through, there's the plume off the coast and that's going to bring us the periods of rain tomorrow definitely. in fact you can see throughout the day tomorrow, you can see by 11:00 a.m. on sunday, that moisture feeding through much of the bay area, and starting to move in toward the golden gate bridge. how much more? north bay mountainsings three to four additional inches, and then lower elevations, one to two, maybe two to four in santa cruz mountains, and blue canyon right now, 52 degrees and a heavy rain. donner summit was also reported a little heavy rain in the last hour. storm warning up in the sierra. one to two feet above 7,000 feet. snow levels up to 8,000 feet tonight. lower tomorrow. rain overnight tonight. could be heavy at times especially in the north bay.
